Wither Canada

David Solway has written a biting but truthful indictment of Canada in 2022:

It is very hard to maintain one’s composure when speaking to ordinary Canadians about the disaster in the making that is Canada today. I have engaged personally and via email over the last two years with literally hundreds of my fellow countrymen from all walks of life on the subjects of the national debt, the deficit, the sunsetting of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the draconian and illegal Covid and vaccine mandates and the turbo maladies that flow from them, the various repressive bills sieving through Parliament, the vicious and lying government and media campaign against the Trucker Freedom Convoy, and the unconscionable behavior of the most vindictive, incompetent and unpatriotic prime minister in the history of Confederation.

With precious few exceptions—“precious” is a key word here—I have come away in a state of profound depression. Some readers of my writings as well as everyday interlocutors have accused me of pessimism, which may be true. I recall a remark of Leonard Cohen’s: “A pessimist is somebody who is waiting for the rain. Me, I’m already wet.” Sometimes I feel completely drenched.

  1. The real tragedy isn’t the injustice and tyranny happening today, but the belief that in the past it was not the same. The petty tyrants and zealots have always been with us, and always will be. The only way to guard against them is to support individual liberty, by continually limiting and removing centralized power, and leaving people alone to live their lives.

    1. Agree. Political corruption has always been with us.
But we were not aware of it, and had no available documentation and record being made public.
We have that now in spades.
There is no excuse for voter apathy. The info we have should cause revulsion and revolts.
Solway has completely described the passive, brainwashed, distracted country that we (presently) live in.
It can be depressing. We are left to create our own individual liberty.
My Hope is not of this world.

  2. We did this last year. 5 days before the travel mandates hit. Sold everything we owned and left for Central America. The changes in the last year have only confirmed we made the right choice.
Someone needs to be left when it all falls apart, to rebuild from. We wanted to have something left for our kids to flee to, when that time comes for them.

    1. We moved to Mexico in 2020 for similar reasons and I’m very glad we did. I don’t know if the same type of changes will ever happen here but it will be more difficult to implement and, therefore, take some time. Our neighbor, also a Canadian, says people will eventually wake up and “throw the bastards out” (or worse). I think it would be nice if that were the case, but I don’t see much evidence that it is. Over my lifetime, an apparently conservative government has been elected about once in a generation and, even then, I’ve usually been subsequently disappointed with the lack of results. I have some small ray of hope for the new Premier in Alberta but the ‘usual suspects’ are already out in force against her. We are witnessing the end of the Age of Enlightenment and revolution or slavery are rapidly becoming the only two options. When I think back to how things seemed even three short years ago, I’m absolutely astounded at the speed of the decline.

    2. Ginger, you’re still living in Central America today? If you ever wanted to write a piece contrasting life there with that back home, I think that would be very interesting!

  3. Pretty sad. A typical Canadian will bend over without question after a vague promise of possible free stuff.

    1. What they don’t realize is that in truth nothing is free. They are paying for all this free stuff, firstly in taxes and secondly in the loss of freedom.

    2. Mike T, been saying that for a very long time now. With a few exceptions my respect for my fellow citizens no longer exists.

  4. David Solway has accurately pinpointed the root cause of Canada’s malaise: a chronic, terminal ignorance, fueled by generations of comfort and negligence, that has killed curiosity and persecuted true initiative.

  5. I recall fellow Canadians being amazed watching Venusuala vote themselves out of democracy, thinking their lives would improve. Now, Canadians are doing it themselves with the same attitude. Talk about short memories and tunnel vision…

      1. Walter

I’m of the opinion said machines have been in use for at least a decade if not more. the Turd spent a fair bit of tin in the company of such upfront honest folks like Geroge Soros and Barack Obama….I’m pretty sure he learned much and this was all prior to 2015.

I am near 100% convinced that the recent Municipal election in Calgary held here a year ago was TOTALLY rigged. Some unknown Marxist Beotch became mayor…a woman most had never heard of….and in near hours after winning and not even acclaimed, Declares a “Climate Emergency”

Voting machines are like any other digital device, prone to attack & use by corrupt wanna be Politicians

Have a good look at the mayors of our major cities – ALL without exception, LEFTIST bought n paid for trash….they along with a few if not most of the premiers as well.

