      My faith in Jell-O Kenney was severely damaged after the last federal election. Rather than using the results as a reason to start drawing up terms for withdrawing Alberta from Confederation, he did nothing.

      I regret to say that my vote for the UCP was wasted.

        1. It wouldn’t have matter for me who I voted for. I live in Red Rachel’s riding and I’m surrounded by Dippers, pro-CBCers, and anti-Trumpers.

          Once I’m done settling my father’s estate, I’m moving.

      2. I knew Kenny was a federalist from talking with him a few years back. He’s from the Presto school of ‘pressure release’ which caused the Alliance to be formed.

        Kenny and his ministers have been (charitably) underwhelming and we’ll probably end up back at NDP soon enough.

        I’m so disgusted with politics and politicians that I have a real dilemma, not just who to vote for but why bother to vote? I would prefer to vote for a party and leader whose policies interest me, not just the one team vs. the other team.

        They are all the same now and we end up with more taxation and less liberty.

    2. Today Jason Kenney repeated a stat that Dr Hinshaw has been using which is very misleading. The Dr says we have lost more people to covid than we lost to influenza in the last ten years. Except Long Care Centers DO NOT record death by influenza. Now how many people would know that that aren’t ‘in the know’? I just happened to tune in to Danielle’s show the other day and learnt it from her. Repeating that statistic is more than misleading, its dishonest.

        I was reminded about an interview with a doc that I heard back in Feb. he said that most doctors see one or two cases of flu in their career.

        The National flu numbers in the US are extrapolated based on models built on the comparatively few verified reports to the CDC.

        Models, models everywhere.

      1. I would like to know that also. A couple of weeks ago it was indicated that he was under tremendous pressure from bureaucrats, and feds. Does not surprise me that the feds would be involved. They are pursuing the globalist agenda and lockdowns are part of that. They probably are in a position to control Kenney through extortion, e.g. withholding funding for blah, blah, Alberta needs to separate. There will be some like- minded US states to join if Biden gets in,

      2. Here’s how I see it.

        Jason Kenney is a conservative ideologue. He is guided by conservative philosophy – freedom, liberty, personal responsibility, free speech, enterprise etc. Every one of these tenants has come under scrutiny once the public health emergency erupted. Government is responsible for the health of it’s citizens.

        Faced with ever increasing demands from public health to limit these very freedoms in the name of ‘doing the right thing’ and ‘the greater public good’, politicians who are not medical experts are painted into a corner. Kenney fought back. He admitted publicly that the shut down last spring was a mistake (when was the last time a politician admitted to a mistake). He vowed not to be railroaded into taking away personal freedom and allowing enterprise to be locked down.

        Fast forward to the fall when the virus reappeared. The medics play the only card they have – lock down. Kenney pushes back.
        The numbers go up exponentially and the medics ratchet up their game. Kenney resists. Red rachael sensing a political opportunity puts on her shit kickers, marshals up her public sector unionistas and launches a full attack on the government.

        In the face of a withering assult Kenney relents and moves the bar a bit. People are dying after all. And that is how we have arrived at the place we find ourselves at. Every conservative belief has been tested and thrown out the window in the name of the ‘greater public good’. Fiscal prudence – poof gone. Personal freedoms -poof. You name it, it’s been tossed to the curb.

        That’s the position Kenney and conservatism has found itself in. He was placed in a no win spot. If he held out he wouldn’t be premier right now. If you are seen as opposing public health advice in the middle of a health crisis your political career will be brief.
        Each one of us see a doctor for our health needs.

        I’m not sure what the future has for conservatives, maybe nothing.

        1. Ab, you might get flamed by your post here, but there is a lot of wisdom in you post. The Chinese-virus event hit all democracies, and as you say governments are tasked with protecting the public health. All governments have public health departments. Therefore government activity increases during the Chinese virus crisis. And as we with any serious virus spread governments make demands on its citizenry to obey rules.

          My conservatism is mostly rooted in Christian conservatism, whereby Christians are commanded to follow government rules governing everyday problems (see Jesus’s comments or Acts 8). What I take this to mean is that, in my daily life, I matter-of-factly obey the provincial government’s rules on the virus. For example, the hospital ordered me to get virus tested two weeks after my cancer operation, so I get tested. I wear a mask when entering a store, just to make at ease the minimum-wage worker serving me. When I take the dog for a walk, I social distance with others simply to be neighborly to that person, whereby much of the time a person will pet the dog on his six-foot leash and start a conversation.

          So my conservatism is rooted in local community cooperation. I understand pure libertarian arguments presented on the SDA boards (and one of my favorite writers is the NP’s Terrance Cocorran), but I reject arguments in favor of noncooperation here. Obviously we should attack government and media overkill (see my post below in this thread on the CBC). And obviously we should attack establishment corruption governing the virus. Establishment Canada is corrupt, after all.

          To answer Ab’s question at the end, conservatives can do two things now. First, we can organize grassroots groups and financially support alternative independent media, like SDA. Second, we wait for the sharp rise in inflation and the attendant rise in interest rates, and the accompanying rise in bankruptcies. The dominant elites will be responsible for the coming economic crisis. Watch for it.

