  2. As a guy who likes numbers, this is like eating vanilla icecream. But, it did point out to me the onbvious, but missed by me, fact that the Earthly day takes one solar degree to pass. Some kind of synchronism? Of course, only with a spherical horse because the Earth’s orbit is elliptical, not perfectly circular so, literally, at perihelion, one day is shorter than in the at aphelion, in terms of angulsar velocity around the Sun. Remember Keppler’s law about sweeping out the same area in the same unit of time. An incredible insight that required Newton to provide the mathematical explanation.

      My wake up was trying to use Pi(3.1419) in motion calculations.
      It is an open ended circle that is never closed.
      So, in circular motion, it must be adjusted as the distortion gets greater as each rotation is achieved.
      It is useless for the velocities modeling that I was generating.
      This forced me into the old fashioned measurement, time and specific facts that never repeated.
      Our science is based on a repeating cycle and in our Universe, nothing does. Only our schools teach this foolishness.

    2. So, on the average, each earthly day encompasses one solar degree? In other words, since it is an elliptical orbit, every earthly day the earth traverses an arc that covers quite close to 1/360 of the area encompassed by the orbit of the earth?

      Yeah, that’s wierd.

        1. I got the same impression. He’s reading mystical and cosmic significances into phenomena and measures where none exist.

Kenji and B.A.D.R. – It started to fall apart for me when he started to imply amazing coincidences between archaic distance and time measurement systems that both used units of 12 (12 inches in a foot, 12 hours in a half day). In both systems, if you square 12 you get 144. Who knew? Nice white-board art work though. SDA is my favourite web location so please don’t take this as a criticism of Kate’s content.

  5. That was an awful lot of woo to say “the earliest human civilizations tended to base their mathematics on multiples of the first three prime numbers because that makes the math easy”.

    It’s like the wankers who insist that there’s some cosmic significance to the fact that the base dimensions of the pyramids of Egypt are integer multiples of pi. It’s because the bases were measured out using a measuring wheel on a stick.

  6. I come here daily because Kate find gems such as this. Especially with the measurements of time and distance, this leaves me with the impression that the ancients were in direct communication with higher entities, whether spiritual or alien, that guided them in the choice of subdivisions. Thanks, Kate!

  7. Remember when the Metric system was forced on us by Trudeau The Great. I remember long mathematical decertations showing why the old system of measurement was better because it used some of these same numbers. In other words the base 10 system was not found in the real world to the same extent as the old system’s numbers. I can’t seem to find any of those articles. Some of them were pretty good.
