Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I can’t vote for the Quisling. Is she going to join the NDP a month before the next election?
Who you voting for then?
I’ve seen the people she had to put up with back in the day…I’d stab them in the backs too. Bunch of know-nothing yahoos.
Scar, Winston Churchill switched parties twice.
Yeah and look at “Great” Britain today!
I’ll check if you think I should, but I doubt he joined the Labour Party…
I think Marge liked him too… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUIPo8-gEAA
No, switching twice would mean Conservative to Liberal in 1904, then Liberal to Conservative in 1924. The Labour Party never factored in.
Without Churchill, there would be no Great Britain.
Ever made any mistakes in life ‘Mr Perfect’ ???
The choice is simple; Notley or Smith?
The choice is yours.
Some conservatives say, Smith isn’t conservative enough, and will not vote for Smith. If enough do that, we’ll end up with Notley.
When she led her people in crossing the floor she did so in response to a takeover of her party by what is now the Brian Jean wing – mainly older men who want to go back to the 1950s as they remember them (not as they were) – and several important policy commitments from Prentice. As things evolved, however, the Prentice people kept none of their promises, the media and the NDP got leaked info they should not have had, and then Prentice refused to call re-nominations and byelections in the affected ridings opting, instead, for a province wide election run on a bureaucrat written budget rather than one based on the ideas he and Ms. Smith had agreed on.
Bottom line: Smith was too trusting and suffered the consequences – classic scorpion bites frog stuff. Let’s hope she learned because now she’s up against the feds, the media, the NDP, and the bureaucracy.
If I remember correctly Prentice couldn’t resist calling an election while the NDP and Alberta Liberals were both without leaders in place. I held my nose and voted Conservative anyway.
Now Juthtin Cathtro has to not only deal with Pierre, but now Danielle, poking holes in his WEF plans and mandates.
Beer and popcorn shares will be in short supply.
I’m pretty stoked, just please don’t screw the pooch like Truss did. And don’t get obsessed with the sovereignty bit, lots of Alberta’s problems come from Edmonton. Embrace private healthcare, end the Alberta Human Rights Commission, end post-secondary funding. All of it. Open up the East FootHills to mining!
UnMe
….you completely surprise me…!!
agree with all your points,,,but you stance on sovereignty.
we MUST leave.
I’m not saying the sovereignty push isn’t a good idea, just that it shouldn’t consume all her efforts and agenda.
WOW, the UnUnMe!
Steakman: Sovereignty ain’t ever gonna happen. E V E R.
so UnMe is right on all points.
Ment..
Never say Never my friend…
Stranger shit has happened in this world…the past 5 yrs perfect example of that..
Do we really want to have a private versus public health care debate before the next election in 2023?
Get elected, then with a new four year year term, make the changes.
What many conservatives don’t seem to get, is you have to be in power to make and maintain changes.
Tell me what is so great about Canada’s public health care?
Chris
Now is not the time to fight an election on public vs private health care.
If Smith looses the 2023 election to Notley, then all we get is more bureaucrats supervising, coordinating, and running diversity and inclusion sessions in the health care system.
Number one job for Smith? Win the next election.
Oh for Christ’s sakes YES it is absolutely time to fight that fight and has been for decades. Just do it, watch the world not only not end but get radically better, win re-election. It doesn’t have to be a loud grandiose effort. Just do it quietly and quickly. Leave a public option for those who can’t afford better.
UnMe
Fighting an election on private health care vs public health care is a loosing strategy for a party trying to get elected.
Agree we need to improve health care. Do it after you win the election. Campaign on getting more GPs for Albertans. How would I sell that? I’d campaign on asking Doctors for their thoughts on how to get more GPs, pressuring Ottawa on more funding, reducing bureaucracy, etc.
What you actually do after the winning the election is a different story. If you are not in power, you can do diddly squat on health care.
Agreed. If we don’t deal with Edmonton we will never achieve separation.
