Let’s make it Worse

Labour shortage in the food sector is nothing new, but it is now worse than ever

Many restaurant operators have next to no cushion to increase wages. To offset staffing woes, many are limiting operating hours. Some are closing Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, or are opening fewer hours during the day. In fact, don’t be surprised if a greater number of restaurants are managed like flights in the airline industry. Airlines will fly if they can fill the aircraft. If not, they’ll cancel. More restaurants are likely to open only if most seats can be filled.

In food distribution, the situation is beyond comprehension. On farms and in processing, labour shortages are not just about convenience and profitability. Around 35.5 million tonnes of food goes to waste across Canada’s supply chain each year according to a recent Second Harvest report.

Not mentioned in the article is the affect of lockdowns, vaccine mandates and a non-stop propaganda machine telling the public that they’re all going to die if they go out for lunch. Or at the very least be infected with the plague even though they’ve had their two shots. Is it any wonder that more and more people don’t want to participate in any part of this?

  1. A Dal professor writing for the Star owned Spec.
Nice article with only half the story.
Wonder he didn’t somehow blame Trump or Alberta.

  2. Transportation doesn’t seem to be affected. On my way back to Edmonton from Fort St. John earlier this week, I encountered several trucks pulling trailers for restaurant food supplies. Whether they were loaded is another matter.

  3. Guess who has fucked your country and your freedom? Just guess. It wasn’t people who think the whu who flu is a fraud. It wasn’t the people who vote PPC. It was every idiot that bought into the fear porn generated by the government, through the media, about the fucking whu who flu. I have said this from the start. It is was and will continue to be complete and total bullshit. There is an old quote, My kingdom for horse. I will say, my kingdom for an intelligent man. There are so few around these days. They all think that being slaves is ok. I don’t . You want to take poison, ok, do it, you want to kiss government ass. ok, do it. But try and get me to do it, be armed.
Ask the Jews how many people are dying from the fucking shots. I never used to be profane yet now nothing else seems to fit. Ask the old Jews about yellow stars and VACCINE PASSPORTS. A world of idiots.

  4. I used to enjoy going to restaurants, but now I’m not allowed to anymore because I have refused to be injected. Turns out my cooking is pretty good, and a lot cheaper.

    1. Quite right. Have the means to eat out at least once or twice a week. You don’t want my business?
Fine, I never go where I’m not wanted.

      1. DoublePLUS good! Home cooking is more nutritious, cheaper, and, we don’t have to dress up! And agreed, you don’t want my money? Fine, and eff you restaurant industry!

There have been too many restaurants around, I’ve considered that any economic disruption would thin the herd eventually, though an “epidemic” wasn’t on my list of causes before. It was more along the high cost of staff starting at $15/hr being the tipping point, but, doesn’t matter now.

The bonus answer, is that the BC restaurant industry ASKED for the restrictions! Stupid is as stupid does!

I hope Ian Tostenson’s restaurant is the first to go bankrupt!

  5. And more important there isn’t a real global food shortage yet but there will be and sooner rather than later. Then all the folks who are dependent on food giveaways from the Ag exporters are gonna be in big trouble. Not to mention Food Stamp Mama.

  6. Well, since I’m prohibited from dining in restaurants, this doesn’t affect me at all, so WGAF! Let these fascist restaurateurs demanding proof of vax suffer! They wanted this. Let them have it!

  7. Just get a fake card, or better yet, start a business making them. This is a war about freedom and lies from government officials.

Although I have taken the vax, my reasoning was that something will get me, as I am an elder. I want the ticket to travel.

    1. Fake card will only take you so far.
.Gov knows there will be cheating and asked Gates to develop a smart dye marker to be injected with the jab.
Since THEY will be giving a jab every 6 months for life , this can be incorporated fairly quickly into the mix.
Coupled with a data bank on demand to actively check status , we be boned unless we can find a corrupt doctor to fake the Jabba, jabba.
Going to require a lot of BakShesh.
Eventually even that will Peter out as things shift to a .Gov clinic or mass vax centre.
Add to that .gov snitch lines and active surveillance of what you say and do on the Net and outside.

Going to be some interesting times trying to dodge these Megalomaniacs.

  8. Let’s see…
    (a) Restaurants? Didn’t do ’em before the Whoflu. I’m a way better chef than most professionals out there.
    (b) Cinema? Didn’t go before the Whoful because I stopped consuming Hollyweird crap years ago.
    (c) Concerts & events? Didn’t go before the Whoflu because I my hearing was damaged during my time in the army. Can’t stand being in noisy places
    (d) Stores? I get my meat, veg & milk delivered from local farms; I get my gin and rye delivered from a local distillery. I buy most of my durable items online
    (e) Travel? That’s the only thing causing me a bit of heartburn because the wife and I are both retired and routinely take a few trips a year to go scuba diving down south. But if the option is jab or no travel, I’ll take no travel.

So I’m pretty close to having gone Galt already. I’ll just sit back and watch the !vaxx mandates choke off what’s left of the service sector.

