      1. Well a whole new business can open up, charging drained electrics. Personally I only ran out of gas once(and I am embarrassed still to admit it). That was back 25 years ago. I ran out because I was travelling from Ontario through Quebec to my home in NB and I didn’t want to buy gas in Quebec. How vindictive was I? However I was in NB when it happened and there was a gas station just a couple of miles down the road.

    1. A better idea would be to tow your little car within 25 miles of your destination, then drive it over to your environmental electro sucking, liberal friends to show them how green you are.

  5. My thought is that all electrics should be hybrids with not a 60 hp engine but a 6 hp Briggs and Strattonish engine to provide range, emergency charging and winter heat.

  7. Like John Horgan grinding about AB cutting them off from what they want cut off….hydrocarbons. Grease makes the wheels go round and not squeak, John. Try whale oil as as a substitute. Or salmon, trout, if you’re so inclined. Or better yet pine oil. You’ve got lotsa that stuff just lying around, waiting to be used. Try them all outside the Lower Mainland in winter, on the Coquihalla. Just don’t try them in an aircraft to fly between Victoria and anywhere else. Use Haida paddlers and take the Slow Route. Wear your grass rain cape too, John.

          Plus Americans would go apoplectic at another pipeline spoiling the wilderness.

          What makes you think this would be successful?

          And who would pay for it?

      Demand? What will they do, stomp their little feet while oil companies jack the price up to pay for what they want? Meanwhile they are down wind of China’s CO2 and ship 37 MILLION tonnes of coal to China annually, to keep the lights on there.

        1. Won’t work until the CRA whacks all those Hongcouver types filling up in Blaine, WA and not paying the GST, BC and Fed taxes on US(Canadian crude) gas.

          Strange, those same BCers whine about AB gasoline (dirty oil), when Blaine get’s it’s “gas” and jet fuel, direct from Seattle refineries using a goodly chunk of AB crude to make the stuff. The only pipeline running into Seattle is from Canada. DUH! Alaska crude makes up the shortfall from an outdated pipeline (Trans Mountain), whose expansion would alleviate the shortfall. Seattle refiners love it when we fight among ourselves. Alaska does, too.

          I can only come to the conclusion that a lot of Canadians are STUPID!

          1. There are no refineries in Seattle. The three refineries in Washington state are all north of Victoria, two in Anacortes and one in Ferndale. All their crude comes from Alberta, Alaska and occasionally Russia.

        2. Do that, and slap a sticker on all of the gas pumps showing what percentage of the price the stupid tax is.

          Give them what they want, good and hard.

        BCs carbon tax is approx 8 cents/litre (I think). Gasoline sales in B.C. are over 5 billion litres a year. So that’s another $400 million a year.

        Lots of money already collected Vancouver!

        If Washington state was smart they’d put a tax on all gasoline sales to out of state plates. 🙁 They would make lots of money from Vancouveritres.

    3. The thing about B.C. is in Vancouver it’s all Toyota Prius and 5 minutes outside Vancouver it’s all pickup truck.

    The diesel generator is cleaner than the coal powered plant that the car is normally charged from.
    He’s just trying to save the planet….

    …well those are wood chips and pellets from the usa that come by DIESEL SHIPS…then they are BURNED

    so when you drive an electric car in England you emit wood smoke…not where the car is of course,

    but it is still you who emit the co2 and pollution and smoke from the burned wood when you recharge your “””zero emission””” batteries on your “””zero emission”””car with electricity produced from BURNING WOOD imported from the USA on DIESEL SHIPS

    ZERO EMISSION is a fraud just like global warming is a fraud

  16. Timbuk 3. Can you all just stop making arguments based on the “environment”, or pointing out environmental ironies? Electric cars have nothing to do with the environment; the internal combustion engine and the car as we know it, are about freedom. Pure, unadulterated, uncontrollable freedom.
    Get in when you want.
    Get out when you want.
    Go when you want.
    Go as far as you want.
    Go on any path you want.
    Stop when you want.
    Take whomever you want with you.
    Drive solo, carpool, whatever.
    Fix your car yourself.
    Paint your car yourself.

    Electric cars are about taking freedom away; power, central planning, and control. Plain and simple.

    It is not too far off where permits will be required to drive to the next town.