As an Albertan I truly hope and trust Danielle Smith Will outlaw the use of digital voting machines.

I vote per person – paper ballet – Proper ID & Cdn citizenship PROOF required.
Something I am going to tell her on her Govt E-mail. TONIGHT..!!

I have zero trust in the Commie Beotch Notely – good buddy of George Soros.

    1. c c, I have said this a thousand times if I said it once, 65% of Canadians are socialists and believe government should control their lives. There are a few posters who think it is now about 85%, they may be right. Nothing will change for people who hate freedom. I am too old to run.

    1. Canada has been dead for a long time. The death started in 1963 when it voted for communism.

      1. You nailed it. The rot truly started with Pearson, only to be accelerated by Trudeau the First.

        1. The disaster began in 1840 when Canada was formed by uniting Upper and Lower.

They doubled down on their corrupt centralizing power mania in 1867 by taking over Maritime colonies and lands controlled by the Hudson’s Bay Company.

          Things only got worse, naturally.

  6. This is what I was saying the other day when somebody asked what Canadians had done to deserve the Shiny Pony and his flying circus.

They’re stupid, and they begged for this. David Solway, Kate, me, everybody with a brain, has been SCREAMING about the state of Canada since the late 1980s. Screaming. Every. Day.

So here we are. An entire PLAGUE came, and still nothing. Crickets.

    Oh well.

    1. With you on that Phantom, been yelling about it for decades, in fact since Pearson. This is why I keep using the word stupid because you have to be very stupid to not want freedom.

      1. Every. Single. Stupid son of a husky I speak to about any of this, since the frigging 1990s, scoffs and says “that could never happen here”. Right in the middle of it happening, they’re calling me a liar and saying it isn’t happening.

I have to tell you, I haven’t even posted anything about the new gun control idiocracy on my blog. I used to go hard on that stuff, I never let a day go by without banging the drum. But after 2020/21 and watching the whole f-ing country go full-Karen, I’m done.

We just finished putting up with:

        -Forced experimental medications
        -closed borders
        -martial law
        -corrupted banking sector
        -wildly increased fuel taxes
-collapsing medical services (oh yeah they are)
        -and out-of-control inflation.

What am I hearing from Joe Average out there? NOTHING! It isn’t that they’re not bothered by it, it is that they haven’t noticed. They’re not even paying attention.

If Canadians can kind of slide past the last two years and still think everything is okay, and they are, then they will not notice anything short of a famine-and-war event happening directly to them. Maybe not even that would be sufficient.

        1. Didn’t they also disarm the population? Seems you’re about twenty minutes away from having hunting outlawed, as well.

  7. This is what has happened to the entire west…….
    Catching Wild Pigs
WELL, AND TRULY SAID…THEY KEEP NIBBLING AWAY UNTIL THEY
    HAVE EATEN THE WHOLE COUNTRY…
Catching Wild Pigs Karl Marx once said, “Remove one freedom per
generation, and soon you will have no freedoms and no one will have
noticed.” There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had
some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the
lab, the professor noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept
rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor
asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a
bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in
his native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s government
and install a new communist regime.
Then, the student looked at the professor and asked a strange question,
“Do you know how to catch wild pigs?”
The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch
line. The young man said that it was no joke. “You catch wild pigs by
finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The
pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free food. When they
are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place
where they are used to coming. At first they are scared, but when they get
used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another
side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again.
You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the
last side. The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. You then slam the gate onthem and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom.
They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught.
Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that
they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they
accept their captivity.” The young man then told the professor that is
exactly what he sees happening in America & Canada. The government keeps
pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn
out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for
unearned income, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies,
payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare entitlements, medicine, drugs,
etc., while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a
time. One should always remember two truths: 1 There is no such thing as
a free lunch, and 2 You can never hire someone to provide a service for
you cheaper than you can do it yourself. If you see that all of this
wonderful government “help” is a problem confronting the future of
democracy in America & Canada, you might want to share this with your
friends. If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life,
then you will probably not share this. BUT, God help us all when the gate
    slams shut. Think about this:
“Most of the problems we face as a country today are there because the people who work for a living are now outnumbered by those who vote for a living.”