    1. High Fives there, on the same bus as you my friend.

I can outlast them and their ‘restrictions’, while I can list other reasons to add, the result is the same.

  9. My wife and I are more or less health and exercise nuts. As such, we have few actual “vices”, but we do enjoy going out to eat.
We’re both pretty decent cooks, and we like to get ideas from dishes we see and try out at restaurants. Since all this China virus nonsense started, I can’t even remember when the last time was that we dined out. Sure, I feel bad for some restaurant owners, but anyone willing to violate my rights and enquire about my health isn’t going to get much sympathy.

My company is now asking employees to reveal their “vaccine” status, with a 200 dollar incentive to do so if they are “vaxxed”. Frankly, I can’t wait to tell them to stick their 200 dollar incentive up their butts, because everyone at work already knows the next step will be a stick instead of a carrot. 200 dollars? Seriously? Is that what you think my health is worth to me? Newsflash – I wouldn’t take your experimental jab for 20 times that. Like many other companies, my employer is engaging in a desperate game of “chicken”; they can’t find technicians and they’re worried that the ones they have currently are going to walk. Guess what morons – a lot of them are already finding other jobs.

    1. Ask them what steps they are taking to protect your health privacy at work, and how they intend to comply with the various laws and regulations for the protection of personal health information now that they have decided they need to collect that information. Request that they provide a full presentation to all staff about how they intend to insure that no private health information will be used for an improper purpose.

they want to do it, make it cost the company lots of money

  10. It’s beyond restaurant workers and supply issues.

Have Canada’s great and omniscient computer modelers projected what the unemployment rate will be if 25%, 50%, 75% of unvaccinated staff refuse to be vaccinated and are forced into unemployment? How’s that going to affect the economy and social unrest? Has any journalist asked those questions?

I think it’s kind of important to know if a sudden, large jump in unemployment will cause bigger deficits or a market crash as people are forced to cash in RRSPs/other investments and drastically reduce spendiing. What about the effect on the housing market if previously well-off middle class families need to quickly sell houses they can no longer afford?

And, will those who have nothing left to lose become very angry causing a further increase in domestic violence, higher addiction rates and even more suicides than what happened during lockdowns? Or perhaps a more dramatic type of social unrest?

      1. Should have specified I was talking about all employer vaccine mandates from private industry, education, health care and various levels of government. Those unemployment numbers could add up to some pretty big totals, I’d think.

  11. This is interesting.
In Vancouver we lepers who have rejected the EBA (experimental biological agent) are facing EBA passport requirement on Sep 13.
The only impact for me is dining out, which my wife and I do at least once a week.
I said to myself, ‘Quit whining MND do something’. So I started putting an email together for the Food and Restaurant Association only to learn that they had lobbied the BC Gubmint advocating the passport. I’ve been thinking that they may end up regretting this action. I can’t see people this fearful rushing out to a restaurant as perhaps they may see the passport as an even greater fear trigger.

I’m wondering if Bonnie Nazi will cancel the passport mandate. Or, to avoid admitting error, postpone it.

    1. MND, if you think about it, Bonnie Nazi and her cult are ALL IN with their jab of mRNA as THE solution to fix everything.

Let them have their way for now, seriously. We, the clean, will be isolated from the jabbed and unhealthy, as we see elsewhere in the world, the jabbed are the ones getting sick, ill and ending up in hospital as the jab wears off, and, as predicted by Malone, GVB and Zelenko, the dose leaves the jabbed more vulnerable with a higher viral load than you and me.

This is a slow moving disaster for the jabbed sheeple, who have allowed themselves to be manipulated!

I can outlast these Nazis, we all need to, the restrictions are designed to manipulate the youths, look at what has been targeted for restrictions, it’s clear

  12. aaaaaah…….maybe I dreamed it all, but my #1 gal and I went to a restaurant last night. Fortunately we had a reservation, because the place was sold out. By the time we left, there were people lined up out into the parking lot, waiting to get in.

Nobody asked either of us for certification.

    Just sayin’…

  13. Allegedly the stragglers are lining to get the shot, I hear, rather than being unable to go to a bar or restaurant. In my country, I spent far too much of my hard earned dollars eating out. Wife and I are now buying and restoring old furniture. Rewarding, remunerative, and way more relaxing.

I always had hermit tendencies. No mandates yet where we are, but lockdowns changed everything for us. We spend more time reading our Bibles, and homeschooling the kids. We are LARPing the Great Depression, and having a blast doing it!

Once you rip 200-300 a mth out of your entertainment budget (not to mention wasted time!) and redirect, watch how peaceful and wonderful life becomes!

Sell your place in the city, buy a place for cash upcountry, and semi-retire.

  14. Meh. Any business enforcing the vaxx passport scheme deserves to croak and its owners to end up broke, homeless and hungry. Frack ’em. I can live my life comfortably without ever setting foot in a retail space again. Besides, most restaurants serve unhealthy garbage. Their demise would be a positive development.
