Seems like tariffs even that playing field much more effectively than income taxes on businesses here.
Slave labor etc. becomes less of an advantage for China when they have to deal with US tariffs vs income taxes.
If tariffs were directed at a few nations with dodgy trade practices, they might well be jusftifiable.
But earlier this month, Trump levied tariffs against over 80 countries, including every major developed country.

They don’t seem to realize that Ontario was a net IMPORTER of electricity in 2024….that Ontario gets its crude from a pipeline from the U.S. That B.C. imports more than 80% of its refined products from Washington State and also gets power from the same location.

What most Canadians don’t understand is Trump imposed the tariffs because for the last fifty to seventy-five years the Western nations had defaulted on their defence budgets. They all sheltered under the protection of America. They all boasted how much better they were with their social programs while at the same time criticizing America. They were protected by America acting as the international police force to keep their economies stable and a semblance of order across the globe. Trump as a businessman looked at the books and said “Wait a minute….these books don’t balance!” The tariffs forced the West to re-evaluate their position and they didn’t like what they were being forced to face, hence the reason they are now vilifying Trump and America. Losers will always find someone to blame for their own inadequacies, it’s what losers have done throughout history.