          “Dr Modry is bang on. The politicians have overestimated COVID 19. They didn’t want Health care systems overwhelmed with dying patients so they shut down society and everyday activities. Their estimate was in fact incorrect. With false positives up to 90% they have turned this into a fiasco and now they are lying their way through it.

          Paul Hinman and the Doctor were careful with their words like philosophers, but Jason Kenney should take heed.”

          2. There are many narratives afloat right now. Kenney is bombarded by the experts who work for the government of AB. If he won’t listen to them, then who? They were hired for their expertise.

            None of this means anything if they get it wrong but to be seen as dismissive of your own experts opinions is dangerous in the extreme for a politician. While it’s only my opinion I think DJT was on his way to re election before covid hit.

            It’s a lose lose situation for Kenney. The covid autopsy will take place over the years. An inquiry will surely take place. Most of the current crop of politico’s will be long gone in the rear view mirror by the time culpability is established…if it ever is.

            It’s easy to be a Monday morning quarterback and call out every decision but when your in the chair and it’s you who has to make the call, the consequences are yours alone.

            Kenney’s conservatism is based much the same as yours David Murrell. I’m sure he is torn apart by what is occurring and his conservative philosophy is being sorely tested. What remains of it once this thing settles down concerns me.

            Man is a basic moral being but the flexible ethics that I see in the crop of modern politicians is distressing. What will conservatism look like once were ‘back to normal’? Will it be a free for all? Perish the thought.

            Just speculating but perhaps he took a bribe, one bigger than he ever believed could come his way. If so, he’s set for life.

    2. I’ve been experimenting with mandated mask-wearing. In a large supermarket in the next block, which I enter 3-4 times a week, I half-assedly don the “holy rag” and when in, pull it down on my chin.

      FAILED at London Drugs the other day. A staff member trotted down my aisle and chastised me not wearing it. I imitated a semi-demented oldster, pointing to may mask, after which she explained that it had to cover my mouth and nose.

      The thing is though: her panic was akin to what one expect in an active shooter event.

      1. I was at the Oncology Clinic a week ago and as usual after the blood tests you have about an hour to wait before the Dr`s review. I buy a muffin and a coffee and sit in the large Atrium filled with other patients. I pull the mask below my chin, pull off a piece of muffin, and munch. Between munches I notice a woman some distance away giving me the stink eye. My mask was below my chin. She could not see the muffin in my lap and I could almost see her visibly inflating before my eyes. Uh Oh we have a Karen. As she began to approach me I reached down, pulled off a chunk and stuffed it in my mouth, all while looking back at her. To watch her deflate was a joy to behold.

        This afternoon I was headed for the door to the pet store at the same time as a young “lady” who was wearing a mask and holding a large bag of pet food in her arms that I believe she was returning.
        I held back as people left the store and as I reached for the door the young “lady” who had suddenly backed away asked in a snotty voice, “Do you have a mask today?!”
        I replied, “I’m outside. And yes I do,” as I pulled my gaiter up and then said, “And look, I was just going to hold the fucking door for you!” and opened the door for the skank who meekly said thanks.

        I wonder how she’ll tell others that story or if she’ll just keep her pie hole shut.

    I passed this on to my Brunswick News contact, who seemed very enthusiastic about the local newspaper publishing a story on this. After all, it seems strange that 8,000 young people would pile into an arena, on May 20 2021,with the Chinese virus still on with a majority of New Brunswickers still waiting for a vaccine shot. This, with a charity that is supposedly shutting down, doing the organizing. Brunswiok News, if they publish something, will do it with their typical Bill Blair like speed.

    We are all rest assured that the CBC will continue to build bridges with China. Two articles the last two days stressed that, indeed, Justin Trudeau is “standing up” to China, through his Friday lunch presser at his modest cottage, and through our coveted Global Affairs minister, saying how Canada did in fact eventually end its military training China. And recall CBC News’s hit piece against the Epoch Times, a newspaper devoted to human rights issues against the Chinese government. And note that CBC News censored the press conference by Amnesty International and other Canadian human rights groups, when they issued a detailed reporting describing China’s intimation of dissidents living in Canada.

    Canadians have the CBC at their back, given our troubles with China.

    1. They do not do autopsies on Covid deaths, so this is not surprising. Many deaths are simply “with” Covid, but given that the Covid tests give many false positives, I believe the stats on Covid deaths– and cases — are completely unreliable.

    1. I believe the President has the power to deploy troops in the event of a clear and present national danger. I can’t see how an openly fraudulent federal election can’t be considered to be one.

      Yet, I keep encountering people who insist that the American presidential election last month was fair and legitimate. Then again, I seriously doubt that they get their news from sources other than the MSM. So, if the CBC said it was properly conducted, who are they to argue?

          I was reminded of it earlier today while I was listening to Channel 76 (Symphony Hall) on SiriusXM. One of the featured pieces was the score for Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet and portions of it sounded like the closing music for Traffik. It’s an adaptation of the opening part of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony in C minor, which added to the sombreness of the series.

          I saw the movie several years after I watched the series, so I wasn’t particularly impressed by it. Aside from a different setting, there were a lot of details from the series that appeared to have been left out.
