  1. The drugs are keeping Keith alive, because at this point they are addicted to him and don’t want to go cold turkey.

  2. Could be that the alcohol and the chemicals are good preservatives.
It is a puzzle how this guy lives through all the stuff he ingests.

    1. My grandmother was our family’s Keith Richards. She lived to 92 and used to smoke almost a pack of cigarettes and drink three Black Label beers a day. She said she started smoking when she was 17. So that was 3/4 of a century of cigarette smoking. Amazingly she didn’t die of lung cancer. Miss ya Tes!

      1. Yeah, I could outdrink the best of them.
        The doctor said, no more
A glass of red wine will do.
        And so it is.

  3. I dunno.

Sure he lived the RnR lifestyle but I suspect he laid that stuff down a long time ago. Mick is fit as hell.

    1. Actually, I believe the last tour was delayed as Mick had a couple stents installed in his heart last year. I too have a couple and believe me “fit as hell” is not accurate by any means!

      1. MDK Retrofit

I hear you but I’m willing to bet you haven’t lived the RnR lifestyle KR has. It’s self destructive on any level.

Maybe ‘fit as hell’ is an over reach. I saw the Stones on the Voodoo Lounge tour. I was in the ‘pit’. The stage had a stair case several storeys high and Mick raced up and down with reckless abandon. You don’t do that and carry the show without a certain level of fitness.

So maybe Richards isn’t fit at that level but he simply can’t be abusing himself at much of a level and still be with us. He’s still playing at a high level.

  4. You know the saying “Only the good die young” ??

The guy is amazing, considering the way he has abused his body. Gives us all hope.

I heard somewhere that he has quit smoking – can anyone confirm this?

    1. As much as I like him, Shane isn’t doing as well as ole Keef.

Shanes been in a wheelchair since 2015.

  5. I think that’s Ronnie Woods in the background…he’ll be 74 next year and no stranger to the Hedonistic lifestyle as well.
    And it shows – he’s got a face like a catcher’s mitt.

  6. My theory is that after 50 generations living on that cold dank rock and surviving on nothing but whiskey potatoes and cigarettes, pretty much all the weak were killed off.

  7. It is known one of Trump’s favorite bands are the Stones, remember he had “you can’t always get what you want” as the closing tune for his rallies for years until recently where they were forced to stop using it…Also, the stones were proud to play in wonderful Obama era, Cuba which is such a “great” place according to Jagger…just another bunch of spoiled and ignorant lefty entertainers IMO. Finally, Keith Richard’s a very ordinary guitar player who spends more time with his hands off the guitar in concert and his few guitars solos suck for the most part. Ron Woods is a much better player (check his Faces years with Rod Stewart) but is not allowed to out due Richard. The Stones also need an army of players and singers while in on concert and still manage to sound empty…and that’s playing garage rock basically. Don’t get me wrong, I like many of their tunes but on record, not live. Happy birthday dopehead!

    1. What the typical metalhead fails to understand is that Richards is a straight up Blues guitarist. Richards is a master of the Blues, who has taken the standard Blues riffs and converted them into the genre of R&R. He’s a brilliant Rock interpreter of the Blues. He’s penned more memorable riffs and hooks than any other guitarist.

The Blues are played with FEELING. With a time signature that requires pauses, string bends, and slides. It’s that negative space between the notes that makes a great blues player … that makes Richards a great Rock guitarist. But all guitarists are different … each with their own personality and FEEL. I imagine those concepts are entirely lost to a metalhead, who just want to bang their head to an over-amped thrash guitar. The other great Stones Guitarists; Ronnie Wood and Mick Taylor. I’m a huge Taylor fan … and his style of play is starkly different than Richards. That’s what makes REAL music great! It’s a HUMAN imprinted endeavor. It’s all about the feeeeeeling … which can best be described as the pace and the space between the notes. Something a metal Head May find … boring?

I can appreciate metal … hell … I even find Rammstein’s Industrial Metal amusing.

      1. Exactly Kenji,
Blues is where the Brits went to for R&R inspiration and Muddy Waters was the Stones’ idol. Check out this precious impromptu concert of sorts from back in the day…
From the comments: “Keith’s performance at 8:03 is dope”…..

      2. “Richards is a master of the Blues”
I think it’s the secret to their longevity in the music biz. The Blues informs what and who the Rolling Stones are and they’ve never forgotten what helped ‘bring em to the show’.
It also doesn’t hurt that they enjoy doing something that they’re good at.

          1. Thanks nold
Gonna read it now– I knew Waters joined Eric Clapton on tour, they admired each other, I learned today.

      3. Kenji you nailed it.

There are only 12 notes. Music is made up of rhythm, feel, interpretation etc. Sure Richards is an ordinary guitar player but he’s a guy who early on knew that less is more and sometimes silence says more than 128 notes in the next 4 bars. It’s called taste.

Is he the greatest player of all time? Of course not – who is, he’s just a guy who plays guitar at a certain level and has attained wild commercial success. Garages around the world are full of guitar players and bands that can kick the Stones ass any night of the week…but nobody’s ever heard of them.

  8. According to a biography of Mick Jagger…
Mick and Keith were like an old married couple who fought like cats and dogs most of their lives. Mick would constantly have to whip the group up to get to work. Video is a sample of their love-hate relationship, when they weren’t fighting. These two have been together longer than they’ve each been with any other partners.

Best wishes to the old goat. Mick was doin’ it fa ya own good.

  9. So, wow! He’s 77 — that skinny-limbed ectomorph!

Here is Keith Richards singing “My Babe” (Remastered 2019) a Chicago blues song written by Willie Dixon for Little Walter, released in 1955.

      1. Abt– We know you’re mainly a jazz, blues and country fan and musician but what and whom do you like in R&R? Asking, because a musician’s opinion is always interesting. And did you sing at all when you played professionally? Just curious. You seem to know so much theory about these genres and a vast array of songs. You could be someone very famous and won’t tell us. Not that I blame you. A chick can fantasize can’t she?

As for Mick’s aerobics expertise did you know his dad taught
phys ed, so it was something he grew up with. Mick too did a lot of booze and drugs back in the day, despite staying in shape.

        P.S.
Not exactly on a roll tonight but you got here where you’re most welcome. Always.

Pleased to meet you, hope you can’t guess my name.
But what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game”

        1. That is fantastic, the sound was terrific by comparison to what I played! Had no idea Mick Taylor was so good, he made all the difference. He was a good player yet a poor businessman for leaving the Stones. The Stones should’ve cleaned him up and made him stay. I guess that’s why Mick whipped the rest of the guys into place esp. Keith after Taylor left. Thanks for that.

    1. How could he? You capture God’s handy work in film and photos.
Saw them all when you put them here for all to see and I commented on them too. Photos were great, Bernie!
