Canada seeking reassurance as Europe mulls export controls on COVID-19 vaccines
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he remains confident in Canada’s vaccine supplies despite threats from Europe that it might impose export controls on vaccines produced on that continent.
Speaking to reporters outside his Ottawa residence Tuesday morning, Trudeau said the situation in Europe is worrisome but he is “very confident” Canada is going to get all the COVID-19 vaccine doses promised by the end of March. And despite the sharp decline in deliveries of a vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech this month, he said Canada will still vaccinate all Canadians who want shots by the end of September.

If the European union can force companies that reside in their territories to override contractual obligations then perhaps it’s time to ingnore those companies’ patent rights and begin manufacturing without compensation in Canada. Health care is a universal human right according to the UN don’t ya know. I’ve been told that we’re living under a state of emergency.
I’m not sure what all goes into setting up a vaccine manufacturing facility, but you’d think this should have been in the works in this country. Even if we had to get a licence to produce from moderna or Pfizer. And given the chicanery around many other drugs and antibiotics this stuff should also be being produced in Canada and Alberta as a matter of national security.
Unfortunately we are ruled by idiots that are elected and appointed by other idiots. Trudeau has demonstrated that being a weak kneed global bootlicker carries no weight.

Johnboy – apparently Canada does have vaccine manufacturing facilities which could have been re-tooled or modified to manufacture these vaccines. However, for some unfathomable reason, the NRC (same crowd that went for the Cansino deal) pushed for and got approval to build a new facility which is having the inevitable cost overruns and is way behind schedule.

My concern is the fact that we have a company here in Western Canada, Providence Therapeutics, that is already testing a new vaccine for Covid 19, yet Trudeau and Company were throwing billions at European and American suppliers instead of financing our own. Why were the feds not there to help Providence that has a facility in Calgary??
