When you see this kind of unabashed cheerleading for the newest entitlement fad in the Financial Post, it may be a sign that total societal collapse is not far off.
As any parent can attest, it costs an enormous sum to raise a child. When that cost can be forced onto the hapless group known as “others”, it would be insane to argue that this unfettered parasitism constitutes an economic boost.
Trudeau on Aug. 5 joined Quebec Premier François Legault and a carefully selected group of children and guardians in a Montreal park to announce that Quebec would be getting $6 billion over five years, the province’s share of the $30 billion that Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland pledged in her latest budget for a program that would give parents access to $10-per-day child care within five years. She said it had the potential to provide an economic boost on par with the North American Free Trade Agreement. There’s little reason to doubt the claim.

And budgets will balance themselves (while the Liberals print money at an unprecedented rate to buy votes because their policies are mindless drivel and drive the Bananadian Peso further into the pit beneath the outhouse).
I think that should be Banadians Bananada Banadians
the deficit and debt will mean the little darlings will pay for themselves . forever
Yup. Oh, and have you noticed their tattooed parents!?
Most kids don’t even yet realize that they are getting screwed by their own pathetic excuses for parents.
I see it daily. Parents glued to smart phones, begrudging their children’s attempts to be noticed, let alone loved.
Parents, who demand CERB, rife with expensive sleeves full of bad tattoos, barking shit at their kids that make me despair.
This is anecdotal, but real. I have a unique purview to back my points, as I live at the entrance to a regional park, wherein I observe said dysfunction on a daily basis.
I could elaborate, but I trust you get the point.
Manitoba has also signed on to the taxpayer funded babysitting service.
And as always, the words of the prophets are in the comments. And as Cal2 pointed out…the brats will pay for it later but i’m sure by then we’ll be a UN protectorate, where no one owns jack shit. But hey, we’ll be so much happier.
Why Not. The Eloi have outsourced all other adult responsibilities to the state. Surely you don’t expect parents to be responsible for the care of their children while they both work for the privilege of paying taxes. The state protects us, educates us, provides our health care, our security, our old age benefits, our culture, our news, and the enlightened leadership of our beloved Spawn. All hail the state and our leader. Seig Heil, Seig Heil, Seig Heil………..
Just furthering the war on families agenda. Further proof that modern liberal voters cannot differentiate between real community and their government networks.

Medical experiments sounds like fun…splendid here was Revenue Canada’s suggestion to me back in a letter dated September 17,2003:
“For the purposes of the disability amount, Iife-sustaining therapy is any
treatment for a disease or disorder that, if withheld would prevent the
functioning of one or a group of vital organs essential to sustain human life.”
Of course if I withheld INSULIN from my then underage TYPE I insulin dependent son he would have been dead in less than 72 hours. All brought to you by the wonderful land of Dr Banting and Dr Best.
Terrific lets play full on NAZI on Her Majesty’s stationary; what could go possibly go wrong other than murdering your own children?
And of course these batshit crazy morons write this to a guy with an obvious german background name! 🙂
Sure let me ring up Dr Josef Mengele; he’d be sure to pick up for this endeavour…!
I managed to fax the Federal Court of Appeal with a picture of my grandfather in Luftwaffe uniform and suggested:
“Anytime you need to experience a group of vital organs failing just let us know!”
We are led and governed by COMPLETE IDIOTS!
And don’t get me started on how much the government CARES about dead indigenous children from the last century.
Cheers

