  1. Canadian Spies See Their Vast New Powers As A Tool To Fight Foreign Influence Campaigns

    “While CSIS cannot discuss the precise nature of our investigations, CSIS actively investigates any threats to Canada’s democratic institutions and supports the (government’s) collective effort to respond accordingly,” wrote agency spokesperson John Townsend in a statement.

    Canada’s intelligence community has already identified foreign operations targeting the country’s “democratic institutions” ahead of the Oct. 21 election. The Communications Security Establishment, Canada’s cyber defence and espionage agency, has assessed it’s “very likely” that foreign actors will attempt to intervene in the election — although not at the scale seen in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

    CSIS was granted “threat reduction” powers by the former Conservative government in anti-terror reforms in 2015.

    The Liberal government has reined in those powers, requiring the agency to take only “reasonable” actions “proportionate” to the threat, outlining a list of acceptable disruption activities, and seeking a warrant for any action that violates Charter rights

      1. The Ahmadiyya hardly represent any sort of Islamic threat. Relative to the worldwide Muslim population they constitute barely one percent and are mostly concentrated in the Indian subcontinent. They have traditionally suffered persecution and discrimination as heretics from both Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

        Still, if our Dear Leader is indeed in Toronto for a convention of Ahmadiyya Muslims, it’s an odd choice. In Christian terms, I doubt you would ever catch him attending a Jehovah’s Witness convention, or perhaps a Mormon one.

        2. There is a huge Ahmadi Muslim subdivision at Jane and Teston in Woodbridge (just north of Toronto). It is very insular, almost like a gated community, and built around a central mosque. Every home has a sign saying peace or love for all and hatred for none. The Ahmadi are the sane peaceful Muslims, not like the psychotic kill crazy Sunni and Shia. That’s why all the other Muslims want to kill them.
          If Trudeau is meeting with the Ahmadi it would be a positive change for him, but they should watch their backs.

    The hail storm in Guadalajara, Mexico, has shocked many who are calling it a freak storm. It has happened many times in various cities. The real concern is this fake research about global warming with the data being manipulated to pretend there is some linear trend.

    The real concern is that by heading into a solar minimum, we do have climate change underway, but this is headed toward a colder environment. The winters will get colder and the summers hotter as the volatility switches between the two extremes. We really should be creating strategic food reserves rather than ignoring the real trend.

    On the afternoon of July 2nd, Amanda Galbraith was walking along Richmond Street. Her day was brutally interrupted and she took to Twitter to upload a photo of the construction site which the offending men were on.

    Amanda is also the former spokesthingy for John Tory so you’d think a communications specialist would answer our email checking in on her.

    While Amanda isn’t communicating, the construction company responsible for the site sure are.

    PCL Construction has already tweeted this:

  11. There was a cheap ad at the back of comic books, 60 years ago when I was a kid, depicting a sad man leaning on a lamp post, watching well-dressed people walk by, bright and happy. The caption read “Do you often wonder if it is good seeing people pass you up in life?”. (The ad went on about sighting up for correspondence school, etc.). The ad frightened me, for at that young age I started worrying about a career, worried I would grow up to be like that sad man.

    Anyways, I have often felt that conservatives were like that unhappy man, idly watching the leftist establishment passing us by — rich, happy and powerful. I concede that many conservatives in Canada try — the many blogs are a good example, and there are a few organizations, with paid staff — trying to fight the good fight. But, let’s face it, the left-wing action groups have the conservative advocacy organizations out-moneyed and out-organized by a country mile.

    A case in point is the issue of the social media, and its role in the forthcoming election. This is a contentious issue — and my view is that (a) federal funding of the establishment media and (b) the policing of conservative internet media (by the federal government, its media allies, and the big tech oligopolies) will be enough to swing the fall election to a Liberal-Green-NDP coalition victory.

    So what gets me is that the friends of Canadian Broadcasting — a left-wing lobby group with close-knit connections to the CBC — has just started an anti-Facebook campaign to lobby the federal government to place special taxes on Facebook income:

    where much of it advocacy is to increase funding for the CBC (how can that be?).

    But as a conservative economist who loathes Mark Zuckerberg and his Facebook corporation, I wouldn’t mind a tax on this dreadful company. As I write, Mark Zuckerberg is probably consorting with federal Liberal government honchos to rig the September election. I haven’t kept up with the scare stories about what is happening at Facebook, but the ultra-pc corporation — based as it is in California — has hired legions of jackbooted Arts grads to help police Facebook against conservative groups. Zuckerberg himself is politically to the left of Chinese Premier Xi.

    I am just saying. To be fair, Friends of Canadian Broadcasting is lobbying the Trudeau Liberals on behalf of the left-wing corporate news broadcasters — all of who are stridently anti-conservative. But so is Facebook! So here we have a well-established Friends of Canadian Broadcasting attacking a left-wing corporation.

    And I feel that, on the issue of the social-media in Canada, we conservatives are like that man in the comic book ad, watching the world pass us by.

    Who do the British neoliberals think they are fooling when they hypocritically condemn China for insufficiently respecting democracy in Hong Kong?
    The UK has been accused of brazen hypocrisy after raising concerns about the state of democracy and human rights in Hong Kong, a former British colony once ruled by unelected colonial governors. Beijing denounced British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt as “shameless,” after Hunt declared that the UK would “stand behind the people of Hong Kong in defense of [their] freedoms” amid protests over a controversial extradition law with China.

    The British haven’t always been so concerned about “protecting democracy” in Hong Kong, however. Before the city was handed over to China in 1997, Hong Kong was a British colony and administered by an unelected, and always British, governor.

    The glaring double-standard is clearly hypocritical, former US diplomat Jim Jatras told RT.

    I’m sad to say that not only the British but the American and most other Western governments – ‘hypocrisy’ should be part of the official title of how they conduct their affairs, how they deal with human rights issues at home, and then how they will use any pretext to support things like color revolutions.

    The British are currently ruled by the unelected European Commission and they never allowed elections in Hong Kong while they ruled it. Why on Earth should China, or anyone else, pay any attention to their pious virtue-signaling now?

      Even if there was a capital gain, it will be totally exempt if the former owner can demonstrate three things: 1) the property can be designated to have been his/her principal residence for all years owned; 2) the owner was a resident of Canada for the entire time he/she owned the property; 3) no other property was designated as a principal residence by either the owner or his/her spouse during the years being designated as such now.

      That being said, this is a huge nuisance. For long-term owners, the information about exact date (or even year) of purchase and the purchase price may be unobtainable. I’ve hit that for a couple of clients. Even more fun is when a property is not – for whatever reason – able to be designated as the principal residence and the original cost, etc., become very relevant when said property is sold and has to be reported on the former owner’s T1.

  25. Before Great Leader Groper speaks to his muslim buddies this afternoon, he spoke to union leaders and members. Many of the unions present announced their support for him in the coming election. My only question is why are taxpayers paying for his election trips.

    1. The PM has to be guarded at all times, no matter where he has to go, for whatever reason. It used to bug me too about how the PM squanders taxpayers’ money. I’m not defending the creep because some days, frankly I don’t give a damn anymore.

      The regular bobble head MPs bother me more. They are a waste of space and money.

  26. A Toronto TV station was excited at Justin’s speech before muslims today. Our prime minister trashed Canada as he ranted that racism and islamophobia is running rampant in Canada. It was followed by a commercial from the teacher’s union trashing Doug Ford.
