Visit The Washington Monument While You Still Can

Messin’ with Texas…

Known as both the “father of Texas” and the namesake of the state’s capital, Stephen F. Austin carved out the early outlines of Texas among his many accomplishments.

He also opposed an attempt by Mexico to ban slavery in the province of Tejas and said if slaves were freed, they would turn into “vagabonds, a nuisance and a menace.”

For that reason, the city of Austin’s Equity Office suggested renaming the city in a report about existing Confederate monuments that was published this week.

  1. And Washington owned slaves – look out. My ancestors were slaves too – in feudal Europe. Let’s all have a big blubber fest of self pity.

    1. Some native bands, in the past, took slaves, too. Does this put at risk totem poles?
      “Donald argues that the
      possession of slaves relieved chiefs
from the drudgery of common labour
and contributed to their wealth and
prestige. Slaves could be killed by their
owners for any reason, including ritual
      celebrations connected with funerals,
whale hunts, new houses, and other
      sacrifices. In addition, Donald states
that slaves were probably the source
of human flesh consumed in cannibal
      performances. He establishes the existence
      of a well developed ‘aboriginal
slave trade network” (139) and provides
readers with tables and arrows to point
out the directions of the trade. These
      tables are somewhat reminiscent of
      similar charts that describe African
      slave-trading patterns.’

      1. – Yes, but – ONLY – EVER – by cispatriarchal older white men. And just to be sure, the slaves were NEVER white.

    2. The last my family owned slaves, they had brown hair and spoke French. And we spoke Norse

  2. Did you notice that one of the streets up for consideration of renaming is “Reagan Hill Drive”?

That speaks volumes about the political motivations of those behind this nonsense.

  3. By the way, this is what socialists do. They rename things to erase the history of the ones they conquer.

The Soviets renamed city after city in Russia, e.g., St. Petersburg to Leningrad.

Russia, by the way, has changed the name of the city back to St. Petersburg.

    1. Yes Austin should be renamed Clinton in honour of the rightful 45 President 🙂

      1. Are you out of your EFFIN mind, a city in Texas named after the Hildabeast or a serial rapist?

    2. “He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.” George Orwell, 1984

It’s hilarious watching the Dems project their totalitarianism on the GOP.

  4. I’m a firm believer in the past…..if only one little tiny thing was changed….we wouldn’t be where we are right now

  5. But what are they going to re-name it as? It couldn’t be after a Mexican because many Mexicans have Spanish ancestors. Spain, of course, came to conquer Mexico, so that’s out of the question.

    Montezuma, maybe?

  6. This nonsense about re-naming places and returning territories to their “rightful” owners is nothing new.

During the 1990s, some Australian rock band (Midnight Oil, I think) had a song on the charts (Beds Are Burning?) that had a line in it that went something like “it’s their land, let’s give it back”. That was hardly surprising, as the Oils were well-known for supporting leftist causes. The lead singer, Pete Garrett, later ran for political office and became a Labour Party MP.

Personally, I think they were as crazy as a galah.

    1. I loved that tune … and yes … I knew it was about giving the Abbo’s “their land” back. Meh. If that’s what it takes to write an enjoyable rock tune? … whatever … it didn’t convince ME to give anything back … meh.

I also liked … “I come from the land down under” … where women glow and men plunder … vegemite sandwiches and whatnot

      1. I’ve got pleasant memories of Down Under.

In the early 1980s, I returned to shortwave listening after an absence of a few years. Men At Work was a popular band on a number of stations, including KYOI, which was a privately-funded outfit that broadcast top-40 music to Japan from its base on Saipan. I enjoyed listening to it, and that song, in Saskatchewan, where I was living at the time.

A few years later, the station ran out of money and went off the air. Darn!

  7. How about “Stalin”, then they only have to change four, well, rearranging three and changing one letter.

  8. No wonder they’re trying to re-write history, because you know what? “A nuisance and a menace” is exactly what the blacks became when the people who now curse the memory of Stephen Austin turned them loose, and that’s what their descendants still are.

They want Stephen Austin’s name blotted out because they won’t want to admit they were warned what would happen and that good, decent men tried to stop them.

On top of Third, of course, are allowing more savages with IQ’s too low to make them anything other than a nuisance or a menace to a civilized society to enter the US and Canada daily. They refuse to learn from history, and we will all be condemned to repeat it.

  9. I heard a rumour (out of Houston) that Austin was filling up with commies fleeing the high cost of living in California. The Houston crowd was worried that the commies from Austin would vote for higher taxes and more government oversight and it would spread like a fungus across the state. Not the Texas way…

  10. Oh well, when the Cowboys were kneeling for the anthem, there was only one conclusion: Texas just ain’t Texas anymore..

