If you haven’t heard from a Russian soldier in the Ukraine for a month – guess what? He’s dead. The Army isn’t going to tell you. They likely don’t even know themselves. How do you do a phone poll in Russia? Everyone assumes it’s the KGB or whatever.

The mothers and widows convinced them to end an equally stupid war in Afghanistan. Most Russians know lots of Ukrainians and know they are no threat whatsoever. Russia will have a real war soon enough when China occupies Asiatic Russia and the Stans. That one isn’t a maybe. Seeing how weak Russia is means it could happen really soon.
The Chinese are not getting involved in the Ukraine conflict because they know better than to start a war with Russia.
They prefer that Russia do the hard work of removing the West as a military threat to China.

Does anyone really think all ordinary Russians are going to give their honest opinions to someone on a phone or with a clipboard? Some will, some will not. Most will either try to give the government approved opinions, or the popular majority opinions.
I could very well see Russians saying NO to war, then realizing the government is doing it anyway, shutting up or publicly changing their opinions. Do not believe me, just look at how many Russian Citizens are actively fleeing Russia since the start of the war?
Polling? I do not answer any polls I choose not to answer. One, I screen all my calls. Two, I refuse to answer questions from some random idiot either on the phone, or in person.
I can’t imagine why Russians would be upset that the US sponsored a coup in Ukraine in 2014 then started arming them up, throwing gasoline on the resulting civil war…
