In my experience, judges are a skeptical lot. If you can plausibly call into question the accuracy of the evidence then you’ll likely get off.

In a recent local arrest for murder the suspect was arrested at his place of employment. I questioned a retired cop about why he wasn’t arrested at home. Cop said ” A man’s home is his castle…police are not permitted to enter”

Someone put an ad in Kijiji that offered my house for rent at a ridiculously low price. We called the police and they did nothing. People get harrassing scam phone calls from crooks pretending to be CCRA and the police do nothing. We’ve also seen in other discussion threads here that they have no duty of care to protect you from criminal violence.

OTOH … I was almost run off the freeway by a severely DRUNK DRIVER who just happened to get off on my hometown exit. I followed him into a supermarket parking lot, and then into the supermarket. I asked the store manager to call the police … who arrived just after this man got back into his car and drove to an adjacent supermarket through the parking lot. The police confronted the man as he got out of his car. To my shock and horror, the police did NOT even administer a field sobriety test … but literally called the man a cab and sent him home. I was OUTRAGED!! This alcoholic PRICK could have killed me and my young family … or anyone else. And my local police did NOTHING but let him go.
I had confronted the man in the first store (made a bit of a scene) asking him why he thought it was OK to drunk drive … more like WASTED drive … as the man could barely stand up let alone walk. He reeked of booze and looked to pass out at any moment. He screamed at me to mind my own business … this from the man who could have killed my whole family. Asshole boozers!!

Over the Christmas holidays I was stopped at spot checks between my house and where my son works (to pick him up and drop him off at work) 8 times and that was before the legislation changed.

No, it’s even simpler than that … the local police officer was lazy. We have no jail in our little town, and actually have no police force. Our town contracts out to the County Sheriffs Dept. who have an “outpost” police station in town. In order to arrest this DRUNK … the officer would have to drive the perp all the way to the County Jail and process him. Too much work. So he just called him a cab. Lazy. Lazy police.

Quite a while ago I was stopped at a check stop. The cop asked if I’d been drinking.
I said “no sir. I have not had a drink in three days.”
“Why are you driving?”
“I was shopping and now I’m going home”
“Well you’re driving with only one head light so I’m going to have to right you up, and you cannot drive your vehicle any further until its fixed”.
“Beg your pardon officer, it was working fine when I left the shopping center.”

“Simple, I was parked up against a wall, and when I turned on my lights there were two big white spotlights on the garage wall.” I replied

I got out of my car, went to the front of the car and looked. both headlights were on. I turned to the officer, folded my arms, cocked my head to the side and said, “Well officer?”
At that point a sergeant came up and asked “what’s going on?”
I said “this officer is telling me one headlight is out, but…” and I pointed at two lit head lights.
I looked back at the sergeant. Then the officer said “see see its out.”
We all looked and both headlights were on.
The officer said “there must be a loose connection”, and then tapped the light, which was on, with his baton. Tinkle, the light was off, the cop had broken it.
I turned to the sergeant. “It seems to me and you saw it, the light was working fine, until this officer hit it with his baton.”
The officer said “Sarge. we can’t let him drive home with an unsafe car.”
The Sargeant asked “where do you live sir”
I was a block away from my apartment. “That building over there.” and I pointed.
“Ok, drive home, and please get it fixed tomorrow.”
I got in my car quietly muttering f**king ass****s
I safely pulled out into the driving lane and immediately another cop jumped out, hand upraised yelling “stop, stop, stop”.
At this point the sergeant ran up yelling, “let him go, we broke his head light”
I wish we had iphones back then so I could have recorded the whole incident.
Here’s the next scenario. Someone rats you out for alleged distracted driving. Cops come to your house and demand you give up your phone so they can scroll through your timeline and connect it to your drive time. Now is up to you to prove your innocence.
