  1. News on Blackie’s CBC this morning is divided between Trump is Hitler stories and Canadians are racist bastards.

      1. Ditto. I think that that’s part of the plan. In order to tear apart society, those who want to do the tearing need to find as many weaknesses in the fabric of society that they can. Is there a racist group that sees everything only through the prism of race? Perfect. Put them front and center and push and push until everyone who has encountered them hates that group of racists enough that that hatred can splash onto others who share the race with them. Any perceived difference must be exploited. Over 7000 same race deaths don’t matter, find the 5 or 10 that cross the lines, and force them to the front.

  2. If these stats are to be believed (which they are not), Canada should legalize FGM, or otherwise be more like Egypt.

  3. Canadians on average lack critical thinking skills. Too lazy to corroborate, too eager to ingest leftist propaganda and too willing to do without freedom for comfort.
Months of CERB means a likely majority for Blackie next elections.
The average Canadian is also stupid.

    1. OTOH … The Canadian and American public have been force fed incomplete “data” and dumbed-down data. The actual “hot-spots” of infection (Mexican neighborhoods) cannot be revealed … because that would be “racist”. Yes … some data and some science is “racist”. Listen … if math is “racist” … just another white Euro invention designed to keep minorities out of University (right?) … then data which proves the COVID is only hitting ‘certain communities’ hard … is “racist” too. Everything’s racist now … right?

And so the “data” is “smoothed” and broadened as to be dumber than dumb data. Useless data. Nonsensical science. Politically-correct “science”. So it’s hard to blame the general public when they are effectively being LIED to by their governments and the media. The LYING government and their media scribes are to blame.

    2. Agreed Ray. I was talking about the inflation aspects of this to my wife yesterday. It shocked her when I said that anything imported would become more expensive because the government is just printing money without actually adding to the value that a dollar is supposed to mean. It’s good for exporters, bad news for importers (including everything around the house not built in Canada).

“But why would they do something like that to make us all poorer?” “How many of us think that it makes us poorer, remember 10 minutes ago when you were delighted that the government was covering your lost wages because you had to be home with the kids?”

  4. Anyone believes those numbers have I got a deal for you, waterfront in Florida, real cheap.

    1. I’ll take you up on that waterfront in Florida. What were you really trying to say?

    2. Are there any stats re individual provinces to compare! If we took Que and Ont out of the mix on the table offered, it would compare mush differently.

      1. Just take Montreal and Toronto out of the picture. Because subways.

But here’s the kicker, just take Montreal and Toronto old-folks homes out of the picture. That’s where all the fatalities are.

You notice how nobody is saying that? They want you staying at home cowering.

I’ve seen some people get very sick from this thing, but not very many of them. Mostly this is a failure of long-term-care homes to provide a decent service. They have been hell-holes for a long time, but now the sheets are ripped off and we can all see.

  5. World wide fatalities have now reached maybe 453,000. world wide that does not square with the numbers listed. If a billion people caught the flu between one an two million might die that is still less than the seasonal flu in 2018. If the entire 8 billion people on the planet got the flu then the number might be around 8 million fatalities.

    1. I agree with you OWG, BUT:
I’ve recently posted some numbers including the world average death rate that is over 5%.
They haven’t proved that a whole lot of people have gotten the Wuhan Flu but just haven’t been counted.
And the far right column of deaths per million is not relevant.
What I’m getting at is that if a simpleton like me can do the math, so can all the scarrity-cats. A 1 in 20 chance of dying is pretty shitty odds.
Until they can/will statistically say the odds are 1 in 1000 or whatever of it actually putting you on the wrong side of the turf, they can push their lock-down narrative.

      1. “deaths per million is not relevant”
Wrong, this is the only KPI that matters, and, even if not accurate, it is at least more accurate than infection rate and mortality rate, both of which are f(amount and approach to testing), i.e. more or less arbitrary.

          1. Why would they? They’re not interested in providing truthful, actionable information.

        1. It’s the only useful metric in those charts. The rest are a mishmash of statistical noise and incomplete data.

It takes a particular fool to single out deaths, the only useful number, as irrelevant, to be that precisely wrong.

When you don’t know how many people actually have the virus, just those detected, then it’s impossible to derive a death rate from the disease. Additionally, asymptomatic cases, influenza and other deaths are mixed in with the fog.

Hospitalizations and death rates only are derivable as a percentage of population to identify trends.

That won’t work for the perpetually outraged and terrified (of the truth and/or having work for their pay).

We must take maps and put red splotches of millions of healthy people who may or may not be showing symptoms.

