The California Air Resources Board (CARB) recently published its 2018 inventory of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, according to which the state achieved its goal of cutting GHG emissions below 1990 levels in 2016, four years in advance of the 2020 target date*. Gov. Jerry Brown claims that this proves that the state’s anti-carbon laws and regulations are “succeeding”, but are they really? Here we take a brief look at CARB’s data, concluding a) that success has not yet been achieved and b) that California’s long-term emissions targets remain as elusive as ever.

memo to all the climate wingnuts out there. cutting CO2 will change nothing as it is not a greenhouse gas. saying you are cutting CO2 and then importing hundreds of thousands of third world welfare cases to add to the CO2 shows me just how stupid they all are.
The People’s Social Justice Republic has done wonders since 1990. Auto, truck, aircraft and parts manufacturing gone. Furniture and other manufacturing, gone. Houses, apartments stopped and gentrified. Continued social education to benifits of living in cars, magnificent bridges and city streets. Millions of unskilled, semi to illiterate people and exodus of millions of working class with unreformable social values.
Dingbat Alert – “Who’s Going to PAY for Socialism??” Ocasio-Cortez Supporters Don’t Have an Answer
http://commoncts.blogspot.com/2018/07/dingbat-alert-whos-going-to-pay-for.html
California exports CO2 production to the other states and the United States exports CO2 production to China. Seriously – how stupid are people? CO2 doesn’t go down and by exporting CO2 production we are exporting premium jobs in heavy industry. Fools!
-high electricity prices drove out manufacturing jobs in California. The emissions from those industries moved, they didn’t disappear.
-imported electricity is counted as RE regardless of its actual composition. In reality, if your neighbouring state has a mix of fossil fuel and RE energy, then so does your imports.
-California has fewer heating and cooling days than most of the rest of north america. A mild climate makes it easier to curb energy consumption. California has “climate privledge”, you could argue.
-California has a very large proportion of it’s population below the poverty line. Poor people consume less energy than the middle class and the rich.
Considering the above, I’m not sure any one should want to reproduce California’s RE policies. High energy prices, fleeing industry, poverty, fraudulent/creative energy accounting…and without the benefit of a mild climate. Life without affordable, reliable energy would be extremely harsh (even deadly, at times) in places with climates like AB/SK. People don’t fare well at -30C temps without being able to afford adequate heating and transportation. Our vulnerable population including the elderly and natives would be put at substantial risk.
My rule of thumb?
Only believe something when the globalists start denying it. The globalists will deny the existence of Islamic terror and Chinese and Islamic plots to take over the world (with which the globalists privately sympathize) till they’re blue in the face.
Meanwhile, anything they claim to be a threat is invariably a fiction invented to justify their latest scam or a slander against proud civilized nations who offend the globalists by insisting on their right to exist.

Carbon! Carbon! Carbon!
They are trying to recreate another Soviet Union by another name.
“The largest reductions came from the electricity sector which continues to see decreases as a result of the state’s climate policies, which led to growth in wind generation and solar power, including growth in both rooftop and large solar array generation.”
..this is total BS….they are only counting wind and solar after it’s installed and working
They are not counting the impacts of manufacturing, transporting, and installation
Exactly! Just one of many examples of where the data is inaccurately presented.
don’t they buy 1/3 of their elec from other states?…..do they even count that?
My solution for Kalifornia…? (And most of the Left coast incl. BC)
The really REALLY Big one…. (a 9.5 on the Scale), and once it disappears beneath the Waves..?? only then, can Jerry Brown, Gregor Robertson & associated cabal drowning in the mud/broken wind turbines/EV’s and sinking solar panels assert that, yes, they have met their targets.
Better move now Kenji…we both know that day is overdue…
Gawd don’t I know … it’s gonna be a photofinish for me getting the HELL OUT … before the seismology, Sanctuary, or leftist economic implosion takes me down first.
Although my own personal home is rather robustly anchored to its foundation …
California’s total annual electricity consumption is something on the order of 250 TWh. Table 2 in the referenced article shows rooftop solar to be about 9 TWh in 2016, which is about 3.6% of that total. After all these years of “solar is the definite future” and “prices are dropping dramatically”, 3.6% is an awfully small number. Even more importantly, almost all of that is virtue signalling, and as the fine readers of this blog know well, virtue signalling consumers are prepared to make very poor financial decisions to “signal” (witness Tesla vehicles as an excellent example).
Rooftop solar is a false trend, artificially bolstered by subsidies and driven by rich hypocrites who want to be seen as “saving the planet”. In fact I wouldn’t even trust the published numbers as they are probably juiced. Well-heeled leftists all go for group think, and solar is a good example of that.
There is so much more I could say about this – electrical engineer with Ph.D. and > 20 years experience – but I am way behind on garden work, including mowing the lawn…..with my gas tractor!
Well … that’s why Jerome Brown has MANDATED rooftop solar starting in 2020 … to move that number to 5.7% … and then claim some sort of “green victory”. I’d say the ONLY “green victory” taking place is YOUR gas-mowers conquest of some long green grass.
Note to the CA Legislature and CARB: the HIGHER you keep jacking up my PG&E rates via expensive “renewables” and multi-tier PUNISHMENT for consuming energy … the more I will turn to WOOD BURNING to defray these regressive taxes on my household. And I will burn at night … when all the CARB spotters and sniffers are fast asleep, with pictures of public UNION pensions dancing in their heads. And watch your charts and graphs crumble.
Watched a program last night that argued the last ice age was “delayed” by human agricultural activity, starting 7000 years ago.
Apparently by 100,000 years according to CNN. I turned it off right quick; really tired of this nonsense.
No wait, it’s happening because of fossil fuels, the ones that came to the fore after the (latest) ice age ended.
Laughable.

Now you know where the old fairy tale, “Chicken Little and the sky is falling” came from.
Those who demand we all live a back to nature lifestyle those who tell us to go Vegan should all go and live on some island with poisonus plant life and venemous snakes let them live the life they would force on us all
The current forest fire kind of pushes the California carbon dioxide emissions up, not to mention all the particulate matter too.
Frankly all the tree hugger tree sitters need to be put on these fires starting with that Julia(Butterfly)Hill and her followers as well as all those liberal Eco-Wacko celeberties lets let them learn some responibility for their wreckless actions
Considering that everything California is doing regarding CO2 is based entirely on junk science to solve non existing problems, it would seem that the money wasted on junk electricity and over the top regulations could have been put to better use in their headlong rush towards 3rd world status. If you pay attention, you can see that circling the drain in Detroit fashion is quickly becoming a reality for the non elite that don’t move in the Silicon Valley/Hollywood circles. Venezuela comes to mind. From economic powerhouse to basket case in one generation. It’s a Democrat thing.
Solar isn’t even viable in the American south with blistering solar radiation. Then the idiots try to sell it in Alberta with winter days of only 8 hours of overcast sky with 2 or 3 feet of snow on the panels. Effing retards. I knew one person with a economic solar installation. Thirty years ago he was quoted $38,000 for 2 1/2 miles of power line and spent $10,000 on solar panels and battery storage. He still had to fire up the generator periodically to charge up his system during dismal winter stretches. He also had a propane fridge, dryer, stove, and water heater. He also had a lot of low wattage bulbs and only used high wattage when someone wanted to read or otherwise needed to see.