There are still benefits to being Lutheran, eh, BA?
Quebec is the Tutsi minority and we are the subservient Hutu majority.
The ROC is being financially raped in an economic genocide. “Quebec’s …economy, which was once a basket case, but now ranks among the country’s strongest”. Due to taxpayer funded daycare? No, as per the comments “roughly 1 out of every 6 dollars the province of Quebec claims as revenue is taxpayer funded from the rest of Canada.” Economic miracle? More like unsustainable blackmail.
We should be separating from Quebec, not the other way around. If the ROC separated from Quebec, we’d be more likely to elect fiscally responsible federal governments with greater economic freedoms. The result would NOT be “an economic boost on par with the North American Free Trade Agreement”. It would far exceed it.
Yes, and don’t forget that in response to forcing us to take their dairy products, they refuse to allow an LNG export terminal that would sell western gas. How about a ROC referendum demanding that we leave Quebec and that they have to keep the Spawn with them. To dream. Vive le Quebec libre!
John – But we keep the St Lawrence Seaway… And we build Energy East.
Try ‘Vive le Canada Libre!’ Pisses their ‘nationalists’ off most satisfactorily. Still say we were the ones that lost the separation referendum.
If not a ROC separation, we can withdraw from their milk board and set up a western board charged at stopping Quebec milk at the Manitoba border. and about that unscheduled gas line outage happening over the xmass break – oops!
french colonial shithole… with the minority in charge…just like Rawanda.
Remember, making a minority group the rulers of the country for no other reason then because Peeair said so is how Canada became a, “just society”.
“This country it belongs to us ” Juthtin the Turdhole. Yes Juthtin, that is how your mentally deranged Father set it up, franco minority in charge.
Truly, the 1976 separation referendum was a wasted opportunity: for Canada…
Am I missing something? Do most women really think universal daycare is a good idea? If it comes about, there will be a large demand for people to work in daycare, in what will inevitably be a low-skill, low-pay job. Who will fill these positions? With the exception of a few nancy-boys, it will be young women who come from the lower end of the economic spectrum. We will be back to the 19th century, where, for most young women, the main career option is looking after someone else’s children. Or, is that the plan?
of course it’s the plan…
and of course all of these new positions will require a degree in Early Childhood Education, at an untold opportunity cost.
Just wait till they unionize
Just wait till they all get taxpayer funded “pensions”.
Nothing prevents the Provinces from instituting a daycare program. Quebec can run one on Alberta’s money. Go Green, Go Broke. There’s no money left to pay a National ‘pipe-dream’.
Maybe the children will pay for themselves”
Why not? I had to.
My old man helped me out with a few hundred bucks a couple of times, more than I did for him. I miss him.
I hear that, yeahwell.
In my case it was my ma.
Miss her, too.
Letting women into the workplace and letting them vote was a violation of our more basic duty to protect them. Now they’re out in the world, helping to run it, especially in the west and the anglo-sphere, and look. There is a reason why we didn’t let them handle big, dangerous, power tools like chainsaws, but for some reason we let them near a nuclear arsenal. It’s mind-boggling.
“[Freeland] said it had the potential to provide an economic boost on par with the North American Free Trade Agreement.”
I’m old enough to remember when the Liberals said NAFTA was a disaster (but then Chretien signed it anyway). We’ll have to see what ‘economic boost’ means.
It was OK when Canada actually had a bit of industry to protect from cheap labor, but now, they have no excuse, there are no Canadian companies that compete with China anymore, nothing to protect, and an enemy in the PM’s seat ain’t helping. Let us buy cheap stuff until they let us build it, then we can boycott China. Stopping them from accessing our market hurts us, them stopping us from accessing their markets hurts them a bit less.
A good negotiator (like Trump) could have made a GREAT deal, Canadian leaders, not so much.
Our enemies are domestic, more than foreign.
“Affordable” means “subsidized” but that takes the focus off the recipient and back to the payer…so not so politically palatable.
Well, there is a unilateral declaration of independence. Or you shut up and open your wallet.
#WEXIT
or stop complaining
Gotta be able to walk the streets with a rifle before wexit can happen, at least for a little while.
The collective You don’t have the balls.
“Buffalo Party understands there are far more dangerous gases to the environment than Co2. The fact is the Federal Government has its focus on Co2 and a taxation revenue plan, not an emissions plan. Buffalo Party believe a smart emissions plan is the only realistic solution to decrease Co2, and other more harmful gases.”
Oh great. The Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan has an “emissions plan”. Failed before they even began; what would be the point of voting for their emissions plan, over the NDP’s emissions plan, over the Liberal’s emissions plan, over the Sask Party’s emissions plan, over the Green Party’s emissions plan, …
More plans, more bureaucrats, more taxes, less freedom.
Come now, its a 5 year plan, the people love those!
Love of freedom: Exists.
Western…society: Hates it.
The most pure at heart hate it of you visit Cuba, and refuse to look in the mirror.
And the wait, for someone or something different, goes on. An endless procession of “more of the same” my entire life so far. The one guy who may actually be different on the federal scene, Maxime Bernier, taken out before he even started by Quebec Derangement Syndrome. Fools who would cut off their own nose to spite their faces.
Harris may have been the closest Canada ever came, to a fundamentally different leader. Possibly Deifenbaker, but he was before my time.
Who needs childcare in the future? The double jabbed will be sterile, non?
…and if one of these…unfortunate events…should happen, the state can be trusted with them…to make a profit, as quickly as possible. Too bad money is the best we can do, cause it’s real, all the utopias are not. Believe it or not, some folk think riding a bike is unethical.
Nothing new. Take the children away from the parents to indoctrinate them. The regular school system doesn’t start them young enough.

With what money?
Albertan money? Printed money?
It’s another pipe dream and broken promise for parents with no or little employment and their marriage-savers who must mask up even if they can’t breathe.
I see our neighbor to the North is trying to keep up with the Jones’es, err, Americans …

Dementia Joe Biden-Heiress is forcing The Village to raise America’s children. And soon their 4-years of college indoctrination will be “free” too.
Reality is that, given today’s tax regimen, it is extremely difficult for a family to exist on one pay cheque. It wasn’t great back in the day when we did it, but we managed. As I recall, back then when one actually had a deduction for each child, I calculated that a single-earner family (gross income $40,000) would have to have something like 14 children to lower the income tax to be the same as a couple each earning $20,000. And I pointed out that the couple could each be working half-time at one job, so no extra “work” was necessarily done.
The quickest and easiest way to help families who must use childcare of some sort would be to raise the limit. Right now, for the “ordinary” kid born 2014 or later (I’m talking 2020 tax return; it will be 2015 or later), it’s $8,000; for kids born 2004 – 2013, it’s $5,000. That’s way low; so raise the rates. Also, since it’s the lower income earner who gets the deduction, raise the deduction from 2/3 or net income to 3/4; this will help families who absolutely have to have two people working but are really struggling. Another idea would be to let the higher income person take the deduction (within limits) as this could potentially give a family more back.
Yes, more rules, more volumes of the tax code, more bureaucrats, more deductions, more government. What an elegant solution! More government, and more regulation, will solve all our problems!
Only 45,000 more pages added to the tax code, and utopia! What could possibly go wrong?
I don’t think this idea takes into consideration the extensive changes brought about by
“work from home” arrangements. I live near a tech park, and parking lots are empty, while businesses continue to operate. While a working from home mom or dad might value an occasional sitter, trudging a kid off to day care in the middle of winter when you will be at home does not make a lot of sense. I suspect that work ftom home has cut the need for daycare by 25 to 33%.
You’re welcome, from Alberta. Please, harder next time.
The government, having made it almost impossible to raise a family on a single income, is now saving the day by providing dual-income families with ‘free’ daycare. LOL. And all the provinces will line up like pigs at the trough…..