We have a media that couldn’t pass a grade 10 math or science course let alone university, telling us to “follow science.” That of which they haven’t a clue, not conceptually, not systematically and certainly not quantifiably.

So politicians who didn’t get the control they lusted are now in the process of flattening the economy and our liberty.

  6. Mortality calculated using deaths and confirmed cases is a bogus, meaningless number.

      1. As do I, but that narrative is being pushed somewhat subliminally.
Like who gives fuck if three people in St. John’s test positive but its posted nationally by the MSM.

        1. I don’t care if all of Canada tested positive, it is not going to kill everyone in Canada. Man, the stupid is irritating.

  7. Maybe it’d be 3% less if we had the Hydroxychloroquine and shut the flights from China. But it’s easier to hate Trump or something.

    1. Ah, but that would mean that critical thinking skills are required by the average Canadian. Instead, we have this loyal, sheep/lemming quality for the average person, that believes EVERYTHING the media says, no matter how stupid.
Watching the news nowadays feels like an exercise in IQ deprivation!

    2. The US never “ shut the flights from China”. The administration prohibited non-U.S. citizens who have traveled to China within the last two weeks from entering the US. Immediate family of US citizens and permanent residents were exempted. Flights from China continued to arrive from China throughout Feb and onwards.

Also, by the time this policy was implemented, the virus was already circulating in the US population. Other domestic outbreaks were seeded by travellers arriving from Europe and other parts of the world.

Trump is correct to say that he was among the first national leaders to impose travel restrictions on travellers from China. What he doesn’t admit — and what you’ll never read on SDA — is that those travel restrictions didn’t matter in the end. Unless a country was willing to impose a full ban — that is, shut down ALL international travel, without exception — as far back as early January when the virus first became international news, and maintain that ban for the next few years unlike the virus is snuffed out globally (via a vaccine or natural herd immunity), then travel restrictions merely delay the inevitable, and even then, only slightly.

  8. Getting tested is a snap shot in time. Those who test positive will be advised to quarantine and treated as needed, the negatives will have to realize they still need to take all precautions.

I”m not sick but had to get tested in order to visit a relative in LTC residence. Visits will be outdoors, 6 ft apart and wearing a mask. It’s going to be confusing for someone with dementia.

  9. We’re currently at 1.98% in Alberta. I suspect this number will drop once we get rolling on the antibody testing and discover that a lot more people had it but didn’t realize it. The main number I’m worried about is that my infection rate appears to be at 0%. My heart is kinda poop and I’m high risk. I’ll be in hiding for a good while longer.

  10. What’s with the numbers from Quebec? Every other province has numbers in similar proportions, but Quebec has far higher death rate and far higher active vs total rate than anyone else? Have we ever seen corruption come from Quebec before? There has to be a first time I guess.

  11. I think Canada’s mortality is higher mostly because people in Quebec are just better than the rest of us.
    At something.
More specifically, at the kind of bookkeeping that causes billions in equalization payments to flow in their direction from certain other provinces year after year after year after year.

      1. Yep, 2018, 3,177,204 died from the seasonal flu world wide and that was not high enough for a lockdown. This has been a political experiment. So far world wide it is about 453 thousand. Out of almost 8 billion of us. Anyone who is actually afraid of this has a far more serious problem than a flu virus.

        1. “ Yep, 2018, 3,177,204 died from the seasonal flu…So far world wide it is about 453 thousand.“

          Two things:
          1) Total global seasonal influenza deaths is usually estimated around the 500,000 mark. No idea where you’re getting 3M from. Maybe a Russian Twitter bot?
          2) The current “official” number of COVID deaths is based mainly on confirmed cases and therefore almost certainly an underestimate. Also, it has only been a few months, and additional deaths are still accruing at about 4K per day. Moreover, this grim running tally is what it is in the context of an unprecedented global shutdown. In the absence of physical distancing, lockdowns, etc., that number would absolutely be higher.

          1. Actually that’s incorrect. All the lockdown and social-distancing nonsense is causing herd immunity to take much longer to go into effect. Plus, it’s not even as bad as a bad flu season. You’re duped.

          2. Lance requested a source for the revised numbers, and difference from normal, Mark. Saying “you’re wrong” or “you’re duped” doesn’t provide an answer to that.

Different sources have different levels of trust. Right now we only have your anonymous word for it on a blog, which is one of the least trustworthy sources known to man.

Sources please, so we can evaluate?

          3. Lance. great big NO to your post. As annual seasonal flue death rates are far higher, because you never get an accurate count on that from china, or india.

