  1. Excellent movie choice! Alec Guinness gives a subdued performance in that, though I think Maureen O’Hara might have been out of place. It’s directed by Carol Reed, the same chap who made The Third Man (Joseph Cotten, Orson Welles, Trevor Howard, and Bernard Lee) about a decade earlier.

Besides, there’s a scene with a dachshund in it, though I wasn’t happy that its character might have been poisoned.

After having seen the movie The Tailor of Panama, I think the plot was inspired by OMIH.

    1. Here are two more movies based on Alistair MacLean novels.

We’ll start with The Golden Rendezvous:

Think of The Poseidon Adventure but with a bomb threat instead of a sinking. It’s the kind of movie to have on while filling out your income tax return.

The second is a lacklustre auto racing flick, The Way to Dusty Death:

The plot’s predictable and unimaginative. You might want to consider painting your house while watching this.

I’ve got some more in the queue…..

    1. His poker tell is huge. As soon as he starts stuttering, he has nothing (which is most of the time). Not a very good actor, either.

    1. If it is a virus, viruses mutate, always have always will. Everything done by insane governments and terrified people have made it possible for even mild strain of damn near anything to kill millions. The vaxxes are deadly. I never knew anyone who had the dreaded “covid” until well after they started taking the vaxxes, now it seems many people are getting colds and are calling it “covid”. The rapid test says the common cold can be “covid”. I don’t know how TPTB are going to be able to back this mess up, but government is responsible for every death and illness. The insanity is going to kill us all if we continue to comply.

  2. In Ontariowe, some of the people who have real hazards at their jobs of building things and making the world comfortable for crazy Karens, the laptop leeches and government slugs want more money.

Crane operators & heavy eqp operators are on strike. Labourers are on strike.
The Carpenters have voted 75% in favour of a strike and that will start next week if a bargain can’t be struck before then.
Heh, I’ve got some yard work to do, but I’ll picket if it comes down.

    1. If only a certain prime minister’s mother had done that to her son when he was younger…..

    1. He also was in Dead Poets Society.

By the way, both Saboteur and North by Northwest have similar plots, which isn’t surprising as both were directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

    1. Of course, he said that. He was indoctrinated into the Young Global Leaders of the WEF in 1994 when he was Premiere of Quebec. Who do you think is endorsing and encouraging him into the CPC leadership race. Klaus Anal Schwab, that’s who.

  3. Louisiana GOP is pushing a bill that will make preventing the implantation of the zygote a capital crime. To be clear: without Roe, IUD = murder. Giving someone the Plan B pill = murder. Many American states will require honest to god underground railroads for women to escape the Red State Taliban.

I used to make fun of The Handmaiden’s Tale, then Gilead happened.

  4. We have an explanation as to why Joseph Bourgault and other socon candidates for the CPC leadership was disqualified.
They told the Bourgault & Abraham campaigns that the advertised buy-in fee of $300,000 – stated plainly, in writing, and consisting of a $200,000 registration fee plus $100,000 compliance deposit – does not equal $300,000.
According to the party bureaucrats, $200,000 + $100,000 = $345,0000. You read that right!
But even if that were the case, Bourgault submitted $367,453 by deadline.
Not enough, you see, because $367,453 is less than $345,000. You read that right too!
You can check out the rules for yourself. Section 3.3.1 states that “There will be a leadership Candidate registration fee of $200,000.” Section 3.4.1 says that “To ensure compliance with these rules and good conduct of the Candidates in the election process, a compliance deposit of $100,000 will be required.

    When I studied math in elementary school, 200,000 + 100,000 = 300,000 not 345,000.

So you see, 2+2 does equal 5 in the CPC leadership world! Seems to me that the products of today’s education system have already graduated, and are working for the CPCs.
And these authoritarian Red Tories have the temerity to insist that Bourgault WAS NOT disqualified because of his political views! Right! and it snows in Florida in July.

Of course, this is all bovine excrement, but that is the nature of politics in Canada these days.

    1. Good for the CPC. They should purge all the nutbars and dump them in Bernier’s clownshow. It might have some utility as a kind of superfund site for the Canadian Right.

      1. The ends justify the means, right Unme? That’s just what I would expect from a flaming liberal.
Forget about due process. Just ignore changing the rules midstream, and pay no attention to the lack of basic math skills.

At least if the cons had come out and said that we don’t like your political views, so we won’t allow you to run, I’d have at least a smidgeon of respect for their honesty, but not much more than that. Pulling stunts like this is what loses elections.

You represent what is woefully wrong with this country.

        1. 1) The CPC is a private organization, their process is whatever they want it to be. They don’t owe you a ‘due process’.

          2) “Pulling stunts like this is what loses elections.”

LOL no it’s what keeps nutbars from throwing them.

          1. I would think I would want the process to be fair. Why enter a rigged game in the first place?

And who gets to decide who is a “nutbar?” YOU?

I’d rather have the party members do it. It’s a little thing I’ve become accustomed to… It’s called “democracy.” Something you are obviously blatantly unaware of.

  5. Huh. Wonder if they’d feel the same way if they were the ones receiving fire.

Two RCMP officers who shot at bystander during N.S. mass shooting say it was the right decision

What a coupla Sturmführer boneheads. No wonder Prinz Dummkopf likes the Queen’s Horsemen. And, just one more reason to kick their asses out of Alberta.

    1. That one needs a posting all of its own.
Amazing “testimony” by those two bone heads.
Perfect candidates for the circular firing squad..
Imagine the results,if any licensed firearms owner admitted to such idiocy.
I guess those in the Fire Hall have to be grateful, their marksmanship, with rifles even,is on par with their intelligence.
Has this “Inquiry” got to the massive cash withdrawal Wortman managed yet?
How about the multiple times concerned citizens called the RCMP to tell them he had pistols and was nuts?

Or are they desperately avoiding going there?
How many years before we find out this killer was a police groupie and informant?
      Nothing to see here,move along!.
