That’ll show Putin!

Most wars start out with the widespread belief that victory will be quick and easy. When things drag on with no prospect of victory, the economic damage eventually forces some sort of reckoning. It looks like the price of that reckoning is getting steeper by the minute.

As of Friday, 70% of capacity is offline across the continent, according to Fertilizers Europe, representing top regional producers.

“The current crisis begs for a swift and decisive action from EU and national policymakers for both energy and fertilizer market,” Jacob Hansen, director general of Fertilizers Europe, said in a statement.

Producers from Norway’s Yara International ASA to CF Industries to Borealis AG recently reduced or halted production because European NatGas prices hit a record high of 343 euros per megawatt hour, making it uneconomical to operate.

  1. “But CNN, BBC, WaPo, NYT and all the other WEF Globohomo corporate media ASSURE us that Russia is losing 3-10 million soldiers each day! So by ten weeks ago, the war will end! Slava WEF!

“Next thread, I will express my outrage at how the WEF Globohomo corporate media always lies…..but on another unrelated topic. No spineless hypocrisy there.”

  2. This is not primarily due to Ukraine/Putin. It is due to the idiotic idea of killing off perfectly valid generation systems in the name of a lunatic delusion, which they have to keep renaming as each successive name clearly becomes idiotic.

Global Warming, as it used to be known.

Have to kill off those evil fossil fuel power stations — including atomic, which isn’t fossil fuel … but … Squirrel!! — and when the destructive windmills and solar cells can’t keep up, let’s use natural gas … which may be fossil fuel … but it’s “natural”!!! so that’s ok.

  3. The war closes European ammonia plants. The liberal destroyers close Canadian ammonia plants. Starvation on a biblical level. And somehow it’s all Trump’s fault.

    1. Actually, provincial governments should simply ignore the feds and keep all ammonia plants open. By force if necessary.

  4. All part of the New Green Holodomor.
Destroy the capacity for food production to produce the famines that they want to reduce world population and save the planet for Greta.

  5. From a Canadian prairie province perspective, I find it darkly humourous that the Trudeau Liberal government has spent 7 years trying to hobble and harm the economies of Alberta and Saskatchewan by shutting down pipeline construction, FF energy expansion and ocean port infrastructure but now war and green energy mandates have caused the price of fossil fuels, agriculture products, fertilizer, etc. to skyrocket worldwide. Because Ottawa has scuttled the ability of Alberta and Saskatchewan to export fossil fuels, we also now have some of the lowest natgas prices around.

Have Alberta and Saskatchewan managed to be in a sweet spot where the provinces will have budget surpluses due to high commodity, agriculture and oil prices while maintaining affordable natgas heating for residents and manufacturing costs for businesses? If so, it would be cosmic justice that the 2 provinces most persecuted by the federal Trudeau Liberal government still end up having the strongest economies in Canada…and then use that money to start perusing autonomy from Ottawa.

Not only is the war, sanctions, green energy spectacularly and tragically backfiring globally but it’s also backfiring on Trudeau’s war against Alberta and Saskatchewan.

    1. If Saskatchewan and Alberta wanted to add insult to injury then they should consider implementing an export fee for any “dirty” fossil fuel products shipped to Canadian provinces outside of AB/SK. Call it a Greener Futures Fee. Use the money to build small modular reactors, irrigation projects, tree planting and other climate change adaptations projects. I’m sure the rest of Canada would be happy to contribute to producing a greener, cleaner Canada by assisting Alberta and Saskatchewan in their Greener Futures projects. You know, let Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver put their money where their mouth is.

      1. That and put on a payroll tax like the NWT does for anyone working there who is not a resident.
If liberals want to vote to destroy their own provincial economies and then commute to work here they should pay.

      1. Sure, but there’s an entry requirement. Those regions who want to join must be able to show a history of not voting for federal Liberal or NDP or Green parties. /s

  6. Yes, I hear its called a famine.. Look it up if you have no understanding of what crop failure looks like.. The failing farms will remove the experts from the industry.. Another example of a very complex thing our ancestors built, being destroyed because the leftists have nothing better to do..

A word to the wise.. Starving people will save enough energy to get their revenge..

    1. They should eat the green idologues, government experts, politicians and bureaucrats.

  7. The scariest part is many will believe this is merely a confluence of bad luck, when the opposite is true. This is a confluence of bad policy, and evil policy, the prepared will survive, many will not.

    1. Peter, Yes, this. Luck has nothing to do with it, this is BY DESIGN, Planned, and is being implemented.
Yes, I am prepared as best I can be, but as you are aware, we’ll never be prepared enough. My only hope is when the mob gets their hands on the PTB , they complete the executions and follow up with trials for all of them. Also, yes, beer and popcorn are on hand, and part of my fully prepared list. I just don’t think I’ll have enough.

  8. I wonder what part of the reality of 84% of the worlds energy consumption is fossil fuels they fail to understand. Bio-fuels are mostly the burning of wood and the fossil fuel wasters of wind and solar amount to a monumentally expensive 2% while the rest is hydro and nuclear. Given that the green theocracies are opposed to everything but wind and solar and some wood burning, that tells you all you need to know of their human genocide project. The Death cult greens have apparently adopted the Jimmy Jones model into the global green theocracy complex. Access to affordable energy is synonymous with human progress and prosperity. Going from higher density to lower density energy is the reverse process and the official policies of the governments of the billion souls of the EU and Anglosphere who control most of the worlds capital but are destroying it as fast as they can decarbonize. The west will either bifurcate and contain the madness to urban centers where gangs will take over, engage in civil wars, go Venezuela, or perhaps Gang Green will push Biden into fostering WWIII as they are already suicidal and are OK with the faster road to depopulation. They know from the thriving wildlife around Chernobyl that Gaia will survive along with a few of them, particularly the wealthy who have contingencies. They are truly that deranged.

    1. Enviro-activists and their political enablers make SS concentration camp guards look like humanitarians.

  9. “Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.” ”

    ~ Robert Heinlein

    1. Western economies have been so successful in the last 50 years, that we have been able to keep alive stupid people.
That is soon going to change.

      1. Or as I like to ask: “Who do you think is gonna starve first? The type of people who vote lib or dipper, or the type of people that vote conservative?” Let the hunger games commence!

  10. The root cause is the Net Zero idiocy promulgated by most European governments. Putin’s quagmire just brought it to a head a little more quickly.

  11. EU gas storage capacity is already at almost 80%.

So it doesn’t matter that capacity is off line now.

    1. You DO realise why they are claiming that, right? Because if the markets were given the true state of storage, NatGas downstream futures prices would be off the scale …

But please, do keep swallowing Western government stats at face value.

    2. I think the article is referencing a ammonia, but whatever. How many months gas consumption at winter rates can they store? Not many I’m guessing.

  12. Everybody knows that one of the first steps in winning a war is to hobble your own domestic economies and energy production sectors.

  13. “The economic damage”…

    False premis.
Dictators don’t care about economic damage and – if the threat is great enough – democracies will accept far worse than we are currently seeing.

Ask anyone who is old enough to remember the rationing and dislocation from WW2. Both the World Wars ended when the belligerents were unable to continue MILITARILY. Physically destroying their industries contributed to that, but economically?

What I’m seeing here is an argument for avoiding short-term pain in the hope that long-term pain will be someone-else’ problem. We’ve tried “accomodating” dictators before, and it didn’t work out well. Those Canadians storming the beaches in 1944 can testify that appeasement doesn’t work.

    1. Please explain in detail how, exactly, destroying the British and German economies is helping Ukraine to survive.