  11. It’s a good idea and so should be applied to everything. No more naming public ie government anythings after people. This will make for a truly neutral government. No more ‘public monuments’ either.

    1. I agree. So much simpler.

Public School #1, #2 and so forth. High School #1, etc. First Reformed Hospital, Second Reformed Hospital. These names have such a nice ring to them. I wonder who and where this has been done before. I’m sure you know, maybe helped even.

      1. Yup. First thing renamed: Trudeau International.

        Second: “reconciliation bridge” in Calgary.

        1. Yes changes to be: back to “Dorval Airport” for the first name.

The second one changed to “Libation Bridge”, remove the first 7 letters add a capital letter ” L ” and add a letter “b” or just erase first word and just call it “The”. Like It? ” The Bridge “. Yeh, sounds gr8 ✔ that’s better.

      2. Just so you know, anyone who responds to unme/rizwan/random sock puppets of Warren Kinsella… gets the stupid on them. It does not wash out.

        Just so you know.

        1. Actually it’s fun to get dirty once in a while. I disagree, a shower of reality and common sense does the trick.

    2. Russia is named after the Rus, the original Russians.

Petition Putin to have this changed. He might agree to the Soviet Union.

Should we remove statues of William Wilburforce as well? You know – to be neutral?

      1. Well, of course, “Rus” just won’t do; it’s the name of the Scandinavian oppressors who occupied Russian lands and dispossessed the Slavs!

        Oh, the humanity!

    3. Yep…UnThing, lets extend that to personal names…give everyone a number.
      Yours would be easy.

      ZERO

      1. – For that matter, isn’t there a statue out on Dundas Street West? Honouring Jack Layton?

  12. “Austin’s Equity Office suggested renaming the city…”

I believe the mayor should have responded to that office by taking his cue from The Donald:

    “You’re fired!”

The closing of the “Equity Office” would likely free up a million or so for boring things like road repairs, animal control, improvements to public recreation facilities, etc., etc.

    1. Really! Someone should do a “study” … to show just how many potholes could be filled annually … for the amount of taxpayer $$$ wasted … WASTED !! on … the “office of Equity”.

Note to Austin’s “Equity Office”. Nothing is “equal” … at least as you intend it … as equal outcomes. There is only … equal opportunity … which ended my basketball career when I failed to grow taller than 5’-10” … so who do I sue? My short ancestors?

      1. Like when I try to dance….. Can you say “two left feet”!!! Whom do I sue?

      2. South Park; they did an episode where Kyle got negroplasty so he could make the state basketball team…

His dad got dolphinoplasty, then went around making everyone build dolphin friendly bathrooms…

  13. Will they rename it TRAYVON Texas after the infamous Trayvon Martin or Malcom after Malcom X or perhaps Che the name of the Commie Terrorists whom they show off in their putrid T-Shirts

  14. Rename Austin,” T- Bone” has a delicious sound, T- Bone, Texas.

The seven streets as follows Littlefield Street to Littlefief, Tom Green Street to Commie Green Street, Sneed Cove to Steed, Reagan Hill to Megan’s Hills, Dixie to Fixie, Confederate to Con Avenue, and Plantation Road after the greatest Commie Lispy Lips Trudeau, calling it Potato Road.

    1. I LIKE it!! T-bone sounds GREAT!

And I can’t help but think of T-bone Wolk (RIP) whenever I hear T-bone. As a FAN of Darryl’s House … I really MISS T-bone. A masterful player and apparently a GREAT mate for the band. Just seeing him play again, makes me smile. Gone far too young at 58.

      Enjoy … https://youtu.be/N3cOvO0fzFE

      1. Kenji @ 11:44 pm Re: T- Bone Wolk R.I.P

Re: The renaming of Austin Texas to T- Bone Texas…
…of course that ‘s who I was thinking about…I listen to Daryl ‘s House everyday. It is the some of the BEST music EVER!

Love it all! Kenji…you, my friend had me at ” hello!”

        Smiles and Tears,
        Nancy

  15. Sounds good to me,in the name of “fairness” we shall erase the names of this committee from history.
All these good citizens need their names changed, to say… Moron 001 and on up.
Course they can all share the same name , F Wit, sounds about right.
The kind of people who obsess about correcting history need to be removed from the present.

  16. This sounds like an opportunity to finally and appropriately honour Kinky Friedman, one of Texas’ greatest sons, and to my knowledge never a slave owner.

  17. I say cities could be renamed for the parts of the body. Austin becomes “that big Asshole.”
And yes, I used to live there. Too many trotskyites and leninfluffers.

    1. Great, now my former hometown has to have it name changed to “Asshole of a Moose?”

    1. Umm, Apache isn’t avalible at this time would Chichewa work?

      malo a anthu oyera

  18. It is easy to attack all those 19th century micro aggression since pretty much everyone from that century has moved on.
