    That link is four years old, references routers you can’t buy any more, and most of the attacks have to originate inside the network to be successful – in other words, the attacker has to be connected to your router from inside your home, or connected to your wifi already (yes, there’s some browser based hijacks that can leverage that, but they only work if you’re not using antivirus software).
    I disagree that it’s unreasonable to expect the average person to secure their computer and their router. It isn’t hard, there are guides all over the place, and even if you don’t want to do it yourself, you can’t throw a rock without hitting some OEM whitebox PC shop that will do it for you for $50.
    The real issue is that people who are more than capable of handling complex mechanical devices every day, or memorizing decades worth of sports stats, suddenly throw their hands in the air and make spurbly-burbly noises with their lips as soon as “computors” are mentioned. It’s purely psychological.

  8. Daniel, you make some good points about an older article and the hack potential of those particular bugs. But I’m far from convinced that the current crop of routers is very secure.
    Consultants and experts who study consumer routers don’t have a very positive view of them. Here’s a very well-documented page (despite its less-than-desirable formatting), with links to a lot of other interesting sites.

  15. Much of the time a deleted comment is the result of a technical glitch or some small filter issue. I have posted very innocuous comments that have gotten filtered. Just wait, it may show up. In other cases, a moderator must be careful about posting something for which they could get sued. I doubt your comment was deleted just because lance did not agree — There is a wide range of comments here and I am sure he/kate do not agree with all of them.

  40. Nice, glad to see the Spud get roasted by our home and native natives.
    That said, NOTHING will satisfy the natives, nothing, except us all leaving this country for elsewhere, so they can resume their previous, perfect cultural lifestyle.
    Although they might be okay with us being they’re slaves too. In a way we already are, as they extort more money out of governments, as their societal dysfunction continues. And TruDOPE thinks that showering the natives with Billions, will make them LUV him. Schaudenfraude!
    It’s never enough for the natives, even PM PomPom may eventually learn that.
