Michael Osterholm has been correct about Covid-19 more often (and earlier) than nearly any other infectious disease expert.
Take five minutes to hear Dr. Osterholm explain the vanishing flu is the same thing that happened in the 2009 H1N1 pandemic with no mitigation, and happened again this time globally, including countries with no mitigation. Simple facts. pic.twitter.com/bZVpF0DYfs

Osterholm.
Trust what he says? He was one of the early Covid enemas of freedom. Not sure he has the best advice for anyone. Or is he one that keeps changing sides of the argument, depending on who is winning?
Yeah, he’s a vaxhole. Proud of the safety record, I guess 20,000 dead of the clotshot is acceptable Collateral Damage
Interesting; here in Alberta, seniors are being given a “stronger” variant of the vaccine, and one targeting four strains instead of the usual three.
Do you have information on that claim?
For a second opinion, the anti-mass vaccination German biologist blogger Eugyppius:
https://eugyppius.substack.com/p/the-disappearance-of-influenza
The flu is gone. This is not an illusion. It’s not down to the wilful or mistaken misdiagnosis of Corona or anything like that. Most countries have long-standing influenza surveillance programs, entire offices of people whose job it is to find and track the flu. These programs are still running, and influenza tests are still widely administered across the world. Despite all of this searching, nobody can find anything but a few outliers. As a seasonal phenomenon in the northern and southern hemispheres, influenza has disappeared.
There are many ways to confirm that flu is missing. To begin with, it has a very characteristic hospitalisation signature. It is dangerous to the olds, just like Corona; but it is also dangerous to infants and the very young, unlike Corona. Flu season has always caused substantial hospitalisations and deaths both in the elderly and in young children. We don’t see the characteristic child mortality in our numbers, and we haven’t since 2020. And then there’s this: When the pandemic started, PCR tests for Corona were hard to come by, and so a lot of places tested manically for influenza to rule it out and establish SARS-2 as a probable diagnosis. Data from various countries thus provides a sharp picture of the atypically steep collapse in flu cases that occurred in March 2020, in perfect tandem with the surge in Corona infections.
Everything suggests that Corona has displaced influenza. Even if we can’t identify or even really conceive of the mechanism, Corona begins to resemble an invasive species that has disturbed the ecology of human-infecting respiratory viruses. Nobody will talk about this, because they are eager to claim any victory they can for mass containment. The absence of flu must be ascribed to lockdowns, even though flu is gone even in countries that have not locked down.
“The absence of flu must be ascribed to lockdowns, even though flu is gone even in countries that have not locked down”
Who can argue with such logic!
I don’t know about that. My better half has a 38.5 low grade fever as we speak, with flu symptoms, achiness and the blahs.
Yes, watching for the Vid, but no cough, and has sense of smell and taste.
The special medicine is ready if necessary.
There has been a “hard cold” going around Victoria for a few weeks now, we suspect it is that, of not a flu.
Dan is right. My son had it some 3 weeks ago, and included a cough (we are in the lower mainland, though). He tested negative for the Wuhan flu. Since we share the home office space, I am attributing the fact that I did not catch it to diligently following the C/D/Zn/Quercitin protocol, which should take care of most upper respiratory viral infections, and the daily early long walks with the dog. Or it was just a FLUke!
Pretty simple. Influenzas r0 barely goes above 1 during the flu season. It does not take much effort – sanitation and staying home when you are sick – to push it well below 1 and keep it there.
In short, we are slobs that keep the flu alive.

Brilliant! Long live the Hawk.
But everyone wears masks in China! And ride bikes. And China is wealthier and more powerful than the US, Canada, and Britain combined. So don’t we want to … to … be like them? Now wear your mask comrades! Or you will be reported to your Block Captain for re-education
I remember reading somewhere years ago that all traditional Flu’s come from Ducks in Guangdong Province China.
Perhaps with the world wide travel restrictions placed on everybody in the last year it has slowed down the spread of the common flu.
They intentionally stopped testing for influenza in March 2020 to focus exclusively on Covid-19. It didn’t disappear, we stopped looking for it. We didn’t start looking for it again until Sept.//Dec. 2020 in various jurisdictions. However, the number of tests was likely insufficient to determine prevalence and incidence in the community. Not to mention BIAS towards Covid based on clinical presentation of symptoms. I know of patients diagnosed with Covid, but being given *antibiotics* to fight a pneumonia…
People are splooching *anti-bacterial* hand sanitizer when they enter stores, but is the measure really effective (are they following the instructions for the product, sufficiently washing their hands, etc.). What of the touching of masks with dirty hands? What of reusing the same dirty masks many times over?
Claiming that the blue masks that people wear are effective against an aerosolized respiratory viruses like the flu is simply promoting an untruth.
I highly suspect cloth masks are worn repeatedly during a day and not always washed after multiple wearings.
I have seen many masks of all types worn below the nose. In a grocery store I witnessed a person put his finger and thumb under his blue mask to moisten them to help him open a plastic produce bag. Everything else he touched would be contaminated but as long as that mask is on the face all is well!
I know I have been right about this evil bullshit from the start. Science has proven me right as have rational medical people.
So the burning question, do we need a flu shot?
Are people who are normally susceptible to the flu this time of year getting COVID instead?
