  1. IF we ever get the entire border fenced/walled, it will be interesting to see the change in tactics of the smugglers, etc.

  2. Yeah let’s ignore the fact that the majority of illegal immigrants are visa overstays. Let’s ignore the existence of ladders and tunnels and boats. Better instead pay attention to one random dude’s anecdote from 20 years ago.

At the end of the day, regardless of your views of immigration, the fact is that Trump wants to spend $100 billion to reduce immigration by AT BEST 5%. From a fiscally conservative point of view, it’s simply a terrible use of taxpayer dollars.

      1. Remember we’re talking about the government here. Standard rule of thumb is to take their estimate (time and cost) and double it.

        1. Building this wall was Trump’s number One campaign promise. This was what Donald Trump was elected to do.
It is how the Americans who elected him want their taxes spent.*
And NO, it will not be spent to keep IMMIGRANTS out. It will be spent to keep Illegal Aliens out.

*(ignoring the other side of the coin of this same promise which was that Mexico would pay for the wall)

” Standard rule of thumb is to take their estimate (time and cost) and double it.”

Sophistry. The number on the table is $5B. The numbers you used are pulled straight out of your ass.
Donald Trump is NOT the government America is used to. All previous rules of thumb are null and void.

        2. 116 billion a year, the estimated cost for welfare of illegals. 72% of whom are on welfare in CA alone.

      2. the thing is, leftist cant or wont cite their sources.
because a small qty of brain matter isnt part of the normal citation process.
besides which, it comes from the ‘opinion’ section, not the ‘well informed well known factual information’ part.
some leftist dont have that part, it having been displaced by the opinion part, nicknamed ‘dont confuse me with the facts’ part.

    1. The wall will work. They work wherever they are properly employed. But nice try at kicking dirt over the problem.

    2. By “random dude” do you mean someone who spent a career in the Border Patrol, the service that actually deals with the problem he’s talking about? By “anecdote from 20 years ago” did you mean his experience of a couple of decades of doing that work full time?

Because “random dude” seems me more like you, and compared to that “anecdote from 20 years ago” what you posted sounds like vague tangential assertion pulled out of your arse.

Can a border wall work? How many people escaped the DDR while the Inner German Border and the Berlin Wall were in place? How many more went west, even just for a visit, after those walls were removed?

Your remarks could equally have been made by a liar or a fool. Or they could have been made by someone who is both.

    3. I love the ladder excuse. So your going to have the illegals stumbling thru the desert with a 30 ft ladder, of which Andrew has NO idea how heavy that is after many miles, climbing to the top and straddling a well designed uncomfortable perch then awkwardly pulling the heavy ladder up and trying to stand it on the other side? Then when your super hero gets down on the other side the ladder’s now useless to anyone else because you can’t get it back for the other hombres.
You live in a CARTOON world Andrew.

      1. the thing is boots, leftists have no friggin concept of ladder weight, unlike blokes like me who grew up in a time of wooden ladders as opposed to aluminum.
I called it my ‘daily workout at the free gym’.
while I was on top of said ladder in below zero temps, the leftists were sipping coffee at the bistro clucking away about ‘equality’ or wtf.

the personal payoff of those 5 yrs is I have saved roughly 20 grand rewiring my own property MYSELF. sometimes on a ladder, but not in freezing weather. I did treat myself to more tolerable weather.

        1. Nah. They’ll cache the ladders just like the expeditions to the Antarctic over 100 years ago stored supplies along the way for the final group.

    4. Typical leftist who struggles with basic math and economics … the cost of the wall PALES in comparison to the direct cost of illegal immigrants burdening our taxpayer-funded welfare, housing, and medical programs. Add the indirect costs of depressed wages, falling education statistics, increased disease, etc … and the cost of a wall pales by comparison.

And let me correct one thing this retired border agent said in his concluding paragraphs … one does NOT NEED to live on the border to experience the horror of this invasion. There is ample evidence of the problem, here in the interior. Here in CA … every homeless encampment under every freeway overpass … and every visit to an emergency room where only Spanish is being spoken in the waiting room … reveals the CRISIS!!

      1. not to mention the tropical diseases that hitchhike on their carcasses.
what about those cost dear lefty? any of your kids at risk, lacking natural immunity to said pathogens?

        sound of crickets . . . . .

hi kenji, hope y’all had a good holiday season. I did, almost the whole ‘do list’ taken care of.

