Police are investigating the fatal conflagration of a Tesla Model X that killed its owner and injured two others in an underground parking garage in Seoul.
The Model X crashed into the wall of the parking garage of an apartment complex in Yongsan District, central Seoul, then caught fire, on Wednesday. This led to the burning death of the car’s owner, who was in the passenger seat.
The driver, who escaped with injuries, claimed “the car suddenly got out of control,” raising the possibility of a sudden unintended acceleration as the cause of the accident, according to police.
It is unusual for a car slowly winding its way through a parking garage to suddenly smash into a wall and result in the death of a passenger. The police will ask the National Forensic Service to try to determine the cause of the accident.

Ah crap, I hacked the wrong car.
With all these computer gadgets, technically, you could use the cameras and over ride the commands.
Pretty certain that Covid was the cause of death!
I’m curious — how do you reconcile:
(a) your (valid) criticism that the mainstream media’s obsessive focus on reporting new COVID-19 deaths on a daily basis is leading to distorted public perceptions and levels of fear,
with
(b) your own obsessive focus on posting about every instance that you come across of a fatality involving a Tesla or other autonomous driving-enabled vehicle?
I can answer that.
Our governments are imposing more laws and restrictions on us to buy poor technology while giving incentives to these same companies that have yet to make any profits as they use the system which is terrible technology.
Also, we have no proper recycling anymore in this throw away society.
Think this plastic with stickers on gets recycled?
Too costly.
I would reuse some if I could but this glue is too strong to properly clean the plastic.
Yes … because government bureaucrats are suspending my Civil Rights guaranteed by the constitution in order to “save me” from invisible evils: COVID and Global Warming. These bureaucrats (and Governors, like any-twosome Newsom) are eliminating ICE vehicles and demanding I buy an EV. Soon, they will mandate that only a computer drive my car, as human drivers are “too dangerous”. Federal, State, and County bureaucrats also mandate that I wear a mask, socially distance from everyone, and shut me in my home. They have canceled Thanksgiving, canceled Christmas, and scolded FREE citizens to NOT celebrate the New Year. All to “save us” from a virus that is immune (giggle) from bureaucratic declarations.
The connection is the illegal theft of our Constitutional Freedoms … which have gone so far as to CRUSH millions of citizens “Pursuit of Happiness”. The government overreach is illegal and immoral.
Here’s what I find “inconsistent” from these leftist bureaucrats who have cancelled our Constitutional Rights …
(a) They suspend our human rights to “save the lives” of the old and sick (COVID’s primary victims)
(b) … yet designed Obamakkare to withhold “end of life” medical care for old and chronically sick citizens. Answer that one for me … Doug.
Doug has left the building.
Haha, too good!
Yes, Kate. Is there a disproportionate amount of death in Tesla vehicles vs baseline auto deaths? You could answer your thesis once and for all just by sharing a legit source to back that up.
Or is it better to form opinions by tallying anecdotes in the media? Oh right, silly question. :p
Doug,
Seems like there is a disproportionate number electric cars going up in flames and these battery fires are hard to extinguish. How many parking garage “accidents” result in fire and death? And face it, Tesla (Musk) attracts both adulation and suspicion.
That’s actually Lame Brain aka UnMe posting.
I’ll see if I can find the article, but an auto industry magazine posted results a year or so ago that electric vehicles as a class have less car fires on average than ICE vehicles, but Teslas specifically have more.
Gas cars are also increasingly computer controlled drive by wire.
That’s why I own three vehicles from the 1990s and keep looking for older ones to replace them.
All I want is to build myself a buckboard for getting around town, but that’s too simple, cheap and reliable to be legal.
Well said Doug. Subsidies aside, one would think there are bigger concerns than what kind of vehicle someone drives.
Well Doug, I would consider the concern a proactive push to stop the already ongoing requirement in some other countries to force everyone to use electric vehicles. With luck we will not end up with the same distorted life situation that covid-19 has allowed the “powers that be” to impose on us.
The car, with it’s abundance of knowledge and self awareness, suddenly came to the conclusion: “Yes, that’s all there is.”
In a fit of blackness and grief, it killed itself against a concrete wall. It “accidentally” also took the life of it’s “owner”.
Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
I like it!
Snort, some real wit sortawitte!
New Tesla model, the “Westworld”.
The state, driven by green theology is in the process of legislating most of humanity off the road under the pretext that E-cars are environmentally superior, and might possibly be affordable to the masses when they get the bugs out. Both of those assumptions are tenuous as they involve the dead hand of government deceit and corporate rent seeking at every level. Green techno-biological serfs don’t “need” private automobiles, thus sayeth Archbishop Butts.