  8. Easy to despair, for sure, but not a very useful approach (unless one has given up).
I would like focus more on how to change the direction of society to something better, with a positive and action oriented attitude. Kinda like Reagan in 1980.
    Comments?

    1. “I would like focus more on how to change the direction of society to something better, with a positive and action oriented attitude.”

Tell us what your plans are.

      1. Some ideas:
        – Be active in local politics (municipal elections, school board elections)
        – Support (and/or get directly involved in) provincial & federal political parties (and candidates)
        – Be vocal in media and public meetings, with well founded and well reasoned arguments
        – Discuss with your family, friends & neighbors, and do not be afraid to state “unpopular” opinions
        – …

        What do you propose?

        1. Well John, we (Ontario Landowners Association) tried all of that from 2003 till 2010 or so. It was too no avail.

To reiterate a comment I made a few days ago, when you can’t more than a pathetic minority of “Conservative” farmers interested in property rights, what hope do you have with the huge urban portion of the electorate that overwhelmingly chooses to have its arse wiped with money.

          1. The whole “Let’s vote harder!” thing doesn’t work.

Stating unpopular opinions just gives the impression that you’re out of step and othered.

The media is what it is and it doesn’t change, only gets worse. (Alt-media like SDA and the like is a refuge for people like us, but only for people like us)

The municipal angle is a bit more legit. School boards and town councilors are more accessible.

        2. Been doing that for years.
Giving up, but you do you.
We are more focused now on connecting with like minded individuals, keep a network going, barter, survive, fellowship.
          Hunkering down.
          Maranatha.

        3. “What do you propose?”

Once upon a time I thought a plague would be sufficient.

Do you know how many medical protective equipment production lines have been started here in Canada since 2020? None.

So now I think it will take the complete collapse of the food and fuel supply chain, plus a war. A famine alone will not be sufficient to move them, Canada will have to be invaded.

When starving people are being shot in the streets by foreign soldiers, then and only then will most of Canada be awake and paying attention.

      2. Apropos Reagan:
“I know in my heart that man is good, that what is right will always eventually triumph, and there is purpose and worth to each and every life.”

        1. I know in my heart that evil resides in most men and most have to work real hard to overcome that natural tendency.

          1. you are a realist, and have chosen to live in reality. it is very lonely and frustrating being such a person. 99% of the general population lives in fantasy, whether by choice or nature.

        1. True, but only to the degree that the individual believes.
Canada IS a constitutional CON-federation, 2 sovereign co-equal levels of government.
The mistake most of us have made to to not fully appreciate how much constitutional/legal power sits, largely dormant at present, within the provinces.
A provincial MLA is way easier to elect & influence than a federal MP.
          Municipal politicians same same.
Too much top down, Centralization had occurred… in all levels, areas of our society but most especially at the Federal level.
Decentralization is critical & can be done faster than most think.
          Clear thinking & resolve needed.
The Saskatchewan First Act & Alberta’s Sovereignty Act are just 2 recent examples.
To paraphrase a big bank’s ad… we’re stronger than we think.

    2. Citizen despair is critical.
The current situ is not a done deal, unless we accept & make it so.
Every few generations have to rediscover certain truths about self government, human nature, etc .
Giving up is quite acceptable to Trudeau, Xi, Biden et al.

  9. ….”They draw a blank when I mention the Charter or the Nuremberg Code, let alone Klaus Schwab, the World Economic Forum, and the Great Reset. “….

This pretty much describes the population of the country.
As you may have possibly experienced, the NPC’s are insisting on never, but never hear the other side of the story, an argument that may change their perception. There is certain fear in them that won’t allow openness, exiting the cocoon. What you may get as a nonargument is ‘Ohhhh, you watch Fox.
There is no more discussion, the dogma is fixed.