    5. Yeah let’s ignore the fact that the majority of illegal immigrants are visa overstays.

Liberals….too stupid to know how stupid that argument is

      …encourage them to do more

    6. How about the Andrews of the world just shut their yaps long enough to read the comments of border residents on the original post, about the improvements to their lives and security with the building of the existing sections of border fence/wall?

It astonishes me that some even try to debate the effectiveness of structures that have been in use since BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF RECORDED TIME.

      1. The Andrew’s of the world deep down KNOW the wall will work and that’s what scares them. If Trump gets the wall then he wins another term.

      2. Every time I hear the IDIOTIC soundbyte that … “We don’t need a 15th Century solution to a 21st Century problem” … I scream at my TV … “Since when is WALKING a 21st Century problem!@!@!??” These people are WALKING across the border!!! A “problem” far older than the 15th Century … you MOrons!!!

And anyone who has studied the most rudimentary HISTORY knows that WALLS WORK!! Everywhere they’ve been used across the entire planet and by ALL cultures. In fact, I would argue that WALLS … unite … mankind. In that EVERY culture, race, and people have built WALLS !!!

If we weren’t such a devolved IGNORANT culture in America … we wouldn’t even be having this “conversation”

    7. “Yeah let’s ignore the fact that the majority of illegal immigrants are visa overstays.”

No, let’s not ignore it. I would be willing to spend just as much money enforcing visa limits, so long as we also build the wall.

      There. Happy?

      1. Stop being so logical … next thing you know … Fackebook, Twitter, YouTube, et.al. will call you a HATER, RACIST, -PHOBE, and ban you for life.

      2. NO! There’ll NEVER be happy. It’s full time RESIST. The second Trump takes on the Visa Overstay issue the Dems and their Talking Point Sheep (Andrew, etc) will do a complete 180 and deny they EVER thought that was a problem. And again… you’re a RACIST.
Tucker had a great line tonight.
“The elites that now own the Democratic Party don’t need a wall…. they already have theirs”

    8. Trump wants to spend $100 billion to reduce immigration by AT BEST 5%….

…and stop illegal immigration and drugs walking over the southern border 100%

Liberals always ignore the drug part…and the thousands of illegals that die in the desert….but oh, the children

    9. Sounds Like a LIBERAL sound Bite….”immigration” .
I think the issue is Illegal Migration..?? And I’m sure he’d like to see it stopped 95% or Better…?

Just like 99.5% of us on this Blog would love to see said iLLEGAL MIGRATION permanently stopped here…Alas the UN and the rest of that Totalitarian pile of BS.

    10. Thanks for the made up numbers, Andy.

Every liberal’s true fear is that it would actually be very effective, and that’s why they, and you, oppose it.

    11. Good lord where do you get your data? Cost is 26 Billion, and the reduction of illegal entry will be closer to 95%. Stop watching garbage and research of which you speak.

    12. yup Andrew, the Joos are so stupid with their wall, and why don’t you run right over to Israel and tell them so. My questions is, why do ignoramuses like you keep posting illogical Shiite all the time. We are well aware of your stupidity and don’t have to be reminded. When border guards, local residents, and law enforcers say the wall will help reduce the flow, and when it does it will be easier to concentrate on the once who do cross, I’m sure people who are aware of the benefits will listen to an A$$ like you who has NO factual experience on the mater. Fact is, dimwit, at the crossing south of San Diego the wall is very effective, and it is a piece of shit, I seen it several times and know. So jackass, have you ever been down there?????????????

    13. The wall has been funded by the money saved during the shutdown. I say make it permanent.

  3. Let us ignore the fact that the retired border guard knows of what he speaks and you, dear Andrew, demonstrate that overwhelming combination of ignorance and arrogance that marks your “contributions” to these discussions.
    Who need walls?
You can design your home to be weather resistant while remaining totally accessible to all who desire entry.
Bet you won’t though. If you ever can afford to build one.
Ditto you cannot evict unwelcome guests, while allowing them reentry through other doors.
    What defines a nation?

    1. Here’s an idea!! Let’s just install a RING doorbell camera at the border … and just like the advertisements depict … we can tell the package thieves coming from Mexico to DROP THE PACKAGE, AND GET OFF OUR PORCH!! We don’t need “walls” … we just need a “high tech” solution on the border …

Oh!? What’s that you say? Our house needs WALLS and LOCKED DOORS before the doorbell camera makes any difference? Huh? interesting … how that works

  4. Well, Andrew, you have a point. The wall is just one element of a larger strategy to secure the border.

Most illegals overstayed tourist or student visas? Is that the problem? Fine. Make those visas impossible to get without a letter of invitation from someone willing to post a bond (let’s say US$1,000,000) to be forfeited if the applicant doesn’t leave before the date printed on his visa.

