    2. As an Albertan I encourage the American’s to Obey Gaiia First and always. The water spirits are angry they do not like the line 5 pipeline it must stay closed.
      Follow the science the First Immigrants and Turtle Island. The Tap Dancing Farting Dwarfs of Turtle Island are upset. They have spoken to the Elders of the First Immigrants and it must stay down.
      For my own opinion. Fuck’em hard. Leave it completely shut down and never reopen it again.
      Let it be a first step in giving the east a lesson in Net Zero. Let the farmers harness the bed wetters to their John Deere Tractors to plow their fields. Let their women learn to chew hides to soften them for moccasins without Alberta’s Black Magic Goo.
      The CPC and 53% of eastern Canadians all support Net Zero and the Liberals and the Paris Accord and Carbon Taxes etc.
      Fine Alberta needs to boycott line 5 and boycott all going west to BC as well.

    3. That pipeline will run below ground, through a solid rock tunnel, ffs! There are no “powerful, rapidly changing currents”, unless you’re passing another ore/grain carrier, close by. I’ve sailed all the Lakes in a (gasp!) oil tanker, ready to sink, catch fire, or explode on a moments notice according to these whack jobs. Well, we did shut down loading/unloading during thunderstorms. The real danger on the lakes are bottles of white lightning! Where do you think St Elmo’s Fire comes from?

    1. There are lots of good people in East of the Manitoba/Ontario border (even in Quebec!) but unfortunately, they are far outnumbered by a class of people that are so myopic and can only see “what’s in it for them”

      A New Dominion would welcome people that believe in freedom, equality and respect. I propose a swap; we can send our worthless leaches east (Lord knows we have our fair share too) and people of good will can come West. I’ll take that trade

    2. So, a bit of bad news about that. Toronto gets about 40% of its natural gas from Alberta. The rest comes from the US. It looks like Ottawa gets its natural gas from a pipeline that stays inside Canada so it won’t be affected. It looks like the people who will mostly be affected are those who voted Conservative last election.

      The only good news is that Toronto gets it’s gasoline from Alberta oil. The bad news is that so do all those Alberta supporters in rural southern Ontario.

      I wish the Premiere’s of Ontario, Manatoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta would get together and build pipelines using the notwithstanding clause.

    Then there are the people in Ohio and Pennsylvania who might want her hanged and drawn and quartered.

  9. Kenney should put a 100% carbon tax on any product entering Line 5 and Enbridge can pass it on to the end consumer.

  15. Ontario needs to experience the effects of relying on a single (US) market and transportation for it’s economic wellbeing. Maybe the Feds could approve an all Canadian pipeline through Northern Ontario and or rely on Oil by rail until approved and constructed.

    Team sock monkey has bet the farm on out flanking the other grievance parties by going all in on the climate shakedown without consideration to what happens when it effects the folks in the MTV archipelago.
    Now they are looking at being outflanked because if the pipeline gets shut down it effects mostly liberal held ridings economically and if they convince the governor of Michigan to recant they lose progressive points to the greens and the NDP.
    The other niggling problem is Witless is staring down the same problem that in order to retain that progressive halo she has to destroy the livelihood of a great many people. People that would become one issue voters.
    And yes, it’s just a political decision to team sock monkey because budgets will just balance themselves something something yadda yadda yadda. The hesitation is reflective of a nervous caucus that needs convincing prior to a predetermined decision.

    1. Bullstink. Where do they get the jet fuel to fly to Tofino and surf? Or ski boat in Muskoka? The west supplies ALL the fuel, especially on the back haul. Propane, too. You can quibble on who supplies what east of Montreal. Sarnia shuts down, Tronna, Ottywah and a goodly chunk of Moan Real will learn to walk….everywhere. And think of winter.
      I wouldn’t shed a tear. Forgeddaboudit on Equalization and stupid “carbon taxes”. Commie Tax.

          They fly, drive, ship and fuel industry on diesel and jet fuel (slightly more refined diesel) and gasoline, more than natural gas. That’s just their water tanks and heating, not insignificant in itself. Outside the Southern Ontario area it’s propane, shipped all the way from the west. Personally, I don’t give a damn at this point. They want to go up to Muskoka, to the Kaybec side, Huron Shores, or out to Picton to sip wine, they drive or fuel their BBQ’s with propane. Cut the the fuel supply, Ontario shuts down. That simple. Sarnia is the last spike on refining in Ontario. All the smaller refining capacity has shut down over the years. I used to live in Port Credit and was involved in petroleum from the Maritimes to BC and points in between for 50 years.
          What’s that saying? An army marches on it’s belly? Society runs on petroleum these days. Wind, solar and biomass won’t keep the wolves from the door….ever. Nuclear might, but that’s racisss.

  21. Canada must unify the country, get sh!t built and give fair representation to all regions or the west should leave. I’m going all in on supporting the Maverick party this next election. I hope line 5 is canceled and forces Canada to get moving on proper inter provincial cooperation. The status quo is a joke for westerners already.

    3. You slap tongs or lift slips, spin chain in the past, or spent a shift up “the stick” at -30 C and a wind for a 12 hour shift, you’d earn that pay believe me. You wouldn’t last an hour to drill up the stuff that drives industry and heats your home. Might put an eye out, or break a nail.

    I am praying that Gov Wit-less shuts down Line 5. Still lots of cold weather to come – do it now – while it still has significance!

  24. I propose they harness and enslave unicorns and hitch them to oil wagons to haul said oil the long way around the lakes. The unicorn farts will protect the wagons from damage and explosions (sort of an inert gas, but a smelly one) and they can have fairies prancing ahead of the unicorn teams spreading fairy dust to bless the journey.

    The above might solve the greenies angst, and it makes as much sense as anything else these days. Of course, we should consult Greta first.

As a Michigander living 50 miles south of the straits who has read Atlas Shrugged, I’d (kinda) like Enbridge to roll over and say “Oh… OK” in May, shut down Line 5 (and plug the stretch under the straits with drilling mud), use force majeure to cancel their supply contracts, and watch the propane (home heating), jet fuel, etc. supply “chains” morph into overcooked spaghetti. If Enbridge fights back, it’s a good campaign issue for Whitmer – if they don’t, it goes the other way…

    1. My preference is cement. Make Michigan pay to drill it out. Talk about shooting one’s foot. Ohio and Michigan might have to go shopping for fuel and we out here kill two birds with one stone. The arrogant “Engine of Confederation” would stall out and Kaybec runs out of cash flow from Equalization. Bite me, Witmer, shut it down, a sort of “make my day” issue..