    1. Something as virulent and lethal as the effects of smallpox on a population with no immunity, perhaps, with CFR’s of 30 percent or higher and R0’s of 3.5 or higher. A formal lockdown would have been unnecessary then, of course. Only the truly foolhardy would have needed telling to stay indoors.

If we’re still arguing about whether this is a plague, it’s not.

  12. I am very glad I live in a rural area far from the crowds and insanity where I am surrounded by prairie rednecks, farmers, and old fashioned men with no issues about their stereotypical gender role. Never interfere with a group of such men having a beer around a campfire on a Friday evening by threatening their kids and dogs. It took police their usual 45 minutes to arrive and by the time they did, it was long over and settled to almost everyone’s satisfaction. I’m staying right here until this whole COVID-19 thing is done.

  13. Funny that.
It is not a “Black death”plague.
So far it is less effective than the seasonal flu.
Yet the situation remains an “Emergency”.
We MUST NOT relax and get back to being human, producing and trading..
    Cause COVID.
Yet we can Burn Loot Murder.
Acting in the emotionally stoked madness of a rioting mob is OK.
Working with 10 other people is forbidden.

    We need new elites.
For these Effete Nitwits Of Good Government are truly destructive,of the society they claim to serve.

    1. According to the latest immunological and serological studies, the overall lethality of Covid-19 (IFR) is about 0.1% and thus in the range of a strong seasonal influenza (flu).

Regardless of the comparatively low lethality of Covid19 in the general population, there is still no scientific evidence for the effectiveness of masks in healthy and asymptomatic people in everyday life.

Various politicians in Europe and the US have declared that the “corona crisis” can only be ended by a vaccine that is currently being developed.

However, many experts have pointed out that an express vaccine against the new coronavirus is not necessary or useful due to the overall low lethality and the already declining spread. The protection of risk groups, especially in nursing homes, could be much more targeted.

Most traditional media, almost all of which are part of elite geopolitical networks, decided to run a campaign of fear during the coronavirus period, a behavior that is usually observed in connection with wars of aggression or alleged terrorist attacks.

The risk to the general population was greatly exaggerated, official policies were hardly questioned, the situation in hospitals was dramatized, manipulative images were used, campaigns were staged, and protesters were systematically defamed as “idiots”.

Due to its rather low lethality, Covid-19 falls at most into level 2 of the five-level pandemic plan developed by the US health authorities. For this level, only the “voluntary isolation of sick people” is to be applied, while further measures such as face masks, school closings, distance rules, contact tracing, vaccinations and lockdowns of entire societies are not recommended.

      Much more here: https://swprs.org/a-swiss-doctor-on-covid-19/

      1. And don’t forget that there are vaccines for the flu which keeps the mortality numbers lower than they would be without a vaccine.

  14. Let’s look at this without statistics. Let’s look at this as if there was no news on this pandemic subject whatsoever.

No news cycle inflaming this. Same coverage as regular flu which is to say none.

How many people do you know within 2° of separation that have gotten sick or died.

    I know none.

However I do know four people within 2° of separation that have died from fentanyl overdose

  15. Canadian government was not prepared for a pandemic, handled it badly as time went on and people died, people lost their businesses and continue to as we keep hearing about getting prepared for the second wave. Will things be any different?
What happens if the country goes broke?

Why are we taking this lying down and cowering in our homes as people are allowed to protest in the streets with no concern for spreading what we are told is a lethal virus?

When will there be a call from the opposition to force Popinjay of the Cottage to get arses in the seats of Parliament and let Democracy have a chance?

    1. What happens if the country goes broke!

Sorry Liz, We already have no gold standard. Justin is spending money we don’t actually have, by running the printing presses day and night! What this means, without gold backing up our dollar, it means devaluation of the dollar. I’m sure you’ve noticed the already rising costs of groceries and just about everything else as well. Six months from now, our money will not be worth 25% to 30% of what it is now, or more, and if our incomes do not increase (highly likely) then what you are paying ten bucks for now, you will be paying 13 – 15 bucks for next year, or maybe more. Because of this stupid policy, our standard of living will be in the tank! Plus there is no recourse now, and no way to avoid it. We are screwed.

It’s also worth mentioning that China, where this virus originated, DOES have a gold standard on it’s Yuan. We use the US dollar as our international trade dollar, but it also does NOT have a gold standard. By default, the world trading community will tend to migrate to the Chinese Yuan simply because it will have a gold backed standard. Gee, imagine that, Somehow, by “mistake”, a virus escaped a lab in China, then it spread around the world, and most Western governments went into panic mode, shut down their entire economies, and started spending billions in Canada, but trillions in the US, of non backed currency! Money they don’t have, and perhaps bankrupting our countries, but that’s OK, we can just print more money right?