It will immediately become much easier for Americans to gain admission to university and to find a hotel room in a hurry.

  5. Let’s ignore the fact that you shouldn’t bother to deal with a problem at all unless you can solve all problems at the same time. And instead let’s just listen to some random dude’s advice about ignoring somebody who has actual knowledge of the situation.

Dude, do you think you’re persuading anybody with your nonsense?

  6. The “wall” is a political metaphor for two things. One, a mandate given Trump during the 2016 election thus “Trump’s Wall” and, the incredibly mundane notion of controlling a nation state’s border or, enforcing the rule of law (crazy talk, I know).

The left now supports open borders either due to the “other” being in power or as a conscious act of state nihilism and or the intentional use of illegals to eventually build the base. Interestingly the welfare state can exist in varying states of decline only without open borders. Given that we are not anywhere near a libertarian moment (unfortunately, IMHO) both the left and right are in favour of the continued bankrupt welfare state but it seems only those on the right are honest about it. The Dems are so much beyond that now as their sights are on ratcheting up socialism in a higher gear.

The issue of illegal immigration on the Southern border is essentially a political groundhog day. Reagan tried immigration reform by granting amnesty first then relying on the Democrats promise to follow up with border security. We know how that worked out and I doubt that building another section or not will change the script.

    1. Speaking as a rather STRIDENT member of … “Trump’s base” … let me say you are 100% correct. Of course “The Wall” is a metaphor. A metaphor for reconstituting the BORDER(s) of America. Therefore, reconstituting America itself and putting a HALT to the Trojan Horses installed across this country.

My Presidential plea: Don’t BACK DOWN !!!

  7. Why does anyone bother replying to Andrew? Literally copies and pastes the same reply to wverything since like 1975. It’s just troll acount number N.

Heck, Andrew and Unme may well be the same troll sock puppeting.

    1. Well Kevin, sparring makes for a better fighter and also, I’ve said this many times before, there are lurkers who may not have had the points we make here communicated to them before.
Additionally, many lurkers and first timers may have been going through life thinking their thoughts are part of a tiny powerless minority. Taking on the talking points of Big Brother and showing that they can be countered gives them hope and strength.

  8. The Drug Cartels enforce their own Territory in New Jersey (lots of Bodies found in Car Trunks), but it is Law enforcement in California that does that enforcement work with help from the corrupt US 9th circuit… Remember that the 9th circuit controls ALL the Pacific (water) access…..BAD… The Drug dealers are released back on the streets ASAP

Getting rid of the Corruption by the US 9th circuit & a Wall will STOP drug cartels & Prostitution… Both MUST be eliminated….one without the other is just a temporary patch

  9. I still think that, bringing the shithole called Mexico to their knees and making them Trump’s bitch would be a better strategy. “Bombs for wetbacks” plan would require USAF to drop a bomb on a random Mexican government building everytime an illegal crosses from Mexico. Take out a few, and Mexicans would be hanging their own leaders if they weren’t building the walls.
Also, all illegals regardless of country of origin should be dumped in Mexico and we can let that bastion of civilization take care of them.
Turd worlders need to know their place.

  10. Too late. He should have got it done immediately.

Like Harper getting rid of the CBC. Missed his chance.

    1. All money bills must originate in Congress. Says so in the Constitution. RINO wreckers in Congress prevented it.
Why do you think President Trump has partially shut down the U.S. Government? Just for shits and giggles?
How is the wall supposed to get the funding? From Mexico?

    2. I’m not so sure. The one thing the threat of the wall has done, has been to put a spotlight on the issue. Each side is moving further to one end (Dems for more immigration, Reps for less). The next election will be the deciding factor. If Trump wins, expect a very big wall. If Trump loses expect immigration chaos.

The wall is partially a metaphor. You threaten to build a wall. You add to the existing wall. You arrest more people. You give harsher penalties for illegals who commit crimes. They start to get the message. You start over, ever reducing the amount of illegals. Then, you throw a bone to the nice illegals who have been in the country for years.

  11. As many of you know, I am not a Trump fan at all. His lack of respect towards the constitution and office will never turn me.

However on this wall business, he has a point. Might be inflated by the usual Trumpism, but there really is no point in not having a well built border.

