  1. In many American states the required public high school history curriculum leaves out the founding of the country the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. The better to indoctrinate them with how racist and malevolent the American republic is. The emphasis is on the so-called progressive era and later ( surprise! ). You know, when all the liberal heroes like Wilson started ruining America, and the world.

  2. Americans are loosing interest in the Civil War because as time goes by there are fewer Americans who have a connection to the civil war. Do they think that people whose connection to America began with their Mexican illegal immigrant grandfather, or their Chinese anchor baby mom care about events in America 175 year ago? Why would they?

The teachers want communism, but don’t expect a Khmer Rouge-style communist revolution coming in and associated “Year Zero” implemented where all whom they deem “intellectuals” get executed – and this means all teachers who haven’t resigned early to be the people who massacre the other teachers and educated people. Most of the Progressives think “When the Revolution Comes”, they will be the ones deemed to be smart enough and talented enough to be asked to lead the population. They don’t realise that they will be one of the many targets to be liquidated as they have goals and ideals that the new rulers are not going to actually implement and they will just be in the way of a traditional ‘communist’ regime.

  4. I will be visiting the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten, The Netherlands in September. My mother’s cousin is buried there as he was killed 12 days before the end of WWII. My mother specifically asked that I go there to pay the family respects if I ever returned to Europe. She is gone now but I will fulfill her request. She told me that the family was never the same after Dennis was killed.

    Dennis tried to join up at 16 and was sent home. He came back the next year and joined the Rocky Mountain Rangers and was sent to the Aleutians to help throw the Japanese out. He transferred to the Canadian Scottish Regiment and was sent to England. Landed at D-Day and was part of the group that pushed the furthest inland from Juno Beach. Reading the Regimental history the number of battles these young men fought in was stunning. He was killed by a mortar round 12 days before the end of the war but only 4 days before hostilities for the Regiment ended.

    He was featured in a story done by Matthew Halton dated January 21st, 1945, “Just Another Night Patrol”. You cannot read this story without tears. Such brave men who would have little sympathy for what passes as modern society today. I will never forget. As a ‘Boomer’ I have led a very privileged life and I owe the “Greatest Generation” thanks for that.

      Methinks there may be need again of such men in the near future. I just don’t think the spirit and fortitude survives in our current stock. I am GenX and pretty much already to old to fight. I don’t think any generation younger than mine has it in them.

    3. My moms brother died flying a Typhoon a few days before the end. I believe he is buried in Holton as well. 21 years old. Shot down a few times. We have his log book. Typhoons were extremely dangerous to fly, but the Germans hated them as well. He was on his last mission when his cockpit exploded from an 88 anti-aircraft shell.So sad.

    We also all know the power of indoctrination.
    When groups start “self-segregating” does it give rise to suspicion and distrust?
    When those who are thoroughly indoctrinated by those who have created false history start acting we will see – as just one example – former heroes or leaders torn down and disrespected, their monuments vandalized, their actions denounced and their words demonized and their people culpable.

  9. “Heroes of the Second World War” is an important, privately-funded, recent initiative to film interviews with WWII combat veterans (link below) – almost all the veterans are American but at least one is Canadian. When asked whether it was worth their sacrifice and the loss of so many of their friends, sadly but not surprisingly, many say it was not given the way the U.S. has evolved since the end of WWII.

  11. The Civil War was the only war the America ever won. That’s because they were on both sides. I’ve mentioned this to my American friends, and most of them agree.

    1. Although it does seem to be the case that the colonies became an independent, sovereign state around 1783. It must have been due to the peace process that began near Concord and Lexington in 1775.

    2. I used to say, when I was serving in BAOR, that was the German strategy after losing two world wars. They were sure to be on the winning side in the third, because they were on both sides. But reunification has fixed that.

    3. Mike in White Rock: You are wrong. The Americans won WWII in the Pacific, which began on Dec. 7, 1941 with the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. They did so with virtually no help from allies. Indeed, without the American presence in the southern Pacific, specifically at Guadalcanal, the Japanese could have easily over run Australia and New Zealand in 1942-1943.

      2. Yes, Ottawa MJ, but don’t forget Canada declared war on Japan before the US did. And that Canada has troops stationed in Hong Kong (started with Winnipeg Grenadiers and the Royal Rifles of Canada from Quebec City but additions of new, inexperienced troups joined them in November, 1941 )who fought valiantly but were overcome by Japanese forces on Christmas Day, 1941. The Japanese celebrated Christmas day by bayoneting wounded Allied soldiers in hospital, killing and raping nurses, and committing other atrocities. Some POW’s were shipped to Japan where they suffered extreme privations. It took many years after the end of the war for the Canadian government finally recognized that the conditions of their imprisonment were such that the survivors (and they were relatively few by that time, the privations they had suffered being such that they all had serious health problems) should receive extra compensation to help them through their last years.

Frances: I do not forget the brutality shown to Canadians by the Japanese, nor the callousness of the Canadian government after the war for essentially letting the Japanese off the hook for these war crimes. Our prime minister should issue a formal apology to the survivors, the victims and their families for failing to vigorously pursue the Japanese government for punishment of the guilty, and for reparations.

        2. I believe Japan declared war on the US and the British Empire (including Canada) at the same time, so we did not in fact precede the Americans into that war.

  14. Americans are no better than Canadians when it comes to outsourcing education to the state. If you don’t want socialist (progressive) outcomes don’t send your kids to public schools. Failing that, support a political party that advocates privatizing education. If not, you get what you (are forced to) pay for! No different than the CBC.

  15. I’m not sure what the greater problem is: not remembering/understanding history, or lacking the analytical ability to figure out that cheering for a particular political party come hell or high water has more serious consequences than diehard support for your favourite hockey team.

    But I guess it boils down to the same thing, eh? Terminal Stupidity.