China in the meantime would not dare to take advantage of such an aggravated situation, right? They have no policies of expansion, right? They wouldn’t take advantage of other countries when they are in such a destabilizing situation, right? They have no aggressive spying policies, right? They don’t try to manipulate global problems to their advantage, right? I’m sure they will step up to help the West, out of the goodness of their hearts….right? Finally, Justin would not admire such a system of government, right? S/

  16. That stat is irrelevant because it depends on a number of factors, one of which is the rate of testing. The purest fact is deaths per million, even though it too can be manipulated. Using that stat, Canada is lagging the US in deaths by a lot. Sweden though, is being devastated and is closing in on Italy.

The by far best stat is excess deaths using historic versus contemporary data.

    1. In the U.S., the CDC guidance to “death certifiers” is that they are to include those who die WITH the Wuhan virus not just those who die OF the Wuhan virus. So if you have someone in a nursing home who has advanced cancer and they die with the virus, they are a Wuhan virus death. Also, as for Sweden, all they have done is shortened the time towards herd immunity.

  17. I only social distance when forced to – lineups. Other than that, pfft. I respectfully try to stay away from old people.
But if you can’t get sick, stay home because it or some version of it is not going away.

  18. i have, ahem, a friend, who works in the Covid section of a very large Calgary hospital.

They have a dedicated unit, with x# of beds and there are less than 10 people in it. Well that’s still a lot someone would say…

Well, those less than 10 folk in that unit aren’t even COVID. Sure a ‘few’ come in daily for testing, but all are tested negative. Some have other health issues and are kept overnight for observation, but not COVID related.

AAAnd to top it off, my, ahem, friend, has had ‘its’ hours cut back and hasn’t been on recall needed, as in sudden influx of patients.

So I’d like to know where AHS is getting their numbers for sick and dead as there isn’t much happening in Calgary.

Of course my friend, “it” told me not to give away too much info about who/what/where/when and why…

  19. Things you will never see on SDA:
USA has 23x as many total cases
USA has 14.5x as many total deaths
USA has 85x as many new cases yesterday
USA has 15.5x as many new deaths yesterday

All with only 8.5x the population.

    1. And the USA has a much higher testing rate than Canada. And if you extract New York, New Jersey from the data, the USA numbers fall dramatically. The deaths in the USA are now at their lowest point (267) since March 24. The peak was on April 21 when it was 2.693. The USA deaths per million is 369. New York State deaths per million is 1,605 and in New Jersey, it is 1.463 per million. The death rate in New York State is DOUBLE that of Belgium….the country with the highest death toll in the world. But then that is what the Democrats are best at. Killing people.

    2. alla ASS, another math illiterate. Why do you assholes git on the net to prover yer stupidity?????

  20. How can we have a higher mortality rate but a lower deaths/million rate?

      1. Population density of Canada….11 per square mile. Population density of USA 92 per square mile. Once again, the infection rate in Canada (with a lower testing rate than the US) is 2686 per million…..New York State is 21.141 per million….New Jersey is 19,373. Those Democrat Governors did a bang up job, didn’t they (well, if they were being rated by Josef Mengele).

    1. Because the mortality rate is based on tested and confirmed cases, which is dependent on testing. If you only test severely ill people, your mortality rate will be high.

That’s why Johann, above, pointed out that deaths per million population is the only trustable metric. It’s still off, because Kung Flu deaths are being overcounted, but it’s less sensitive to testing rate. And by that measure we’re at 2/3 of the US.

Kate is emotionally invested in the THIS IS CAP’N TRIPPS AND WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE narrative for some reason. She’s had to slack off as Kung Flu resolutely refuses to herald the appearance of Randall Flag and the supply chains continue on more-or-less undisrupted.

  21. WHO tells us that up to 650,000 die from the flu every year (prior to the China Pox). They, also, tell us 69 Million in the US get the flu every year (prior to the China Pox).

I think that’s relevant when you decide whether this year’s “statistics” mean anything at all.

Of course, in previous years we didn’t confine the elderly to their rooms under government mandate.

  22. I watched a video by a doctor who treated covid early on and his recommendation was:

1.Don’t come in close contact with others(i.e. 6 ft)
2.Wash your hands (or use sanitizer) after touching things like shopping buggies.
3.MOST IMPORTANT Don’t touch your face before using sanitizer or washing hands
4.Wear a mask because it helps you to avoid touching your face.