    1. “As many of you know, I am not a Trump fan at all. His lack of respect towards the constitution and office will never turn me. However on this wall business, he has a point…there really is no point in not having a well built border.”

Exactly. Allan s. Trump is a swaggering dickhead, but he’s a LOT smarter and has more guts that our sissy dickheads (yup, plural…you can throw Scheer-the-steer in with turdo la doo).

      1. Agreed. All must recognize that Trump is not some nice guy “here to help” He’s doing precisely what the American Voters want him to do. Look after America FIRST…anyone doing dealings with him must have as a prerequisite, that FACT rammed into their thick SKULLS. As for the Wall – BUILD IT – Man it.

Our missing link of a UN run PM never had a clue….Ha, that we would have someone with only one of Trumps BALLS….?? But Until the West Separates, we will never EVER see that.

We get to chose between Lib Lite (CPC) – LIBERAL – Lib heavy (NDP)…all a pile of Leftist Leaning Socialist UN lovin klunts that will likely keep our bordr open and continue to kiss UN (_i_)…except for Max & damnit, I just can’t vote for him this time around. Holding my nose for scheer…..

        1. “All must recognize that Trump is not some nice guy “here to help” ”

He is also the only champion of western civilization that counts on the global scale.

    2. Yeah it’s shocking for elitist dick heads like you to actually see a politician doing what the people want.

  12. The argument against the wall is not based on its merits as an obstacle; it’s based on objecting to the idea of the wall itself.

A wall will certainly work and it will make patrolling the border easier and more efficient too. You do not have to be a combat engineer to understand that any obstacle will always present more of a challenge than no obstacle.

However, the analogy with the former Inter-German Border/Berlin Wall is a poor one. Those obstacles were built to keep people in. The US/Mexico wall would be to keep people out. A better analogy might well be the Israeli wall along the West Bank.

    1. I like the Great Wall of China analogy.
A modern archaeological survey found that the entire wall, with all of its branches, measured out to be 21,196 km (13,171 mi).
Genghis Khan and his Mongolian hordes were chagrinned. 8^d

    1. Yes, thank you Jamie. I mentioned that promise above at 3:39. You linked an interview dated Jan. 2017. The President made that promise back in 2016.
If Mexico is paying specifically for the wall, why is there a partial U.S. government shutdown going on currently?

  13. To all who cling to the idea that Trump said that Mexico will pay for the wall and now it appears that Americans will pay for it, lets look at the far reaching implications. The American taxpayer will pay the cost of the wall up front, of that there is no doubt, however in the long run Mexico will surely pay for it, and the American taxpayer will then reap the rewards. The wall will not stop all illegal border crossers, nor will it stop all illegal drugs but it will greatly reduce both. Less illegal aliens in America will benefit the American people by reducing health fees, reducing education costs, and in other areas too numerous to mention here. So stop with the insinuation that Mexico isn’t paying for the wall, Mexico will pay, it just won’t be paying up front.

    1. “To all who cling to the idea that Trump said that Mexico will pay for the wall and now it appears that Americans will pay for it”

      a) FACT: Trump DID say that Mexico would pay for the wall. It is not an idea, it IS A FACT
      b) FACT: IF the wall gets built, Americans WILL PAY for it. If Americans do not, the wall will NOT GET BUILT.

“however in the long run Mexico will surely pay for it”
This is just Dream Casting of the exact same smoke/mirrors currency that Leftists trade in all day every day. Get a grip.

      1. If the wall is built, Mexico will pay for it. The U.S.A. may never get any money directly from Mexico, and Mexico may never send any money to anyone, anywhere, because of the wall. But the wall will benefit the U.S.A financially (it’s currently paying high costs for illegal immigration) and Mexico is saving a lot of money not dealing with the political problem of so many of its citizens living lives so deprived they risk sickness, injury, rape, and death to get to the U.S.A. illegally and many who make it send money to their families back home, boosting the Mexican economy.

        1. You do know that we Americans PAY for Mexico to control “THIER” Southern Border… That is a waste of Money and virtual signaling such that Mexico isn’t overrun from SA… Let them pay and play with themselves…..

        2. “The U.S.A. may never get any money directly from Mexico”

Yes, Mexico giving the United States money directly for the single purpose of paying for the wall would be the actual definition of Mexico paying for the wall. All of the rest is lies, soft soaping, and BULL SHIT only worthy of Socialists.
Don’t think for a minute that such deception is going to garner votes from the people who didn’t vote for a Republican House of Representatives. Separate yourselves from the swamp with a little bit of commitment to honesty and integrity.