  10. The footsoldiers of all of my enemies, their families and their friends have been poisoned. And 18% or so are still lining up for shots. In January, the US guinea pigs enter year 2 of the human trials, Canada starts about March. I’ve seen a lot of comments stating that 2 years after the jab, the deaths should really pick up. We’ll see who is around by 2025 before I start to lose hope.

I still believe this is an intentional genocide, every country could have been thrilled with 50% of the population jabbed and paid twice, three times or even five times the price they paid for the shots – budgets mean nothing, no one would have questioned. There was no need to disrupt any Western society as governments did to try to get that last 35% jabbed. They were already fully in control. This wasn’t about money or Pharma profits.

And the immigrants who are supposed to take our place have largely been jabbed too. Unless Tim’s, McDonald’s and every other company treating me like a nigger had special rules for unjabbed immigrants I wasn’t aware of. Let’s see how happy all of them are when a chunk of their families die off. Dragging everyone to Canada for free crap apparently does have a price. And let’s see how palatable Canada is to live for the survivors when the free crap is gone.

We’re now 25 months to 2025. More and more is coming out about the jabs. Anecdotal deaths seem to be on the rise. Vaccine uptake has nosedived. The country is broke. Gas and food prices are high enough that government is worried about revolts from their own poisoned followers. Europe is teetering on social unrest. The useless ones over there are being culled. My area is hiring back retired 60 year old cops so I’m not worried about being rounded up. The media, education, tech and public employees are all jabbed up, some already suffering the effects no doubt, and they all want me dead.

This is the least oppressed I’ve felt in decades. Simply because it feels like all hell is about to break loose and our government should be worried. Let’s see how they feel once people in their security details lose 25% of their loved ones and start adding two and two together.

The socialists were already fully in charge. The economy would have collapsed, they’d vote for more free crap and want to try again. We would have never won otherwise.

    1. I listened for the first time in a long while to some “mainstream” corporate news commentary. I was amused by the interpretation of the vax-related news. Covid deaths of the vaccinated exceeding the unvaccinated is to be expected, because so many more people have been vaccinated. Excess deaths from unknown causes are really death from “long Covid”.

Regardless of truth, the state and its media will continue to propagandize its lies.

      1. If those excess deaths of “unknown causes” were from “long covid”, the prevailing mindset would have been to diagnose as such. On the other hand, for excess deaths as a result of vaccination, there would be heavy pressure to diagnose cause of death as unknown. Anecdotally, I have no acquaintances that have died of covid but I have had acquaintances die of “unknown” causes or after bizarre symptoms shortly after receiving a covid dose. As for myself, my knees functioned well for a man of my age until I got my covid shots (called it quits after two doses). After that my knees became quite arthritic. Coincidence? Maybe, but the triggering of autoimmune diseases is a known counter-indication of the vaccine and my wife’s polymyalgia flared up immediately after her first shot. She wisely declined to get a second dose.

        1. for excess deaths as a result of vaccination, there would be heavy pressure to diagnose cause of death as unknown

          Yes, certainly.

If those excess deaths of “unknown causes” were from “long covid”, the prevailing mindset would have been to diagnose as such

I agree. But perhaps there are reasons why they were not diagnosed as “long covid”.

First, I don’t even know if “long covid” is a real thing as understood by the medical/pharma cartel or just more urban mythery.

Secondly, I don’t know if hospitals are still being paid to diagnose covid cases as they had been during the height of the covid hysteria.

Thirdly, I don’t know if “long covid” is detectable even with the misused pcr test protocol, so perhaps it would be a “process of elimination” type diagnosis in the absence of even flimsy science or symptoms.

Fourthly, I don’t know the location of all these deaths from unknown cause. If they are dying outside of hospitals, they might never get to a hospital, they might go directly to a funeral home. They won’t be tested for anything in such places.

Fifthly, the number of post mortem examinations by medical coroners has been going down to almost zero in recent years, as governments assess the cost-benefit of autotopsies to be too expensive for too little benefit. This fact itself should be considered when discussing “unknown causes”, because there probably has been very little effort expended to determine a cause. If the cause is not immediately obvious, the medical bureaucracy will do very little to investigate a cause.

