North Korean government officials have been quietly trying to arrange talks with Republican-linked analysts in Washington, in an apparent attempt to make sense of President Donald Trump and his confusing messages to Kim Jong Un’s regime.
Yes, clearly everyone’s inability to understand WTF the president of the US is saying must be further evidence of his brilliance.

Trump’s message is really pretty straightforward, li’l kimmie – “Shoot a missile at us or our allies, and it’ll be the last mistake you – or anybody else in North Korea – ever makes”. There – hope this helped.

There is a consensus that has emerged in Washington, Seoul, Tokyo and slowly Beijing, that the previous policy failed. In has continued to breakout and will continue to breakout. Containment, a reasonable policy option back in the mid 90’s pre nuke has been shown to be a miscalculation
In has made the mistake of threatening US territory, overflying Japanese territory and showing up the Chinese, the SKO’s have seen him as problematic for some time but cant do anything without everyone else on board. This moment fits Trump well, it didn’t fit Obama at all, might have fit W.
The majority US for. policy and defence establishment is on board with at least the idea that the past has failed and wont defend continuation. All seem to agree that the denuclearized NoKo is the goal. How is up for debate, war being one option that is on the table.
The Chinese do not want a Western aligned united Korea on its border. The US and Japan just want it denuclearized. I suspect the South wants unification but isn’t sure it can pull it off. Most importantly, a chaotic collapse caused by war makes tracking and finding those nukes and nuclear knowhow very difficult. How you get UN to disarm in a rational way is the trick. The Chinese are key, we know this.
The signals are all there for the NoKo’s to read. I suspect they wont read them, per the story, since they cannot conceive that they would be left alone, they don’t trust the Chinese either. The likely will seek succor with the Russians, which the Chinese cant live with either.
I do believe the SoKo;s and US and Japanese will be able to minimize damage, the NoKo’s, while not Iraqi army easy, aren’t going to last long or be able to do the kind of damage people fear, but they will do damage and they will kill thousands. The bigger worry may not be nukes but gas and bio.
Chinese, again are key. Its their part of the world and a guerilla campaign supplied by China would be a bloodbath for everyone.
Bottom line. Time for a change of policy, Trump seems to be listening to the proper people this time. I am no fan of his in general nor his choices of language but for the moment no harm in this case. Old policy is gone, there is a surprising consensus on this matter in Washington and the allies and the Chinese finally seem ready to affect some change. US needs to be careful of overreach. I suspect plans, people and maybe a bomb are planned to make their way to Iran after this….No Ko is Irans breakout strategy.
Can the Chinese and the Americans deal to solve a problem they both have (to different degrees) Together they can remake the world.
You can bet your bippy that l’il Kim & Co. understand Trump’s messaging perfectly well. They’ve embarked on this route for two reasons: to buy time, and to pretend to the useful Western idiots that they are in the process of seeking meaningful negotiations.
