The Calgary Herald’s Licia Corbella reports on how Alberta NDP Environment Minister Shannon Phillips is using alleged reports of “inflamed rhetoric and inaccurate statements made by some organizations and individuals on social media” as an excuse to cancel public meetings about the proposed Bighorn Wildland Provincial Park. Translation: “Some people were mean to me so now I’m going to have my party without them!”
When told that United Conservative MLA for the massive area, Jason Nixon, called the cancellation of the meetings “arbitrary,” Phillips said: “The safety of Albertans and conversations with the RCMP are never arbitrary.”
It’s odd though. Const. Mike Hibbs, the media relations officer for Alberta’s RCMP K Division’s southern district, said Monday that he hadn’t heard of any threats.
“I’m not aware of anything — of any threats at all,” said Hibbs.
Nixon, MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre, says he spoke with many RCMP contacts over the weekend and again on Monday and none of them were aware of any threats of any kind.
“The RCMP in my communities didn’t know what I was asking about; they never heard about any threats and they certainly didn’t ask for meetings to be shut down,” explained Nixon, who attended a rally in Drayton Valley Monday night that was hastily organized by community representatives to replace the cancelled information session scheduled for the conference centre there.
“I’m not going to call her a liar, but she needs to back up what she said because her actions insult all the citizens of these communities — good solid citizens who just want to ask some reasonable questions about provincial plans about our home,” said Nixon.

Translation:We don’t want any meetings that make us look bad before Provincial election.Kick em out.
If the RCMP have said there are no reports of threats, the media comments from civil service employee’s spouses seem to be fiction. as per the norm.

I received two robo-calls about the meetings and promptly deleted them. The subject didn’t interest me and anything from her isn’t worth heeding.
Maybe she cancelled the meetings because they wouldn’t have “built” feminism in Alberta, which was one of her objectives after taking office.
Has the Province of Alberta built a Provincial Park in 40 years? We don’t need any more areas of no development but we could use more campgrounds. One stupid thing the PCs did 30 years ago was rip out hundreds of highway campsites where motorists could stop for a snooze and a dump.
I noticed that 2 years ago when I drove up to my house in B. C.
Many old campsites and rest stops are now gone, a lot of them in nice locations, too. While I was growing up, my parents and I often stopped at the Smoky River campsite about half an hour’s drive from Grande Prairie. That one’s among the ones that were closed down.
There used to be like 250 highway campsites. As far as I know there are none left. There might still be some forestry campsites left. When the idiots farmed out the provincial parks to private operators, they shut down the free competition. While I always voted for the Conservatives, I had issues with some of their stupidity. I grew up under the Social Credit Party. Camping at provincial parks was free.
Were they really free? You did not pay for them directly, but our taxes paid for them.
Now that may be OK. I personally never had a problem with “no charge” campsites, but I’ve always known who was paying for them. 🙂
they did the same thing here in ontariowe around the same time.
I miss those secondary highway stops with the picnic tables under a grove of trees.
ms wynnedfarm with her 100s of BILLIONS ‘with a B’ in NEW debt made sure we arent going to see them ever again.
Lefties lie, and they’re not even good at that.
“Lefties lie, and they’re not even good at that.”
It’s not about being good or not good at lying, it’s that they’ve gone unchallenged for so long that the lies simply flow without thought of consequences of any kind.
Philips wrote the Alberta Federation of Labours energy policy. She was opposed to the O&G industry long before she became an MLA or cab minister. She is an inflexible ideologue who wont be listening to ‘the people’ on any issue.
I think Philips isn’t telling the truth here. She has nothing to support her allegations other than saying threats were made. Perhaps the bureaucrats who run the meetings were scared by some perceived menacing look or maybe a certain phrase that made their shit all loose and runny (as an old rancher buddy of mine would say).
I’ve had the good fortune to attend public meetings where bare knuckle politics were on display. Nothing wrong with that but for Philips to cancel public consultation because allegedly someone is afraid and then provide no evidence what so ever of any threat is cowardice. Since when do politicians not have to face the people and consult on changes that affect their lives?
its part of the election playbook. paint themselves as victims of intolerance in any fashion for a few months, just like Nenshi. Alberta will be painted as a racist sexist bigoted anti-gsa backwater and everyone will forget about pipelines briefly while chanting how progressive we really are. this is their only play.
Make
Alberta
Great
Again
Enjoy the last 4 months of your “political” career…………………………………..
Be careful about that last comment, they will enjoy the next four months and Alberta tax payers will be paying for it for generations to come.
This type of deception should result in her being fired. Getting caught in a lie of this magnitude…..if she had a flicker of character she would stand down.
if she had a flicker of character she would stand down
Character? Stand down? Hahahahahahahahahahaha!
Imagine if we had a press, with real reporters..