        2. If the deaths were from long Covid, the numbers should be going down as cases of Covid diminish. They are not. Also some of these people died while running a marathon or participating in some other vigorous activity. You are not doing that with Long Covid.

          1. As I hinted at above, I really don’t know if “long Covid” is a real thing. I barely know what to make of Covid, (undetectable, asymptomatic, non-lethal, highly contagious, etc.), so “long Covid” to my mind is even more suspect.

The medical/pharma/media/government complex will make use of any pretext to justify their ends, so if they need to invent “long Covid” to explain away mysterious increases in unknown cause deaths, they will.

My original point was that I found it quite rich they were taking the alarming increase in deaths from unknown cause as another prop for their Covid scam. Their chutzpah is breathtaking.

  11. And that is why my family has an appointment at the Mexican consulate dec 15 to apply for Mexican residency.

  12. ALL that matters is winning Toronto and sadly I don’t think they’ll ever vote against hair lisp. They just love his dreamy hair and his soft whispering (lisping) voice.

  13. I am not worried in the least, I was told by a very religious twitt, that the world will end by 1985, and if not then, absolutely by 2000, so it world will be gone before socialist destruction happens.

  14. Can someone in the government funded media ask Justin how cutting fertilizer use to reduce Canadian farm production will reduce CO2 in the atmosphere?
Wouldn’t growing more crops take more CO2 out of the atmosphere?
We have programs to plant more trees to take more CO2 out of the atmosphere so how is reducing the amount of farm crops produced going to reduce the amount of CO2?
Planting trees take CO2 out of the air but planting oats and barley don’t?

All these government funded media employees routinely declare their faith to the church of global warming so shouldn’t they be alarmed by a government program that will increase CO2 in the atmosphere?
If they actually care about all this global warming nonsense and want CO2 reduced then shouldn’t they speak up?
Have I dumbed this down enough so that a government funded journalist can understand the concept?

      1. Our side really needs to stop dancing in the prog frame.
These policies are obviously evil and shouldn’t be debated.
Enemies need to be crushed not entertained.

        1. Agreed. You cannot reason with an unreasonable person. By debating with the idiots, we are merely dignifying the process & giving it credence.

There’s only one way out of this mess: WEXIT.

      2. They absolutely don’t understand ANY of the science that they are constantly insisting we must follow.

Biden and the EPA are about to bankrupt a whole bunch of small drilling firms with methane emission regulations. Methane is incapable of increasing the temperature of the planet; but somehow, they have concluded this is necessary. They are scientifically illiterate, so don’t waste your time with reason, logic or verifiable science.

  15. Farmers! Do you know any other country on this planet that charges a 35% duty on fertilizer imports? The writing is on the wall for the next generation. Don’t get mad. Get even. Get out. Take a tax deductible winter vacation in Uruguay and check out the great opportunities in an Ag friendly country. Sell out to the Chinese or teachers pension fund here & and double your acreage with two crops of soys per year.

  16. I never stop debating or talking to Liberals.
They are now at the point where you can get them to call you a “liar” or “misinformed” for stating things like teaching anal masturbation in public schools is happening right now, or giving people too young for a tatoo castration drugs is happening here right now also.
When you press them further with “Can we agree that chemically castrating children is wrong or little children shouldn’t be taught anal masturbation in public schools.”
They won’t agree., but they will insist it’s not happening.

I don’t wonder what the conversations were like in 1939 Germany watching boxcars of people roll by any more.

  17. If you believe that the Charter of Rights and Freedoms is akin the American Constitution, then you are part of the problem.

The Charter is the reason why we are in this mess in the first place.

    1. In the US, rights are unalienable because humans are endowed with them by their Creator.

In Canada, “rights” were bestowed by the divine Trudeau, and are translated into realspeak by the high priests of the Trudeau court.

Agree with OK-san, it’s been 40 years now. If people haven’t caught on to the scam yet, then they really are very stupid.
