      2. Except that Kenney is not the one to lead this fight. I suspect that he still has ambitions of returning to Ottawa one day to become PM. A petition like this just forces him to run a little faster if he wants to stay out front and look like he is leading the parade. Other than that, all petitions to the government are “weak shit”, the only ones they don’t ignore are the one started by their proxies promoting what they already want to do but have no support for.

        *Not an Albertan here. I still hope it is the entire West that leaves. Pipelines are only a catalyst, the real reason to leave is Ottawa and the federal government. The government of Canada is showing all the signs of a symptoms of a society in wilful decline.

    Liverpool scored eight goals in two games starting two different sets of forwards. The only one of the six who did not have a goal was Firmino.
    So much for lack of depth in the forward position.
    Manchester City is now fourteen points adrift. They have now dropped as many points as all of last season. (Obviously the big difference is not having Laporte and Kompany as central defenders. ManU proved they are very susceptible to the counter.) Like I said, I will be rooting for them in two weeks against Leicester, which is the only team with any kind of hope of catching Liverpool. The latter really lack depth and must avoid any injury, but they do have the advantage of not playing in Europe and being able to concentrate solely on the EPL, as they did when they won the title a few years back.
    There can be too much of a good thing. After watching the two EPL games, I started on the college conference championships. The AAC and B12 games were great to watch without too much rooting interest, but I hardly watched the one-sided SEC and AAC games. I missed the third quarter of the B10 game when it all turned. Interestingly, Oklahoma is the only Big Five team with one loss. So I guess there isn’t too much argument to put them fourth. Thanks to Oregon.

    1. A constitutional amendment authorized US income tax. The states should have had a sunset clause on it because they created a monster. Power from the chequebook.

      Any US federal tax on people (other than income tax) has to be proportional based on a state’s population.

  24. Yesterday I noticed that the department stores didn’t seem to have the usual traffic for a Saturday afternoon, this time of year. There are some good sales. Boxing Day started on Black Friday here.

    There is the same usual sleepy panhandler outside on weekends in front of a major general store. On one occasion a lady brought him a whole meal from one of the fast food joints. So sad that it’s come to this.

    There is job loss.

    The FOOD BANKS are overwhelmed by demand.

    This is the new Calgary. Hard to believe. So sad.

Because the BQ and the NDP and the Greens will demand it, and Trudeau will shrug and say. “I could do nothing my hands were tied, they held a carrot or a parsnip to my back” And it is not just the oil patch. It is the farmers as well. Kenney’s Carbon Tax conveniently kicks in in January just after Christmas.

        There has been car thefts and house B&E s around here.

        I have an alarm system and use the “arm to stay” feature at night. Motion lights in back of home. There’s three automatic “on” lights in front at dusk, “shut off” at dawn. All doors are locked during daylight hours. All door locks are doubly checked at bedtime. Removed the cord from the garage door opener mechanism. Stuck large nails in the garage door track on each side. I de-activate the garage door “on” switch at night. I keep the driveway shoveled in Winter, grass cut in Summer. There’s never any junk lying around. I never open the front door to strangers. I give to Charity when I want. People ignore my small sign that reads “No Solicitation”… guess they don’t read English.

        1. NR I can not believe how quickly food costs are spiraling upward. I do not think folks get that the Carbon Tax is basically an additional GST. It will get a tax onto all the items that the GST missed and the GST will be added onto the Carbon Tax on all the other items.
          Even a homeless man living in a cardboard box under a bridge in Canada has to pay tax. He panhandles a few bucks or cashes in some bottles and when he spends those few dollars he will be taxed. And no he will not get a rebate at tax time because he has no address. Canadian working families already pay more in taxes than they are allowed to keep of their own money for their families, for the necessities of life. Being Food, Clothing and Housing. A criminal level of taxation.
          And even small town Albertans are so over governed that they pay city level municipal taxes. In my opinion many of the local governments are the very worst at transparency and do not act in the best interests of their taxpayers. They are all wastrel lunatics. Many of them involved in their pet ego projects, mostly green scams of one kind or another.
          As to home security, I have always had a dog. The right dog is not only a good friend but like the old saying. A gun may misfire but a Rottweiler won’t.
          And I am just using Rotti as an example.
          Here is another one. My one Granny years ago had to travel to the USA by train for some reason. Anyway she carried a brick in her rather stoutly made purse.
          In the train station in Buffalo NY, some unfortunate man tried to rob her.
          The story goes she hit him so hard he did not even remember his own name. Ha Ha Ha.

            I hear you about food prices. It’s the USD vs the Canadian dollar exchange rate that is the killer. Remember when we had the lowly 60 cent dollar under da lil tief? I avoid the outrageously overpriced stuff. Two years ago in December, cauliflour went up to $8 something a head. Then, this Fall celery was $5 something. When stuff rotted on the shelves the prices quickly went south.

            I cook from scratch so there’s always something good to eat. Why not pay the price and cook lots. What one saves on energy one can spend on food.

          2. Yes Nancy you are right. My one Granddaughter and I just came back from my daily hike, we are up at 2.5 miles now. And she told me today that her fitness score has gone up 30% and her gym teacher asked her what she was doing and she told him walking with grandpa. Made me feel good.
            DIL is working today so me and Granddaughter are making home made stew from scratch for supper with Grandpa’s Bannock. I made the bannock a week or so ago and it was gone in 5 minutes. The bannock for supper was the kids idea, so will teach my tomboy how to make that as well. Again her idea. I call her my Tomboy because she likes fixing things. Good kid. Maybe I will even work up to baking bread from scratch if she wants. Last week we smoked some fish. My sons 2 nd time smoking fish.

          3. Nice. I walked at least 7 hours last week and that’s with an aching cold that’s almost gone. Took Advil Cold Tablets to be able to breathe.

            Had some great meals as well on the go and co-incidently ….this recipe below is coming out of the oven in ~ 6:41 minutes. Goes with a stew and giant salad! Yum!

          5. You are welcome! Just tried some with dinner. It turned out to be awesome! First try, that easy! The crust was crunchy and the inside was soft and delicious. It reminds one of the square buns that they sell @ Costco, and similar to the taste. I have the same DUTCH oven pot that she used. Got it at Canadian Tire. I give this a 10/10 recipe.

            I was in a Superstore the other day and I redeemed some of my accumulated points. I told the cashier that it wouldn’t take me long to get them back. All that would be needed is to add some more carbon tax.

The Bannock disappeared very fast it was a 4 cup batch. The youngest snagged a piece for her lunch and her Mom snagged a 1/2 pc back off her. They ate their bowls of stew, and bannock then for dessert started slathering jam on the bannock. I had taught them earlier in life about eating jam on pan cakes. So they made their own dessert. ha ha ha. I for sure will try the bread recipe.
            Was in Walmart years ago and going through checkout, young checkout Lady. Threw 2 big bags of Old Roy dog food on the counter and commented to her, I have just about had it with Old Roy morning noon and night. She almost gagged when I shrugged and said that is all we can afford anymore.

          The AB government just announced they are adding 500 new rcmp positions is fiction. Where are these new recruits coming from? The rcmp has had difficulty recruiting for decades. They have barely been able to keep up to staffing demands the way things are let alone adding 500 positions. It’s bull shit. Can’t happen.

          Nobody feels safe – not even out here. The rcmp are hours away from responding. You have to be able to take care of yourself.

They then stated that people in Alberta will welcome the carbon tax once they start getting cheques from Blackie. Also discussed was that Jason Kenney isn’t popular in Alberta, Blackie is wonderful, Trump is Hitler, etc. etc.
