I’ve been reading a little history, and I’ve become convinced that State Department officials shouldn’t be allowed to have anything to do with affairs of state. They are peopled with bloodless, ambitious, duplicitous, inimical, conniving, contemptible political animals, who routinely blow agents, leak secrets, betray friendly nations, and incite discord and revolution. They will blandly and indifferently promote conflicts that lead to the future deaths of thousands abroad, in the hope of realizing even a scrap of present political advantage for themselves.
The US state department is at least equally culpable for the war in Ukraine as Vladimir Putin, and should be called to account for what they have done. They promoted the insurgencies that lead to the collapse of the previous government in Ukraine, and to the suppression of the Russian ethnic minorities in Donbas. They publicly crowed about bringing Ukraine into NATO, even though America had promised that no former Soviet satellite states would be considered for membership – confronting Russia with the very real possibility of NATO airbases and a nuclear-armed Ukraine on their border. They did everything in their power to encourage the government of Ukraine to fight a war they can not win. They have destabilized that region as thoroughly as they destabilized Egypt, Libya, and other parts of the middle east a few years ago.
Historically, this not a new phenomenon. The Americans aren’t uniquely guilty of this. The British Foreign Office was full of these contemptible creatures back during the Napoleonic wars. The French and the Russians played this game as well – just look at their actions in Afghanistan and the Pashtun regions of what was formerly India. Sadly, the sort of men who seek these positions rarely suffer any consequences for the misery they inflict on others.
