Most of us are not quarreling with immigration which is carefully managed. The issue is with a porous border that has increasing numbers of illegal border-crossers coming in and they do put significant pressure on social services, health care, etc. The system is not set up to accept indefinite numbers of illegal immigrants nor excessive numbers of refugees who frequently are not easy to integrate into Canadian society. Problems among refugees sometimes emerge among young people if they lack job skills. They become easy prey for gangs or ISIS recruitment. For example, Somalis as a rule have not done well in Canada — except of course for that one who seems to be managing our immigration system.

Immigrants are not refugees. Immigrants gain entry by acquiring points based on skills and other qualities (such as youth) that are valuable to Canadian society. Once sufficient points are acquired, immigration is permitted. It is these individuals that, generally, do not put a drain on our services. Refugees on the other hand, jump the line because they do not have sufficient skills and characteristics that our society requires. You are conflating two different groups of people entering our country. Not the same at all.
Also, when you sponsor someone to immigrate to Canada, you sign a legal undertaking to provide all support for them during a specified period. Sponsorship immigration specifically forbids such immigrants from accessing government handouts. They can still make use of immigration programs, but things like welfare, EI, and the like are not on. There is an onus on such immigrants to contribute/support themselves, or be a drain on their own families. And people who choose to immigrate properly and legally are motivated to become functioning members of society. “Refugees” and “asylum seekers”, not so much.

Someone should mention to you-know-who that studies in various EU Countries have shown that as many as fifty percent of refugees who flooded into Europe are still unemployed five years later.
