Climategate: The Disappeared

History is being wiped out.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has not only disappeared the Very Hot Days graph but they have wiped out thousands of 40 plus hot days in the years from 1910 – 1963 — years when almost all temperatures in Australia were recorded on Stevenson screens by trained officials under the central management of the Bureau. Volunteer, Chris Gillham, found the data and the changes between ACORN 1 and ACORN 2 and created this transformative graph below.

1952 had more hot days than any year since. Not any more. All those poor sods in 1952 who endured an average twenty one 40-degree-plus days will find now that it wasn’t really that hot. The BoM is like an air conditioner that cools the country 70 years in the past. And it’s only a million dollars a day…

As Craig Kelly MP points out — 2011 had the fewest “very hot days” of the last century, but even the recent data from expert equipment can change eight years later.

  1. So the Aussie Bureau of Meteorology is as Orwellian as Environment Canada.
An omission is as good as a lie and no news is Fake News.

  2. The point, dear Comrades, is that who measures temperature and how does not matter. What matters is who interprets temperature records and how.

  3. Black lock reported the same kind of change for Canada by environment Canada! Taking the warmest and changing them on average 4 degrees Celsius cooler! They basically wiped out the actual data from 1850 to 1949!
Catherine McKenna ordering this , referring to as the new type of modeling !

    1. Yes, it is an old type of data modelling referred in undergraduate circles as “data fudging”, and when one was caught committing that infraction, the mark for the lab was generally “zero”.

  4. But we have to believe the science. What ? Are you some type of climate science DENIER?
Then you must be burned at the stake for heresy!!! DENIER , DENIER, DENIER !!!
I could be mistaken, but the scientific method I was taught, way back in the late 70s, was that you used ALL of the DATA, and adjusted your theory to explain a phenomena. The OPPOSITE method, one that cherry picks data, and eliminates data that doesn’t fit the conclusion; that would be known as POLITICAL science. Political science being an artform – one of deception and salesmanship. Almost like a religion.

    1. The OPPOSITE method, one that cherry picks data, and eliminates data that doesn’t fit the conclusion

Sometimes, one can get away with disregarding outliers, attributing them to measurement error or some such thing. I guess our weather office data had a century’s worth of them.

The term “political science” reminds me of some of the post-match interviews on the old Stampede Wrestling. The wrestlers would tell Ed Whalen that the methods they used in the ring in order to win (e. g., eye-gouging, nose-tweaking, etc.) were “scientific” techniques. Whalen, of course, did his best to keep a straight face through all of it.

      1. Ah Stampede Wrestling; Sweet Daddy Zeekie always had the same answer for every question,
        “No chancy Mr. Whelen”
The temperature adjustments have 1 purpose-smoothing the record highs of the past to make the present appear warmer.
        “No chancy Mr. Whelen”

        1. To me, the best interviews with Ed Whelen were with Gene Kiniski.
To this day, whenever the question is posed: Who is Canada’s Greatest Athlete?” My response is “Gene Kiniski, of course”

Great trip down memory lane though. Eric Frohlich, Bad Boy Shields, Haystack Calhoun,

    2. My physics professor called it … “Dry labbing”. And when he caught you doing it, you were given a ‘D’ and made to do the experiment over again. He insisted you learn WHY your failed experiment produced results which defied all laws of physics … not that you insist Sir Issac Newton was WRONG. Yes, Newton is an old dead white man … but …

      1. You can watch it happen in real time. I took a screen shot from Weather Underground and photos of our outdoor weather station readings during -18 F air temp which was a record for us. A few days later I looked it up in history on the site and it had been “corrected ” to -7 F with a “record low historically of -8”. Saw this happen for some other data points that same winter. We’ve been 10 -20 degrees below normal this fall but you’d never know from the “history”.

  5. Welcome to 1984 comrades where the Ministry of Truth will tell you the truth, at least till tomorrow when a different truth becomes the official truth. When book burning becomes acceptable again I’m sure that is a title that will be on the list.

  6. I have no doubt history is being, wiped, altered and invented.

    But this comment

“They’re averages because there were 57 ACORN station in 1910 and 112 by 1976.

The presumed bureau method would be to calculate all the tallies for each year and then divide those annual sums by whatever number of stations were contributing each year – i.e. averages.

“A bit dodgy because it’s influenced by how many or what proportion of stations were in hot v cold climates in 1910 compared to 1976 and every year in between, but these are the official BoM calculations using ACORN 2 so they are very precise measurements beyond questioning by sceptics.” from Chris Gillham, imho, is out of place in this climategate discussion.

    Skepticism is healthy.

This practice (of throwing out inconvenient climate data) is perhaps more wide spread than most of us are aware. Here in Canada, our government has just thrown out all weather data from 1850 to 1949, claiming that there weren’t enough weather stations to create a reliable data set for that 100-year period. Therefore the observed historical data was replaced with modeled data!!!
The outcome…24 models from historical simulations are now used as the data for the new climate models. In short, Canada’s climate models are based on data from models with little to no actual climate data used.
Is it any wonder why the output from Canadian models is among the worst of all model projections?
Other countries tampering with their data include the Antarctic, Greenland, Iceland, and of course the U.S. along with Canada and Australia.
How long will this be allowed to go on?”
(Interesting how little publicity this got. Where are our curious reporters? )

  8. The recent “Canada in a Changing Climate Report” is as misleading as the Aussie data.

For example, it says that “There have been more extreme hot days and fewer extreme cold days” but you have to dive into the weeds to find out that they start the clock at 1948. This allows them to ignore the hotter temperatures in the 1920’s and 1930’s although they admit that credible records for the earlier decades exist for Southern Canada, coast to coast.

They also claim that Canada’s warming has been “roughly twice the increase observed for the Earth as a whole.” This is trivially true for the vast majority of the global landmass because the Earth is about 70% oceans which have warmed more slowly than land.

  9. Under socialism—or any other globalist ideology, actually—the future is known and the hardest thing to predict is the past.

  10. This, yet another, scientific offence is egregious, but it won’t matter, as the climate is getting cooler, and people are very slowly noticing. I am freezing in Vancouver this fall and can hardly wait for my snowbird flight … oh, wait, the desert down south just had unseasonable frost!!!

Wait for it. The narrative will soon change. They will next have to cook the cooling data.
Cold weather is actually more scary, so we will soon be back to the 70’s future of a global cooling climate “emergency”. Then all the data will have to be re-cooked to fit the new scary no sunspots scenario. Maybe there was a good reason why our ancestors worshiped the sun god.

  11. What fine employees we retain, not content with stealing, they now openly deceive, slander and impugn the citizens.
And after freeloading off of us dummies for decades they insist we “owe them” a pension.
Yet ask any one of them to perform their stated duties and all hell breaks lose.On you.
Environment Canada is one of those federal overreach bureaus that can be completely destroyed, along with Education,health..damn near all of them.
For these are all Provincial Powers and responsibilities.

These corrupt institutions all work together to destroy rule of law.For so many of the offences we may commit are not in law but regulation, whose interpretation is totally up to the minion you face.
The “Supreme Court” has ruled repeatedly, that the “officer” is judge jury and executioner..bend over subject.

  12. Paging Terry Etam. Gee Terry, I guess the people who did this just aren’t the good environmentalists, eh?

  13. They can lie all they want but when the food shortages come the pitch forks will come out. Folks will quickly figure out who needs the tar and feathers

  14. “Folks will quickly figure out who needs the tar and feathers”

Newsflash! Folks will be using the tar for heat/light and the feathers to insulate themselves from the freezing cold.
I’m betting that piano wire and lampposts will be repurposed though.