Not a fan of Daniel Smith whatsoever, she alone got Rachel Notley elected through her idiotic maneuvers to support the radical progressive Jim prentice, any idiot could see that the manner in which she did so, putting a knife in the back of all other wild Rose members and constituents, was going to do nothing but damage.
Not only did she get Notley elected but she destroyed the wild Rose movement in Alberta, and gave the entrenched progressive conservatives a chance to survive. The party she now leads.
I do not believe a word that comes out of this woman’s mouth, if her actions prove me wrong I will be the first to applaud
And she needs to make Brian Jean her right hand man. For absolution.
Suffering from too much gas from sour grapes? Have you no ears & mind to process speech into meaning? Smith and Loewen were the only ones that talked about putting Alberta first. The only ones that 100% were anti-vax mandate even for valuable Healthcare workers. Smith is the only one that’s punching back against tyrannical Fed over reach. Yeah, sure Smith got pushed into crossing the floor by Preston Manning. BUT she grew up. And if it’s not clear from watching and listening to her that she won’t get pushed around any more by anyone then you’ve got a head full of granite. Albertans WON BIG tonight. And so did the ROC.
Couldn’t care any less about the ROC! They’re a bunch of losers sucking off the tit of the West! But yes, Alberta did win Big last nite. And, I wouldn’t be too hasty blaming her for the Nutley victory. That was Prentice! She was just a few years early in her attempts to unite the right.

Well that didn’t take long, did it? And people wonder why I don’t trust her?

Those won’t be the only surprises.
If you’re not a traditionalist on social issues, then you’re not a conservative. Libertarians are not conservatives. Ever.
Bully for libertarians.
In fact she always made it known that on so called “social” stuff, she is a kind of agnostic.
She repeated it on her radio program many times, nothing secret or underhanded about that.
She calls it libertarian, live and let live.
There are times that one does not agree with some positions.
How much can a person agree with everything that another person says or does.
There is a group of them, they are called socialists. You are in or out, there is not tolerance for deviation from the communist doctrine, none, you are out, possibly eliminated.
And I thought I was the only one. Very strong words from her speech, but they’re only just words. I will judge action, and like you, I remember the night of the long knives as well.
I don’t trust her either, but then again, I’m also skeptical of Pierre Poilievre, so there’s that.
You can’t go wrong being sceptical of a politician.
Redemption is not impossible, but I’d need to see a consistent pattern of actions, not words. For instance, ordering Albertan law enforcement to ignore new federal gun laws: Will she hold her ground, or cave when Ottawa threatens to withhold money or otherwise inconvenience the Albertan government in retaliation?
Not a good time to be a know nothing snow boarding instructor who got elected so boomers could relive their youth.
James, I hope you keep posting your anti-boomer nonsense here. You make this boomer’s day, knowing how my very existence is a thorn in your side. Seriously- thanks for the many laughs, and keep it up!
Smith has very poor political judgement and instincts.
I weep for the future of Alberta.
Notley’s NDP might make a comeback. God help us.
“Notley’s NDP might make a comeback”
I think that’s a little ways down the likelihood list …
One can only hope you are correct.
I believe Alberta has learned from experience to not elect socialists, ever again. Saskatchewan took longer to learn but is there now.
Trigger warning for the haters. Here’s her acceptance speech…
https://youtu.be/HAPaLE2OFvE
If the best argument you can muster for one candidate vs another is the other might somehow get an already motivated opposition even more motivated, your candidate is lame.
The right person won. The one who pisses off all the right people.
Take that, Laurentian Elite. They wanted to pick Alberta’s leader and policies and they just got the middle finger. Now watch the Spawn’s media go nuts. Congrats Danielle, Now follow UnMe’s advice above.
That’s two and zero for them by my count. Let’s hope the spawnfurher takes too many bong hits and pulls the plug for a hatrick.
The Establishment pick, Travis Toews, abruptly left after Danielle’s speech brushing off questions stating he’ll have something to say next week. Not I’ll sleep on it and have something to say tomorrow but NEXT WEEK?