    1. Some people are taking this waaaaay to seriously. Early this morning, I flew to my house in B. C., going through Vancouver.

Just about everyone inside the airport building in Edmonton was wearing a mask but the most extreme approach was a number of young adults wearing–get this–bunny suits (the same ones used for biological and other high-purity applications) and safety goggles.

People have simply gone completely nuts over something which wasn’t anywhere as bad as forecast.

  23. You can’t quote a mortality rate unless you’ve tested everybody. Otherwise it’s a meaningless number. Quoting and comparing mortality vs known cases is meaningless….it’s a function of testing rates.

  24. It’s also difficult to compare between countries because of different practices in deciding whether a death was due to COVID-19 or not.

    1. Yep, everything in America is virus related. Buddy shot his wife last night. Virus, of some sort.

  25. Like someone else asked, what’s an acceptable kill rate for Covid-19?
What’s the acceptable kill rate for a nuke or chemical plant? Who many accidents per year x kill rate are these facilities designed to? 1 death per 100,00 per year? 1 per million?
What about planes falling out of the sky? Is 30 planes crashing per month acceptable?
Is it OK for them to release a Covid 20 next year and a Covid-21 etc etc killing an additional 500,000 annually?
One death is one too many unless you are an apologist for the Chicoms or you believe the western Intelligence agencies that the virus didn’t come from a Chicom bio-lab. There’s plenty of evidence to refute that. That begs the question why are western intelligence agencies covering for the Chicoms?

None of us have any business telling those with a 50 times higher risk of dying that they shouldn’t be wearing a mask out in public. It’s not just about the death toll. Unlike the flu, Covid 19 can cause serious complications and lifelong lasting damage.

They have pumped $20 trillion into the financial markets in the past 3 months on top of the 20 trillion over the previous years since the GFC (Great Financial Crash). Credit to them for not letting an opportunity to go to waste. Bottom line is some true believers wear masks and some don’t.

    1. hey warm, go with this, I am over 70, had heart problems about 1 year ago, cancer 20 years ago, and a stroke more recently. When I got back from china, I had flue symptoms, even tho I had had a flue shot. And I am still around I think!! People are way to damn fragile in their mental process as far as the Fake Flue is concerned. A few in here were/are on the we’re all gonna die train. Take V-D, zink supplement, and use a bit of caution (which I have not been doing) and things should work out. Hell, I’v almost died 3 times from the regular flue, in my life time.

  26. “what’s an acceptable kill rate for Covid-19”? ask the Health experts
The CBC did not pickup on Premier FORD when he stated that the UNION Employees responsible for the Most Vulnerable old folks in Care Homes refused to inspect existing conditions… They worked from Home while those people were dying. Massive misconduct leading to death

Does Canada have a blind eye in the application of Justice? The Union needs to be decertified and charges brought against all those involved… Flat evil, but Canadians are to stupid to see themselves….

    JMHO

  27. “…what’s an acceptable kill rate for Covid-19?”
Well what is the acceptable death rate for life?.
How many people do we normally have die in an ordinary year?

The W.H.O stats for annual flu deaths was used to beat us over the heads for years,”Get your flu shot”…Yet when Covid failed to be competitive, the WHO and our pathetic Public Health Bureaucrats, tell us “You can’t use the Flu numbers” cause we just make them up..
So what deaths are we to use,as “normal”?
Without a reference all our “emergency Actions” are unmeasurable.it is impossible to say if these lockdowns, the crippling of the real economy, are worthwhile.

I note how heart attack, the aggressive cancers and auto accidents had almost vanished as “cause of death” at the peak of this panic.

Given the bureaucrats of public health felt they could bestow their blessing on the Burn.Loot.Murder “Peaceful forming of mobs” and their political masters had no qualms about mingling with the virtuous and righteous, why do they seek to prolong home imprisonment for taxpayers?

From the beginning the panic was hysterical, the message was confused and contradictory and as time went by everything was changed.
    Serial incompetence writ large.
    Or Good enough for government.
Now the “Covid Crisis” Crew is just insulting our intelligence as they seek to salvage their asses from their exposed uselessness and sheer stupidity.

Riot is the only sane response,to fools and bandits chanting “Respect my authority”.

    1. Yup John, all those in here who were shitting their pants on this, are math and logically stupid. I said rite up front, the communists now have their model, and that has been proven the case.

  28. Bizarre. Basing the results on deaths per people tested positive also puts China as worse off than the U.S.
I suppose that might make some Americans feel better.
Obvious why no link was provided.
