  1. Huh!? I would have thought THAT money could be better spent here in the SF Bay Area … convincing all the local cities, bordering the Bay, that they need to shut down all development due to the projected level of “horrific” sea level rise … caused by the sinful lifestyles of Silicon Valley hipsters. Huh?! Money needed to build giant sea walls in the Bay mud to prevent TIDAL inundation. Instead, their tithes of guilt go to the noble native peoples who still live … ‘gently on the land’. The Chief has promised his Shaman will wave his rattle at the earth gods … to prevent the Black Death from crossing his lands. Sorry to say that these men of enormous, obscene, wealth are buying indulgences from the ‘First Peoples’ of North America. White guilt is ugly business.

  2. Some FNs, in fact the ones mostly “interviewed” by the media are still into “beads and blankets” and don’t care who or where they come from. The tactic works well for the urban mushy middle conquered by guilt politics.

  3. The enviros have aligned themselves with the nats (natives) in the green war. What kind of support do you get for $55k? The price of a cheap F150.
The nats are looking at the situation and have realized that they might be leaving some money on the table. Some are switching allegiances….. going over to the dark side. Selling mother earth comes with a price afterall.

The James Bay Cree did just that when quebek proposed the building of a dam on Cree traditional land. The Cree were opposed and enlisted gawd hizself Davey Boy Suzuki. It all came to naught when the fwenchman greased up the Cree to the tune of 3 billion over 50 years. “We want the dam” became the cry of the Cree and they got exactly what they wanted. The land is flooded.

Once the nats cross over the enviros are defeated.

  4. Chicken feed, compared to what this Chief probably gets annually from Ottawa. I say probably because Ottawa is not enforcing the law that requires Chiefs to report their Bands Funding.

    1. This:

“While most First Nations continue to comply with Stephen Harper’s controversial financial transparency law, a National Post analysis has found the compliance rate sharply dropped after Justin Trudeau’s government dropped a key enforcement mechanism.

As a result of the Trudeau government’s rule change, some bureaucrats are worried they won’t be able to properly account for and administer the billions of dollars transferred each year to the country’s First Nations.”

(National Post – “Fewer First Nations disclosed financial data after PM suspended key accountability measure” – David Akin – January 4, 2017)

  5. We have to look past these lobby groups to who might be behind them. Saudi Arabia and Russia have been fighting tooth and nail to keep the price of oil up, and would like nothing better than to keep Canadian oil in North America. The same goes for the U.S.: they want a strategic crude reserve if war breaks out, and don’t want to see Canadian oil overseas.

There are big geopolitical reasons that our oil is landlocked; a few tens of $millions spent on eco-lobby groups is peanuts compared to the $billions rolling in for every dollar the price of oil rises. (For that reason, we shouldn’t be surprised to see weaker oil-producing nations like Venezuela on the ropes either.) It’s not unlike the “peace” groups back in Soviet times; they mysteriously dropped off the radar once the U.S.S.R. bit the dust.

  6. The irony is that virtually all First Nations settlements (reserves) are 100% dependent on fossil fuels and if you ever showed up to protest that fact…you would be driven away and likely beaten severely in the process. But for a First Nations chief to take $55k to protest the oil and gas industry is perfectly acceptable.

  7. antelope you make a good point. The crude market is being manipulated. The ‘glut’ didn’t disappear only the lower price for crude did.
The Saudis have a big IPO coming on the market. It’s in their interest to have the price as high as possible.

The price at the pump is affecting everyone. Anymore hikes and the ‘invisible hand’ will rise. Who knows what the consequences might be? My bet is that if the voters have had enough of this crap every elected politician in the country will be vulnerable.

It’s lining up nicely for bongo.

  8. This buying off of the Indians is stated explicitly in the Rockerfella doctrine… Indians aren’t the only special people that are easily bought off by foreign billionaires, just another reason to get rid of the Aparthied Indian industry… Heinrich Himmler Butts liked to take money from foreign billionaires too and now he’s the PM, Gregor the sociopath Robertson… the list is endless. This country is hooped, it is crawling with traitors, it has institutionalized bigotry and constitutionalized tribalism.
