Ketchup, Grape Nuts and microchips, oh my.
Ketchup is the next COVID-19-related shortage.
Not the bottled variety as much as the small individual packages restaurants give with pickup, takeout and delivery orders.
And it’s hitting America’s most popular brand, Heinz, with shortages at chains like Long John Silver’s and Texas Roadhouse, The Wall Street Journal reported.
In Communist USSR a common joke was to say “ if you need milk, go get it from the radio because the radio says there is an abundance of milk.”
Shouldn’t everyone carry a bottle of “hot sauce” in their purse … like SHE does?
It’s only a supply chain crisis because it affects John “Mr. Heinz” Kerry’s revenue.
Good. I hope he loses a shitload of money over this.
A friend is currently building a new house. Last fall, he priced out all the rebar at $9000. He did not order it at the time after making the assumption that the price would not be that much different by spring. Turns out, the assumption was wrong. The same amount of rebar is now $19,000.
Costco has skids of 1Lx2 bottles of ketchup available, even if you are ordering take-out you can get it yourself, or the restaurant can provide you one of the small containers, rather than in a packet.
To be absolutely nitpicky….

Are “pickup” and “takeout” not the exact same thing? And, they failed to mention the massive “dine-in” usage for fast-food outlets in this little ‘list’.
Like I said, nitpicky, but as as a former restaurant owner(and someone who enjoys heckling today’s unprofessional media) it stuck in my craw.
I got a phone call this morning from a large civil construction company I work with requesting some work be put on hold. They do big stuff, master planned community utilities (underground – water, sanitary and storm sewers).
“My pipe supplier has just informed me that he is officially out of PVC and isn’t expecting any for a month, or more”.
This isn’t your Home Depot type of PVC. This is the big stuff.
Turns out, there is a PVC shortage I was unaware of. Due to the insane cold weather experienced in Southeast Texas.
