Netanyahu Loses Office

From the divisive NYT;

The long and divisive reign of Benjamin Netanyahu, the dominant Israeli politician of the past generation, officially ended on Sunday, at least for the time being, as the country’s Parliament gave its vote of confidence to a precarious coalition government stitched together by widely disparate anti-Netanyahu forces.

Israel’s Parliament, the Knesset, approved the new government by just a single vote — 60 to 59, with one abstention.

After his supporters cheered the announcement of his election, Naftali Bennett then exchanged a brief handshake with Mr. Netanyahu before walking to the rostrum at the front of the parliamentary chamber and taking the oath of office as prime minister.

Yair Lapid, a centrist leader, is set to take Mr. Bennett’s place after two years, if their government can hold together that long.

  1. The Israelis have scr**** themselves royally. . . . Join the club fellas, misery loves company.

  2. It’s a pizza Parliament; it’ll collapse relatively quickly, or be gamed by the various factions into utter inaction.  Unlike Belgium’s nonsense, Israel faces actual threats, and such a governing coalition will encounter wide disillusion from the public.

My over/under on when it falls apart is “end of 2021, latest.”  What will come after that, I have no idea.

      1. Things fall apart, the centrist cannot hold?

I don’t see this ending well.

        1. “Things fall apart, the centrist cannot hold?”

I saw what you did there, Mr. Yeats.

        2. “Yair Lapid, a centrist leader,….”
If Lapid is a centrist, so is Nancy Pelosi and Justin Trudeau..
Only from the Economic/Cultural Marxist perspective is Lapid a centrist.

    1. The 36th Government of Israel (June 13, 2021 to ???):

Yesh Atid Party (secular social liberalism, two-state solution) 17 seats (16 gov’t +1 Speaker)
Blue & White Party (liberalism, centrist, undivided Israel) 8 seats
Yamina Party (conservatism, party divided into religious & secular factions) 7 seats (incl. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett)
Labor Party (social democrat, Zionism, two-state solution) 7 seats
Yisrael Beiteinu (Russian immigrants, secular nationalism, right-wing) 7 seats
New Hope (right-wing nationalist) 6 seats
Meretz (progressive, green, feminist, social democrat, two-state solution) 6 seats
United Arab List (Islamist, social conservatives, two-state solution) 4 seats

      Coalition government: 61 seats
      Opposition: 59 seats

Sounds like a perfectly stable, long-term coalition. LOL. The only reason for this monstrosity to exist is to make sure Netanyahu goes to trial for election violations.

  3. Israel can only be successfully governed by someone with a whip in their hand. You can’t give an inch to your neighbors or next thing you’re swimming in the Mediterranean. Arabs perceive compromise as weakness.

  4. What precisely was Bibi not doing correctly or for the benefit and protection of Israel? Seems he got stabbed in the face by his own party.

    1. What didn’t he do?……Make peace and compromise with the enemy.

There is no compromise with Hamas, but, the left, despite the obvious, seems to think it is still possible without any ramifications. All it will take sis a massive attack against Israel, and A lack of response to it, to change the mindset of Israel.

That or get wiped off the map. People seem to think Hamas and Iran are just being rhetorical. Their actions speak otherwise.

Bibi is exactly what Israel needs, just like Trump is what America needs. But truth and blunt honesty seems to be viewed with disdain in this era, the public prefers sweet and gentle lies and puffery instead.

      1. There is no compromise with Islam – only postponement or defeat. Why in Heaven’s name do Western Civilized nations pander to Muslims who brazenly demonstrate their contempt for infidels everywhere and always? We live in strange times; God help us.

    2. Precisely… this new coalition are going to first compromise with, then concede to Hamas. They’re leftists nearly to a man, they’re squishy appeasers, and I predict Israel will be overrun and destroyed.

Expect attacks against Israel to greatly increase, and retaliation against those attacks to plummet.

    3. Netanyahu is facing a criminal trial on bribery, fraud and corruption charges. This coalition government is to exist just long enough to make sure the trial takes place. “Bibi” has a lot of political enemies (even some in his own party) and they want to finally take him down. He has used thirteen of his nine lives (politically speaking) yet somehow finds a way to survive. The “West” will be worse off without him.

  5. In my weekly phone call with “my brother from another mother”, he was railing against all Canadians who are entitled. He claims it began about the time we were born (1952) – he has a very “low” opinion of baby boomers and their offspring. His gist (and I agree with him) is that there is a large majority of Canadians who expect the government to provide them with everything and that they are incapable of providing for themselves and therefore are willing to give up their autonomy for “free stuff”, which as we all know, is not free.

    1. Well … sorry to say, I was born in 1952.

Immigrant family (Holland), Raised with the constant threat of a backhand should i stray from “the path”….or a wooden spoon on the knuckles at the dinner table. MANNERS strictly enforced, including table ones, “Don’t chew with your mouth open .!!” “Don’t talk with food in yer mouth etc..!! Ad nausea for 19 yrs – (then joined the Military)….but, for the most part it ALL took.

Fast 4ward….2 daughters 27 & 30. Both raised in similar fashion and now after seeing the Gross error of their voting ways (NOTLEY – NDP a few yrs back). now staunch Conservative women.

There be NO ENTITLEMENT in this Family…nor has there ever been…just a desire to have Govt get the FUCK outa our lives.

Only thing I personally will demand “ENTITLEMENT” to…??? is a front Row seat at NUREMBERG.

      1. It’s all front row seats at the 3 ring circus to the biggest shit show in history.

George Carlin told me, even though he was a libtard, I’d believe him over any garbage politicians.

      2. Right on Steakman, only the backhand wasn’t just a threat, 57 Dodge wagon, dad could reach any or all five of us in the back. Threaten my grandkids with a backhand all the time, never follow through tho!

  6. Weird as it is I’ve never worried too much about Israel…been there since 1948 and they aren’t going anywhere. Historically when the SHTF it seems all the right people step up to the plate. They take all comers and there are far too many badasses working behind the scenes who aren’t about to let it go down the toilet without a fight regardless of who’s PM. BTW…Bennet is far right, so take that for what it’s worth.
Personally I think Benji will be back at some point.

    1. My first thought on this was Winston Churchill and the Wilderness Years where he was kept out of government for his war-mongering views on the dangers of a re-militarized Germany and that reasonable fellow Adolf Hitler. I just hope Netanyahu sticks around, given that the appeasers and the collaborationists aren’t even pretending their aims are peaceful, I’d give it about 6 months before Israel realizes it has made a big mistake.

      1. I just read he’ll be the leader of the opposition. He doesn’t appear to be going anywhere.

  7. FWIW Steve Pieczenik holds that Bibi is far too corrupt to be a good leader.
Competence is important, but corrupt corrodes completely.

    1. Steve is an idiot if he thinks Netanyahu is corrupt.
The big case against Bibi was the submarine case. He was absolved.
The next biggie was that he got champagne and cigars from donors. Wow!! That is just huge.
The last one was when he asked a Left Wing Newspaper to not be so nasty to him. Wow!! That is so earth shattering.
Oh, please Steve, go the F away.

  8. When you have a dozen parties or, like Canada, six or seven, this is what happens. Elections every few months that solve nothing. Chaos. I used to think the US system was so much better. However, in the US, only one party has to steal an election.
