    1. I looked up femicide and the reason to use it would be because the person intentionally killed the other person because they are a female.
      I guess that might be another descriptor for honor killing.

    It’s rather cheesy, though it’s not quite 1-1/4 hours long. It’s the sort of thing that my father and I would stay up late to watch on TV while I was still in school.

    The design of the F-102 Delta Dagger interceptor that’s shown in the movie makes one wonder if it might have been influenced by the Avro Arrow.

    1. F-102 Delta Dagger flew for the first time five years before the Arrow, so if anything the influence went the other way.

        Delta wings were all the rage back then – note the Gloster Javelin and Dassault Mirage, both of which pre-date the Arrow.

    Individual rights and the right to be left alone..Cannot exist in a Welfare/Big Government State.

    Well they got the nasties part right.

    What shall we do differently?
    Should our militia be mostly staffed with retirees and volunteers?
    Or shall we copy the Swiss..where every able body is the militia?
    Cause one thing has never changed,if we create a wealthy orderly civil society,it must be protected.
    For nothing attracts freeloaders greater,than pools of unguarded wealth.

    1. That relates to my problem with western separation. We gotta defend it. Look at the riches we have. Oil, uranium, potash farmland clean water forest. I am missing a few things. If we separate the Americans will invade never mind China. They would have already but are smart enough to not want Quebec

      An old friend of my Dad told me years ago….. this part of the world has riches and so few people we should be the most affluent citizens on earth. Yet here we are.

      And for the record. I support western separation. We just need to figure out some details. And my wet dream is Justin’s legacy the break up of Canada.

        That said, I would absolutely love to be proven wrong. Who knows, maybe one day we will see an actual conservative emerge from the shadows to lead an actual Albertan conservative party to save the day. Trump proved damn near anything is possible these days.

    Between the first pilot and the first episode the amount of money they gave Lionel for flowers went from 50 cents to a buck.

    1. Something happened this past week with food inflation. The price of food has increased substantially, very recently. It’s as if Loblaws sat back (on their price increases) and this week said “screw it” and raised them big-time.

      1. There is probably not a major corporation that won’t manipulate these growing hard times to try and maximize profits.

        An Applebee’s exec was recently fired for recommending they lower their employees wages because many Americans will soon be desperate enough to take ANY kind of job. I suspect the only reason he was canned was because his words made it out of the boardroom.

      I blame my youthful ignorance of geopolitics for my failure to grasp the intent of such programming. I was only 7 years old when the first pilot came out.

    Forget the climate crisis. It’s not important. A few ice shelves chipping off, sea level rise destroying New York and Miami, polar bears eating penguins because of melting sea ice…but nothing like Las Vegas and its stinky casinos.

  12. I remember I was supposed to like that show when I was a young man, old boy. I never did. I thought it started as biased and stupid as MASH finished. Weird, I guess, but I hated being preached to all my life and still do.

    1. My father, a WWII vet, used to giggle like a schoolgirl over both All in The Family and Sanford and Son. In a world that was slowly leaving his generation behind, I think he saw a bit of himself in both Archie and Fred.

      Enjoying watching these shows together was one of the very few things we had in common.

    1. When I was finishing my first master’s degree, one of my fellow grad students was an Aussie. He didn’t like Archie Bunker as he figured AB was a rip-off of Alf Garnett.

  23. It was strange watching the first 2 attempts at All in the Family. They weren’t bad, but the actors chosen for Gloria and Meathead seemed uneasy in their roles and lacked the spontaneity that was in the series. Maybe the bugs were finally worked out by the time the show eventually went on the air.

    It was obvious that Norman Lear didn’t think much of “deplorables” like Archie at first, trying to make him into someone to be laughed at and not with. I don’t think Lear counted on the show becoming popular not because the audience liked to see Archie pilloried, but because it spoke to those same “deplorables”, someone they identified with.

    As the show went on, I think Lear finally understood that as, in many of the later episodes, Archie was portrayed more sympathetically.
