As I see it, there existed a compact between the rulers and the ruled: The rulers would protect us from foreign invasion, and protect us from outright banditry, and in return for that protection, we would pay taxes and/or go to war for them. Our current crop of rulers has blatantly violated that compact, and are no longer legitimate, democratic mandate or not.
When that guy shot up the HoP a while back, didn’t the RCMP say they took his passport but couldn’t afford to surveille him? That basically means “we wouldn’t let him leave the country, and instead let him run around to do whatever he likes.”