I don’t like tesla due to the over hyped nature and fan boy comments but this is likely to simply be a misapplication of the gas pedal ….ie the driver thought he was hitting the brake and hit the gas.
Surprisingly this happens a lot but notice how the claims of “unintended acceleration” have all disappeared with new cars all having enough computing horsepower to remember what pedals were being applied.
Tesla captures all the car data and so they will have an answer to which pedal the driver had floored and I bet it wasn’t the brake pedal.
If he meant to use the brake and accidentally hit the go pedal instead that is driver error but it still fits the description “unintended acceleration.”
That was the best explanation for those stories. Millions of times, back and forth, and just once…..
To be fair, it was a Korean driver.
Let me say that it is unconscionable that our Federal automobile bureaucrats have mandated a massive number of safety features be installed in automobiles … seat belts, shoulder harness, airbags, collapsing bumpers … yadda yadda yadda. Yet … allow a super high tech car to be manufactured with a massive touchscreen TV on its dashboard (the biggest distraction of driving ever installed in a motor vehicle) … and electronically controlled door locks that cannot be overridden in an accident and TRAP occupants who burn to death in an unstoppable battery fire. I cannot imagine a more horrible death … except maybe being skinned alive by Native Peoples out on the open Prairie.
How many Corvair crashes did it take for Ralph Nader to convince a screaming mob of mothers it was unsafe at any speed?
You would think he or one of his peers would have penned at least one missive by now.
OK, maybe it was a fault in the vehicle, but then maybe it was just that these two were on the outside of a couple of gallons of makgeolli.
Those damn falcon wing doors. That’s been one of the features that’s troubled Tesla for some time now at least from an engineering standpoint. Motorized, actuators, springs, sensors and a host of other hi tech features making it almost impossible to open in a car crash which in this case could’ve saved the owner’s life.
Poor bugger.
The wrong pedal theory is certainly plausible especially in the case of geezers. But if it’s driver error, at low speed in a underground parking garage, should the car explode and incinerate the owner.
And should a car spontaneously combust sitting in a home garage with no human on board.
Tesla gets a pass because it’s the darling of the state eco-nut champions who don’t want any skepticism of their massive subsidies.
…. Asians in general and S Koreans in particular are bad drivers. No racism or whatever, anyone who has lived among Asians can vouch for the large occurrence of auto accidents.
Everybody should own two of them, at least liberal socialists should.
This a variation on a post from about 2 years ago …. Tesla self driving car decides it’s owner needs some sushi https://abc7news.com/tesla-crashes-into-danville-sushi-restaurant/5188908/
L- Gasoline cars are to be banned by 2030-2035 in a growing number of jurisdictions.
Electric cars will be too expensive for the average person/family to afford. The masses are then restricted to mass public transport within their city.
The high income families or earners, e.i. two spouses working for the government directly or indirectly. They will be able to afford an electric car. Why would they care about the average or median income people anymore than they do now. After all, the streets would have much less traffic and without gasoline taxes to pay for the roads. It will be the public transport underclass whose tax burden will keep the roads up.
Additionally, you will have to have a “good” social credit score to be allowed to buy a government approved vehicle or even be allowed to use mass public transport. Those with bad social credit scores will be allowed to: walk, bicycle or ride a rickshaw.
*(the higher end electric cars will have a fireproof cab for the ultra rich, the lower end ones have a remote hackable immolation software activated button. It will be labeled “Deplorable”.
Under Marxism, every decision/policy is political. It’s guided by a single ultimate value, POWER.
Once you know that and agree completely, you qualify for Party Membership.
Larry, you just nailed it, the elites have been planning this shit for quite a while now!
Perhaps it will be like Cuba with the wealthy in their electric cars and the hoi polloi nursing along their ageing internal combustion cars. Will Trudeau do the woke thing and junk the priceless Mercedes 300SL he inherited from Pierre?
A City of Calgary contract safety instructor drove her car into a garage i was renting. I discovered that incident awaking from a sofa snooze when fire truck sirens stopped at my place and the first responders (not native) hacked at the garage doors with axes, etc
So glad Tesla is a niche product, limiting supply to drive demand, as well as high prices.
I’ll never have the mo-ney to buy one.
And who wants a used dead battery?
Yeah Doc, Too bad Government ain’t a niche product, cuz they’re the ones pushing that EV shit.
Now THIS is what I consider the “car of the future.”

Comes standard with the TESLA ENDING.
UnMe, any chance you were/are “lao” who used to troll over at Moonbattery.com?
It’s those damn 2009 Toyota floor mats, again!
I knew there were some of those still in existence. Available at some garage sales, probably!