Albertan’s are either stupid, or have short memory spans. Don’t be surprised if she stabs us all in the back again one day
Fool me once…
My top two wishes: get rid of the RCMP and establish an Alberta Provincial Police; and force the CF out of CFB Wainwright and Cold Lake. Use the newly established APP to harass the CF until they retreat to no further west than Manitoba. We can’t have an independent west until we abolish eastern sources of power/force.
Notley will win! Rotten Rach will be back after the next Alberta election. I hope I’m wrong but Smith showed she doesn’t have the Royal Jelly back when she took the Prentice Poison. She, like Kenney, is a childless misfit in a family focused Province. As a result the right will split over one or many family issues and Rachel will marshall the 40 percent perv vote to victory. Klaus will be happier with Rachel.
I pray I’m wrong.
“She, like Kenney, is a childless misfit in a family focused Province”
Pfft. It’s an urban world out there buddy, and our world is thankfully increasingly child-free. Calgary IS Alberta for all intents and purposes. It’s the ‘family focused’ types who are the misfits.
I’m cautiously optimistic for Alberta and the West. She has a unique opportunity now until election day to start implementing the things she ran on. I never thought i’d give her another chance after what happened with the WRP, but here we are. Now if Pierre can continue on and kick the petulant child to the curb one day soon….do i dare to be cautiously optimistic for Canada?..we’ll see.
Mischief is important. She does not have to do much more than hold off the Diddler and Racist in Chief Trudeau.
Canada will be broken up anyway. Trudeau and Singh have us 9 Trillion in debt now.
When Ottawa can no longer support all the various ethnic vote buying scams and welfare programs. Canada the Largest Open Air Self Supporting Penal Colony In The World Will Be Broken Up,
Hope you are right/correct Watcher – hope you are right!
I wish her luck, she’ll need it when the Ottawa establishment starts its campaign against Alberta for getting uppity.
However when the folks in the MTV have to start giving up Starbucks cause they can’t afford to keep the heat above 15 degrees in the winter, that global warming/climate change doesn’t keep the liberal base on the reservation too effectively.
Starts?
Many of Alberta’s conservative leaders have been shallow and had a poor sense of judgement. What’s one more. This one’s as vapid as Trudeau.
Alberta is at the crossroads today. Do we go with status quo or do we become more than hewers of wood and drawers of water for the Laurentian elite and their WEF masters? While I am not a fan of Danielle I do get the impression she won because she represents change much more than anyone else on the slate. With the exception of Loewen all the other candidates represent the tired, corrupt good old boys elite that have wrought death and destruction all over the world. I was at a funeral a few weeks ago and as always seems to happen the discussion turned to politics, Canada and Alberta. Someone brought up the idea that Alberta could join the US but that was quickly quashed by almost everyone there. A moment of silence then someone said “I just want to be Albertan”. There was furious nodding of heads and expressions of “you got it”. Jason Kenney was elected on the premise of a new direction for Alberta and everything he did and later stated was “I believe in Canada but not Alberta”. Once he was fired and premier he actually became not a bad premier. However his record on the covid file will forever taint his very short term as premier.
I don’t want Alberta to be part of the United States.
For those that do, I have a simple solution, just cross the border, drive to California, claim asylum, and the Democrats will welcome you
It is my firm belief that at some point in the future—distant or not—Alberta, possibly all of western Canada or even all of Canada will become part of the United States. It will be at their desire and discretion, not ours. They are the world’s most powerful country and they will protect that position. If they need Canada’s resources such as oil and water to survive and prosper they will take them. And there is not a damn thing Canada will be able to do about it.
The US is a fading star. That’s not going to happen.
I believe that Kenney like the rest of the Premieres were bribed by the Feds to go along with the Covid/ vaccine/ lockdown mandates as dictated by the Feds. threatening to withhold CERB, for example, would have coerced Provinces into compliance. That is why governments of all political stripes pretty much did exactly the same thing. It was a difficult time to govern. Feds were using their financial clout to force compliance.
Smith is the most libertarian politician in the country. She is for smaller government and individual rights.
