I would have just asked them for their ID, photocopied it while they waited outside and asked them if they were looking for donations. Otherwise no chit chat. Good point,they do have to show you a badge number or ID of some type.. In my younger days if the RCMP were suspicious of my activity because I had long hair and a beard and I often walked down the street after dark in that condition, they would occasionally accost me and ask for ID, so I would show it to them,then whip out my pen and notebook and take down their badge number or name tag, whichever was more visible. They didn’t like that but it caused them to drop the aggressive attitude right quickly.