Ask the “dear lady leader” where did you hear said threats?
“Which of the voices in your head was speaking?”
But hey,the unheard, unspoken threats of violence sell well inside Alberta’s media.
Worked at High River, nobody ever had to explain there either.
Contrary viewpoints and tough questions are a threat to her, so she is fearful, or is that the middle class in crisis.
Once her fear and hatred is projected unto the offending party, truth and logic are inconvenient and unnecessary.
It’s not easy keeping with all the progressive socio-fascists talking points.
Anyway facts don’t matter, their superior morality does; just ask AOC, aka ignorance even Whoopi disdains.
If you can’t intimidate your opponents, accuse them of intimidating you. That’s a tactic right out of Mein Kamph.
Heh, and here’s another champagne socialist tactic.
When you are attacked ( https://youtu.be/hi2eULJ_Q2c ) just scream racism.
https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2019/01/03/radio-canada-accused-of-racism-for-parody-mocking-pms-india-trip.html
BTW, when I used the word “you”, I meant no distinction between the Torstar or turdo la doo….after all, they’re joined somewhere around his hips.
The left’s furor over hate speech and inflammatory language is simply an admission of how stupid and weak minded they are.
Can’t they think for themselves?
If I give a public speech and tell them that everyone wearing a striped shirt must die, will they automatically go into a hysterical killing spree, hacking and chopping at every striped shirt they see?
Are they truly that easily led?
Maybe they know something we don’t.
“If I give a public speech and tell them that everyone wearing a striped shirt must die, will they automatically go into a hysterical killing spree, hacking and chopping at every striped shirt they see?”
If you are one of their chosen messiahs.. YES.
They are weak minded and want to be lead.
Remember the Koran Rumour of Kandahar?
On the rumour that the US troops might be burning a copy of the Desert Pedophiles Book, the followers swarmed the area in full riot,I forget how many were killed.
This is how Our Progressive Comrades want their useful idiots to behave, emotional basket cases incapable of rational thought.
Same in their “antigun logic” because if a progressive had a gun, well it would shoot people.
Funny how when a normal has a gun,it only operates with human input.
Yellow snowflakes.
Is that what makes Yellow Snow?
It was interesting to hear a fellow from Lethbridge chat on CBC’s radio talk show about their experience with the Castle region, all the promises that were broken regard ATV use and how Minister never attended one public meeting. Not what CBC was prepared to listen to.
It’s quite possible Shannon is telling the truth, that threats were made. But, the “threats” might have been from an antifa goon squad that got lost trying to find their way to a rural location so they could try and intimidate honest citizens who try to make a living in the area of the proposed parks. Driving around rural Alberta without a latte could be quite upsetting.
Time to get rid of the NDP and ALL the legislation they brought in.
In the upcoming months the NDP will:
1. Play the racism card.
2. Say the UCP will end abortion
3. Say the UCP will fire nurses
4. Say the UCP will fire teachers
5. Say the UCP will destroy Canada
6. Accuse the UCP of running a divisive campaign full of name calling and smear tactics. Meanwhile the NDP troll army will release lots of negative comments gleaned from reviewing 20+ years of comments by conservatives. Unifor reporters will disseminate this info so it looks like the press has discovered this on their own.
7. Not sure of this one, but Nutley will announce $200 million in grants for responsible journalism.
8. Look to Nutley to announce major raises for teachers, nurses, and all government employees either before the election starts, or a promise to do so if re-elected.
9. The NDP will announce lower tuition fees for Universities
9. The NDP will announce lower tuition fees for Universities
No, they’ll do something worse: they’ll announce an open admission policy for post-secondary institutions. In other words, anyone who wants a degree in whatever not only deserves that degree but will get it as well.
However, that might not be such a bad thing, considering how many faculty members are lefties. They’ll be the ones who’ll have the headache of dealing with whoever shows up in their lectures; like I was told while I was teaching, they’ll have to work with whatever they get. It’ll be fun to see how many of those profs slowly go nuts as they deal with their students, some of whom will, no doubt, be certifiable.
They wanted tenure, so let them enjoy it….
I’m not an Albertan but I would love to see the NDP end up with the same number of seats that they held after the 1993 election and be relegated to the political wilderness forever. Unfortunately Nutley and her clown show can inflict a lot of damage in the next few months and make it very difficult for the UCP to clean up the mess in a timely manner.
The socialist extremists can`t handle the truth.
As is common with all socialist, who, by definition are extremists, they can`t argue about reality, they live in another world a world without opposition, without people that think of their own free will.
They live in the world of:
green alligators and long necked geese, some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees, some cats and rats and elephants ……. the loveliest of all was the Unicorn.
And the waters came down and floated them away
And that’s why you’ve never seen a unicorn until the SJWs and leftists came along.
