Heads up, agriculture – you're next: the @CanVetMedAssoc has been hijacked by animal rights activists. #MoreDeadCatshttps://t.co/Y7eEqCEdZP

I cannot stress this strongly enough — if you’re in agriculture, talk to your MLA. Today’s declawed cat is tomorrow’s docked lamb or dehorned calf. While the CVMA is only an advisory body, the real power is vested in the provincial boards.
Veterinary Associations in province after province are being hijacked by urban-centric social justice agenda vets. These Association boards bypass the legislative process and write de facto “law” by banning procedures, stripping the minority of practitioners of the right to provide these services under threat of fines and loss of license.
In provinces like BC and New Brunswick, these prohibitions have empowered the even more radical SPCA’s, granting them the authority to seize animals if breeders are suspected of performing traditional animal husbandry procedures themselves.
Our Agriculture Ministers need to roll back the power of these Associations now, and affirm the individual veterinarian’s right to practice according to law.

Veterinary practice is dominated by women. My large animal vet wouldn’t even consider looking at a cat or dog. Veterinary practice has been kidnapped by cat ladies.
Speaking of which it is estimated that cats kill 1.4 to 3.7 billion birds a year in the US. No cats leave the trappers yard under their own power.
Look at the photos with the article. Idiot CBC-ers seem to think that trimming nails is the same as declawing.
I know that personal anecdotes do not an industry make … but here goes my personal experience … (WARNING: do NOT read this after eating).
My very first home purchase was a 775sf, 2-bed/1-bath home in downtown Concord, CA that was owned by a (woman) Veterinarian who specialized in canine skin diseases. She was even a lecturer at UC Davis (a rather highly regarded Veterinary school – as you know) To say that it is “smart” to buy the cheapest dump on the street … makes me an absolute genius. This (woman) Vet.’s home was a DUMP. She lived (alone) as a P-I-G. One bedroom was the designated convalescence quarters of her two Irish Wolfhounds (yes, two massive dogs) who were paralyzed in the hindquarters (yes, with ALL that implies). They lay on two mattresses on the floor of a small bedroom. The stench was unbelievable. The home was literally coated in dog hair. Every horizontal surface was coated in a thick layer of fur; window sills, countertops, everything. The floor furnace sump was literally FILLED with dog hair. The old O’Keefe&Merritt range (a beautiful relic of the 1940’s) was so caked with dog hair, that I had to take it out into the driveway and literally disassemble it to clean it out (I had quite a bit of ambition and energy as a young 20yo) … disgusting. When I pulled-up the wall-to-wall carpets … they literally oozed. Much of the beautiful hardwood flooring needed re-sanding and refinishing.
This woman clearly “loved” animals. She “loved” her two paralyzed Irish Wolfhounds to the exclusion of her own humanity. She lived in inhuman conditions. Here, an evidently highly educated, intelligent, woman lived in the manner of the poorest low-IQ white trash loser you can imagine. It made me question what it takes to become a highly respected Veterinarian. It apparently takes a vow of “living like the animals”. Whenever I read one of these PETA “spokes-experts” … I think of my first home … and it’s inhabitants.
Actually the Legislator/Bureacrat MUST include Cats & Dogs as PROHIBITED animals in URBAN Settings.
Whatever the description of Urban is for the exclusion of other mammals in a residential setting.
I do wish there we could use a clearly defined Font for sarcasm. Y’all know the comment —-dripping with sarcasm—-kind of sarcasm; maybe a separate font or identifier to use middle-grade putdowns. Such as “d’ya think?”.
Declawing a cat is the the human equivalent to having ones finger tips amputated.
If a person is too lazy to trim their cat’s nails once in a while and would rather opt for this barbaric procedure instead, then don’t get a cat.
Felines are not suitable house pets UNLESS they are declawed. I suppose the only one who’ll win here is Ottawa’s Yang Sheng restaurant which as one liberal kiss-ass once reported…specializes in the BBQ variety.
No, it’s not.
Feline declawing is the feline equivalent of … feline declawing.
For the cat, it means surviving the destructive behaviors that once had you dropped at someone else’s curb or surrendered to humane societies for eventual euthanization.
Studies reveal that cats continue to kill songbirds even if they are declawed. It’s in their DNA.
If you have a cat keep it in the house.
Windmills have replaced cats as the prime murderer of birds …. they get the big birds too … Cat’s can’t compete.
Declawing cats is a huge NO NO in my world. If you want something docile, get a lab. or an aquarium.
Further to birds vanishing …. at some point, there are not enough birds to eat the insects and even rodents that eat our food.
What then?
Windmills kill more birds than cats? What study came to that conclusion? I’ve not heard that before. But lets say that windmills do kill more birds – that fact exonerates cats contribution?
We have many methods of controlling the insect population (DDT) and ag chemicals, if we want to – rodents as well. Using cats to do that….
I would never declaw a cat and neither would I own a cat that is left out to roam the neighbourhood to kill birds, use the neighbour’s gardens for litter boxes. They could also be in danger of cruelty by people who do not like cats. Not to forget nighttime wild life prowlers like fishers as well.
simple solution…..make it a religion….and give it a berka
I had a rescue kitten laser declawed at about 10 weeks. She was playing the next day with very little discomfort. She exhibited no obvious pain the next day, was eating and sleeping and playing, which she still is after 5 years. She plays daily with my Shi Tzu. Play fighting, running and jumping, and playing hide and seek. After having cats for 40 years, this one is as normal as the others I have had. As normal as cats get that is. She isn’t allowed outside and really doesn’t seem to want to go outside. Laser declawing is the way to go. no pain.
I would never declaw a cat. I like it that they have killed rats, pigeons, mice, squirrels, chipmunks, snakes and other pests around our place. Keep them a little hungry I say. Don’t spade them either. The mothers are the better hunters and between road kills and coyotes the population seems to stay in check.
They have a real racket going for rabies vacinations – used to be you could get it for your dog for about $15. Now – thet REQUIRE (KA-CHING!!)a physical exam for about $75 just to get in the door. Heck – I can get a flu shot for me at the local pharmacy here for free and no examimnation or doctor’s order required. Also – they now want to make rabies shots legally required (KA-CHING, KA-CHING) and are lobbying for that as well. Legally required donations to the local vet?? The one and only time I had this done the vet asked ME to lift the dog onto the exam tgable cause she had a sore back – well, so did I but I did as asked. The whole exam musta taken just short of 90 seconds. Nice work if you can get it – or have the government MAKE others give it to you!
When windmills kill birds, it’s US killing birds. The continual increase in windmills all over the world is bird tragedy coming down the pike.
When cat’s kill birds, it’s nature …. isn’t it?
Enjoy your rodent poison and your insecticides …
I agree with you re: windmills.
Your cat killing birds isn’t nature- it’s you. Cats don’t need to kill to eat, they are being fed better than they ever have been.
I don’t enjoy using chemicals anymore than you do but suggesting we need cats to control rodents and insects is specious.Killing rodents and insects is a job for the birds.
Meanwhile, in Ontario, the farm organizations sign on to whatever PETA influenced legislation that the Government tells them to and stay silent about the OSPCA persecutions of their members.
