    1. Exactly. Never have and never will watch this. I have important things to do.

    2. I was watching another Tony that night. I’m going through my boxed set of The Sopranos and saw a few episodes. I’ve forgotten just how good that show was.

  1. Hollywood can marinate in its rancid cesspool. De Niro’s struggling for relevance.

  2. Saleno Zito pointed out that a significant portion of Broadway shows derive their income from Trump voters, both when visiting NYC/Broadway and when the plays hit the road. To see the whole audience all stand up and give DeNiro an enthusiastic standing O was so telling, and a big FU to Trump voters. Also incredibly stupid.

  3. The self-indulgent virtue signaling to the self-important.

I went to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Stratford two years ago and the director–thinking he was smarter than Shakespeare–turned the human wedding plot in the story into a gay marriage.

Shakespeare was rolling in his grave.

    1. That’s happening a lot in opera as well. Several years ago, the Metropolitan Opera set Beethoven’s Fidelio in the prison of some banana republic. Something tells me that Ludwig didn’t have that in mind when he wrote it.

  4. The constant phony-baloney virtue-signalling is one reason I let my PBS membership lapse after contributing for more than 30 years.

Two or three weeks ago, the program The American Experience showed a documentary about the Chinese exclusion act, which was directed by Ric Burns, Ken’s brother. I switched it off after a few minutes when it became clear which direction it was going to take.

I’m sure that the timing of the broadcast, as well as who was responsible for the program, was no accident. PBS clearly doesn’t like Trump.

  5. I’m surprised the Tonys show got as many viewers as it did. Didn’t think anyone outside Hollywood and the NY theatre district would watch that crap.