As a libertarian she also supports gay marriage and a womans right to choose.
She is an ideologue which will get her in trouble with the electorate eventually.
Rachel Notley is a formidable opponent. The NDP have a solid 40% support. It won’t take much to put them back in power. Edmonton is a government town. Virtually all seats will go ndp. Calgary will be the battleground.
Smith has an uphill battle to sell herself to to conservatives and Alberta.
“She is an ideologue which will get her in trouble with the electorate eventually.”
Almost all politicians ‘get in trouble with the electorate’ eventually. The record of ‘pragmatists’ particularly on the right is poor. They are rudderless and end up in trouble with the electoral regularly with little to show for it. Ideologues will at least have something to show for their efforts. In any event, Smith just happens to have the best ideology available in politics. All the goodness of free markets without the racism, misogyny, homophobia or other bigotry and backwardness of ‘traditionalists’ and other weirdos.
Smith has to steer clear from the wacky naturopathic quack cancer treatment stuff.
And she has to avoid getting caught in the weeds of some of the more fantasy-world parts of her sovereignty act.
One of the greatest things about elections in democratic countries is that all votes are equal. A vote by a wealthy person who wants to lay back on their comfortable life and not rock the boat is not worth any more (or less) than the vote by a single Mom with kids who has trouble putting food on the table. I worked with the general public in the Calgary area for 44 years. I dealt with people from all walks of life. There are a great many Albertans whose lives and livelihoods have been greatly damaged or destroyed by the Trudeau liberals and their anti-Alberta policies. The anger is very deep and the desire to fight back is very strong. The NDP have already shown that they have no guts or desire to fight back against the Trudeau liberals. Albertans are proud of their province and will fight to protect it. I believe a very great many will back a leader who comes out as a fighter.
It would be good to take note of Smiths history and keep it in mind.
It would be helpful for people to take a note of what Smith said in past few weeks and yesterday.
Right now, it is as though a new start.
It would be good to work with that and not see what happens, help it happen.
amen to that
Does anybody think for one second that Justin Trudeau will back down one iota on his carbon tax and oil industry destruction through negotiation? Does ‘playing nice’ with him work? Has it ever? No, and everybody in Canada knows it. It’s Justin’s way or the highway. If Alberta wants to improve it’s standing in confederation and regain control of it’s energy resources a battle will need to be waged and won. Period. Danielle Smith is a great choice for a leader in that battle. If we don’t fight back we will lose and Trudeau will win. Alberta can win. We must win. It’s now or never folks.
Alberta conservatives are the dumbest people on earth. They elected the one leader who will have been responsible for both victories by the alberta NDP.
Short sighted idiots.
My contempt for the ucp only grows with time
Their record is a train wreck of stupid leaders since Klein. Getty, Stelmach, Redford, Prentice, Kenney and now this latest idiot. Most of them have been forced out of power. Smith is next.
To be clear I am a centrist libertarian but the UCP is not my home. I am stateless and will spoil my ballot.
Troll.
Centrist libertarian?
After the last 3 years, this is your take?
Troll.
Instead of calling me names like a whiny little girl why don’t you explain your reasoning.
And yes, centrist libertarian is a thing. Go educate yourself about the difference between authoritarianism and libertarianism versus left and right in the political spectrum.
You are not very bright and I don’t know why I’m wasting my time with you. An obvious brain dead follower of Danielle Smith. You people don’t learn.
Haha, good one!
Your post was an insulting smear of millions of Albertans (past & present) & your only “reasoning” was – “centrist libertarian”.
Over the last 3 years, black face election start point, we’ve endured multiple, egregious assaults on our economy, our rights & our constitutional bedrock.
Provincial jurisdiction is a thing in a Confederation – perhaps take your advice & educate yourself.
I would expect a “centrist libertarian” to be extremely concerned about the undermining of our constitution & flagrant trampling of our liberties & personal autonomy.
You appear to offer little beyond insults & projection. But hey, sorry for calling you a troll.
Cheers,
