A win for the good guys.

Today’s unanimous ruling by Alberta’s Court of Appeal is a total legal, moral and constitutional victory for Pastor Artur Pawlowski and his brother David.

In short, Alberta’s top judges ruled that:

~ the court order that was used to arrest and jail Pastor Artur was flawed and therefore illegal;

~ all of the punishments that flowed from that — such as being fined and jailed — were without basis. Pastor Artur’s fines will be returned to him

~ the additional bizarre, authoritarian penalties — banning him from going on speaking tours; requiring him to read a statement denouncing himself any time he criticized the government — were revoked, and deemed unconstitutional.

    2. Same sentiment here, I am happy to hear this, but I am less than happy that those who maliciously, cynically, militarized the state apparatus to torment Artur, will not be held responsible.

      1. As I’m sure you’re aware, it’s virtually impossible to hold police accountable for any abuse of power in Canada. They’re assumed to be acting in good faith and you have to prove otherwise, meaning the onus of proof is on you.

        Absent a friend in the department willing to provide you with internal documentation it’s not even worth filing.

        1. Those cops didn’t just decide to do this on their own. They were given orders to do this. Keep going up the chain.

They didn’t decide on the orders they were given but they made two decisions, first they decided to serve the corrupt tyrants, second they always have room to maneuver as to how much force and abuse to employ while following the orders. They’re nothing but low IQ thugs and they routinely abuse their power and escalate every encounter because they get off on it, because that’s why they joined the force in the first place. There are no good ones.

    3. Never happen. It should at least have Alberta’s justice system review the judge’s work before his rulings on this case, and if warranted, remove him from the bench. To say the least, ordering defendants to state Newspeak as punishment is very Mao and insane.

  14. This is the worst scandal I’ve seen in my life. Every single person responsible for this needs to serve time in prison. Will Danielle Smith campaign on a platform of throwing these bastards in prison? She’ll have my vote if she does.

  15. No one is going to convince me that everyone involved in this Government sanctioned terrorizing of a citizen did not know that what they were doing was illegal. Its simply impossible to believe that the Premier, the Judges and the Calgary Gestapo didn’t know they were breaking the law… they knew their actions were illegal but they did it anyhow.

    This is third world style corruption at every level.

    There has to be punishment for knowingly breaking the laws.

    At the very least everyone involved from the Premiers office to the Judiciary and those animal cops should all lose their jobs and their pensions, thats a start.

    They are all criminals, why should they get away with their crimes ?
