It’s the weekend. Go have fun. See a movie. You might even like it.

What’s really got the justice critics worked up, however, isn’t the violence or the nostalgia or the silencing of Sharon Tate. What’s rattling them more than they realize is that this movie is transgressive as hell. Only Tarantino would have the balls to make something like it, something that embraces values that have repeatedly been proved—proved!—to be dangerous, outdated, the thing that people don’t want anymore. Box-office poison.

    So-called health transfers don’t even fund healthcare. Provinces spend the $ where they want.

    Increased transfers has done nothing to solve waiting lists over the past two decades.

  7. Saw “Once Upon a Time..” Last night. It’s definitely a love letter to the Hollywood of the 60’s. Tarantino doesn’t set a foot wrong. I dare anyone to find a vehicle, in any shot, that’s not period correct. The climax is shockingly brutal, yet funny at the same time. In the end, I put it below Jackie Brown, Reservoir Dogs, and Pulp Fiction, but above the rest. It’s a good yarn.

      1. I was like that many years ago. I could enjoy art for its own sake, no matter how much I disagreed with or disliked the artist. I loved the folk music of Joan Baez and Pete Seeger, despite the political overtones. I even perversely strove to find beauty in the poetry of Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti.
        But honestly, I cannot do that anymore. I don’t want to see a movie starring DiCaprio and puke every time I see his face.
        Perhaps I was a better person then, I am not sure. But my eyes have been opened, and I realize just how much evil those people contribute.

    It’s a slow but interesting read.

    1. It is not economic to do selective cutting. Margins are thin and woodlands operations are all mechanized and large scale in order to compete. Clearcutting is the only way to be profitable. It is like asking a farmer to grow little plots of wheat in a meadow/forest mixedwood and ask him to harvest with a scythe. Let it burn. That is what it has evolved to do and that is that forest’s purpose. Like the rural French expression “a window’s purpose is to break”, so it is with California (and boreal) forest. And put in 500 to 1000 m wide fireguards around human settlements and graze those breaks to keep them as grassland.

      1. All towns in the bush should have 1 km buffers with no trash and minimum coniferous. And houses in the bush should have no combustible external finishes.

In 2019, debates would include leaders of political parties that meet two of the following three criteria At the time the general election in question is called, the party is represented in the House of Commons by a Member of Parliament who was elected as a member of that party.

    That is a rule written to address precisely one person — Maxime Bernier.

    That’s the rule now. Trudeau says so. Even if the media want it otherwise; even if all the party leaders want it otherwise.

    In the past, those were all private decisions. But now there’s actually a government commission for debates.

    And — extra gross — they’ve appointed former Governor General David Johnston to run it. Why is he doing errands for Trudeau?

    And look at the news today:

    Who will be the reporters shaping the questions, shaping the themes? It’s Trudeau’s pets.

    Here’s the government’s list of approved journalists:

    CBC News, Radio-Canada, Global News, CTV News, The Toronto Star and the Torstar chain, HuffPost Canada, HuffPost Quebec, La Presse, Le Devoir, and L’Actualité.

    So, the Ottawa-Toronto-Montreal establishment. Five out of the ten institutions are based in Quebec. Two are state broadcasters. The newspapers are bail-out media from Trudeau’s $600 million election bribe.

    (a Christian psychotherapist in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound) has just been ‘disqualified’.

    Gillies was eliminated for a comment on her book, but was reinstated when appealed.

    Then, she was ’disqualified again. Her only conclusion why was: “A source close to the party, whose identity she won’t reveal, told Gillies her public criticism of the LGBTQ agenda and transgender ideology was her undoing.”

    1. Re: Scheer and his medical funding increase. Increasing doctor’s income from $500,000 to $600,000 per annum has never solved the health care problem and never will. Increases in funding are quickly taken by greedy hands, never by an increase in service. About 20 or so years ago Alberta increased health care funding by 13% and wait times went up.

    1. They get $3.8 million a year (from the Federal government) but they don’t make a profit so they don’t have to pay taxes so they don’t have to file a tax return. Can I use that logic in my business?

      1. That is not true.. The Non-profit just means that ALL assets are distributed internally within the same Year… No carry forward of profit or assets. A non-Profit just spends everything on themselves.. but the individual must report all the money they obtained

        The S Corporation in the USA has the same conditions, but they must report distributions

    Reminds me of when Jan Reimer as Edmonton’s mayor had city council pass the same bylaw declaring Edmonton a nuclear free zone.

    My letter to editor said that it was gr8 to see them do that.