      2. I have a new next door neighbor who wants to replace a short fence that my former neighbor and I built so we could chat over the fence. I am under NO obligation to pay for a new fence. If my new neighbor wants to build a 6ft fence (tallest allowed by ordinance), then he can PAY FOR IT HIMSELF.

I have NO PROBLEM paying for the WALL, because it will substantially FIX a much larger problem. Antenor has got it exactly correct. Trump speaks in shorthand semantics. Because of his CONSISTENCY, I don’t need any detail, interpretation, or nuance for what he says. I get the PRIMARY message, and that’s all that matters. Like how I have been enjoying my middle class tax cut. Now build the M’Fkcuing WALL!! How’s that for “shorthand” communication?

      3. Ooz, STFU, you do have penchant for stupid. Once the wall is built it is a lot easier to make mexico pay for, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

  14. The best answer to the illegal Mexico-USA Border crossing is for the U.S. to have Amtrak trains and Greyhound buses waiting near the Border,to intercept the illegals and freight them straight up North to the Canada/USA Border.
Then boot their asses straight into the welcoming arms of our RCMP in Quebec and Ontario where they will live happily ever after. On the bright side, five or six millions Mexicans might dilute the influence of the 1.6 million Muslims already here.

I’ll take the Mexicans over the jihadis any day.

Hm, I wonder if this bright idea might get me the Nobel Prize, which is even better than the Order of Canada I’ve been vying for all these years.

    1. Sounds like a good idea, but…
After the first winter most will cross back into the USA.

Still I am surprised that Trump hasn’t attempted your suggestion. It would teach Turdeau a lesson. Just make sure to tell them that BC and Quebec a warm.

  15. funny thing, walls and fences and moats and guard dogs.
I dont have a moat, but then again the guard dogs (plural) dont wander into the neighbor’s yard and their dogs and guests and brats dont wander into mine either.
funny thing, walls and fences and moats and guard dogs.
the hypocrisy is glaring. how about ONE democrap in 100,000,000 knock a hole in THEIR main floor wall and leave it unguarded . . . . .

  16. I still think Scott Baio said it best….

‘ If illegal aliens traditionally voted Republican, we would have built a 100 foot high wall decades ago.’

This is now all about the very bitter Dems denying Trump a victory.

  17. Fences work. Stronger fences work, you know, more strongly… Draw your own conclusions.

  18. “As many of you know, I am not a Trump fan at all. His lack of respect towards the constitution”
So please give me one example of this.

  19. The Chinese built a wall to keep the Mongols out. Within a thousand years, a Mongol was Chinese emperor.

The Romans built a wall in Britain to keep the barbarians out. Within five hundred years, Oadacer was emperor in the west.

Walls can work for a while, but in the end, they just become tourist attractions.

    1. Yeah? And if my Aunt had nuts she’d be my Uncle. What exactly are you getting at? Perhaps these nations lost the will to maintain their walls. Do you think that if Trump built the wall then suddenly all the border agents would be looking for work? A wall will still require manpower (read: men with swords/guns).

  20. Well, I listed to both speeches. I thought Trump was pretty convincing. For me, it was not clear why the Dems are opposing– apart from the need to oppose everything Trump does. The Dems used their time to do more dumping on Trump (fear mongering, blah, blah). They presented nebulous ideas on how to secure the border, but that struck me as just more ignoring of the problem rather than taking concrete action. This is not a good issue for Dems to dig in their heels on. Build the wall. It will probably be a boon to the economy. What is there to lose? Most Americans want a secure border.

    1. I watched both speeches and I took exception to Schumer’s last comment. The thing about the Democrats and their acknowledged hypocrisy is in the number of deaths in America. When 40,000 people are killed by guns in America every year the Democrats go on a scripted gun control program to ban guns if it saves only one child. But when 60,000+ Americans are killed every year with illegal drugs building a wall becomes a morality issue. So tell me who is really looking out for the American people?

    2. Well Linda, that’s certainly not the analysis you’d of heard if you were brave enough to go to CTV. They invited one opinion and it was a left wing opinion who was given lots of time to mock Trump. CBC had a Dem strategist and in typical CBC ‘fairness’ they also brought in a Rep strategist…. a formal speech writer for Mitt Romney!!

    3. Their stupid border security bafglegab is the same garbage Republicans and Democrats have been talking about for decades. People aren’t buying that bullcrap anymore. Everyone knows it’s a load of hooey. The only solution is a wall.
