We Can Dream

Kevin Libin;

… whether you’re pro-Trump or anti-Trump, it’s undeniable the current president is largely a response, a backlash even, to the excesses of Obama’s leadership, his determination to force through Democrat pet policies — Obamacare, climate regulations, the Iran deal — in spite of voter disapproval and, often, their hostility. When politicians are certain their cause is righteous, they can rationalize away accounting for the will of the people. But in democracies, the people eventually get their revenge. In the U.S. that vengeance looked like Donald Trump.
What it will look like in Canada we might soon find out, as tempers rise against unresponsive rulers in two powerful provinces, and possibly elsewhere. The picture in Alberta is particularly grim. As a new poll from Mainstreet Research for Postmedia confirms, the Alberta NDP is on an entirely different planet than the rest of the province on some of its biggest, most impactful policies.

  1. There are some good examples in this article about how the left are alienating the people.
I was especially reassured by this gem. Go millennials!
“As it is, the antipathy to the carbon tax cuts across all demographics: old, young, male, female. You thought millennials had all been indoctrinated in decarbonization? In Alberta, those aged 18-34 — many now likely getting some of those rebate cheques — are among the unhappiest, with 64 per cent against the carbon tax, compared to 35-to-49 year olds at 61 per cent and seniors at 62 per cent. Opposition to Notley’s hard cap on oilsands emissions, meant to limit future growth in the resource, is fierce, too: 54 per cent oppose it; just 31 per cent are in favour. ”

  2. I’ve seen a few of the “F… Notley” stickers on vehicles in these past few months.
I’m expecting more of that, and haven’t had any normal conversations with folks that are onside with Notley.
As I’m not a student union rep, I don’t know where to find those +30% that seem to support this measure.

  3. The question for Canada is how much does Quebec & Ontario add to their Canadian dream… If they went away what is the downside VS. the upside….Would the rest of Canada miss those users/abusers who “rule” the under class (deplorable’s in Western Canada).. The MSM are 100% behind those 2 provinces
They will not be able to compete with the USA because of the carbon TAX, but Western Canada has desirable commodities that will be raped for the benefit of Ontario & Quebec…How stupid are Canadians

  4. And in a twist of irony I wouldn’t be surprised if here in BC the province goes to the NDP in the upcoming election because voters are sick to death of the Liberals. Between their mismanagement, a carbon tax, and their pay-to-play $5,000 a plate fundraisers BC residents have had it. No Trump to vote for here, so the NDP may get the reigns.
The BC Liberals are no better than Wynn, they are just much smarter at hiding what they are really up to.
Luckily NDP governments generally don’t last long.

  5. I got my gas bill for Jan. Over $20 in carbon tax. My pickup has a 140 liter tank. Every time I fill up its $5+ in carbon tax.
This is nuts. If notley thinks there won’t be blow back she is delusional. There will be open revolt before long.

  6. Do you ever get tired being a moron? Using the word moron, I’m not tending to the meaning on the positive side.
Take whatever you want – who cares? You might want to slap your mamma for raising a moron like you.

  7. Re: $5.00 Carbon tax on a fill up.
That’s more than the dealer makes!!
    Good old socialism.
I filled up in Assiniboia, Sk. today @ 95.9 cents per litre. Moose Jaw was at 93.9.

The basis of the NDP support is the civil servants centred in Edmonton. Without the AUPE support they wouldn’t make 20% approval so we can expect to see sweetheart deals for the public sector and attacks on the private sector for the next three years. Ie. phasing out private charter schools in favour of teachers unions and long term contracts for alternate energy rentseekers.
where can I get one of those stickers?

  9. We can ONLY dream. In the States, there is a significant percentage of the population who are aware there is an internal cultural war going on, and who know who the enemies are (media, modern education, lefties, SJW’s, Hollywood, ivory tower progressives) and what those enemies stand for. They also know what ordinary, decent people stand for, and are willing to be called Deplorables for standing up for what they believe is right.
In Canada, there are so, so many who just go along with whatever they hear from the CBC, CTV, and the rest of the chattering class. “Oh, well, what can ya do..” seems to be the mantra, where in the States it was “CNN Sucks”.
I don’t know if it is because Canadians don’t have the foundations that so many Americans do, or because they just go along, or because they so desperately want to be part of what they are told is the “in” crowd.
If you don’t even know there’s a battle…. you will lose.

  10. The only difference between Alberta and BC is that the happy-faced (pro-business) socialists in BC are in one Party while in Alberta they are split between two. As bad as the BC Liberals are, one would hope that we won’t go back to the dour-faced (union-brand) and worse socialism of the NDP.

  11. I don’t know about that. Every time Horgan opens his mouth and promises free stuff and lots of nest gifts to his union cronies, a lot of BC residents are thinking to themselves, ” How ya gonna pay for that Comrade John?”
Sorry, it’s the same old, same old from the NDPee, lots of complaining, lots of pi$$ing and missing over ” the poor”, lots of promises of graft to his union cronies, but no clue how the economy works. A lot of immigrants over the last 4 years that prefer capitalism over socialism. Ex-pats from Chiner and Alberta that know better, vs the simple minded millennial who want free stuff anfvthink the world is warming uncontrollably, while it’s snowing on Feb 27th in LaLa land.
Funny how the NDPee wants to give $10/day daycare to millennials, who live in ritzy condos with granite countertops, two car loans, vacay bills, but can’t afford their kids………

  12. I’m trying to comment on the story below this one, where an Australian writer was detained by US Customs. The comments section is out of order, please fix it!!

  13. ….possibly elsewhere….?
Uh yea ..??like maybe this current Parliament…The complete loser in Charge who would see Carbon taxes on a National Level, he who admires Chinese style governing (isn’t that one obvious.?), and will mutter the shahadda..while calling himself a feminist..
this clown is dangerous, threatens our culture, and our sovereignty…Need sto be deposed…Sooner than later.

  14. ….because they just go along, or because they so desperately want to be part of what they are told is the “in” crowd.

  15. Have you ever seen the Esurance commercial in which an older woman is posting her vacation pictures on the wall? Another woman remarks” That’s not how this works; that is not how any of this works.”

My version is “This is not about Trump; this election was never about Trump”. Luckily, the media and our “so called betters” are too shallow, self serving, and myopic to counter the resistance to Progressive policies. The point is that this movement is not unique to US presidential elections but crosses local, state and international borders.

  16. Canadians will not rise up, they will continue to vote the socialist line and eat the crap sandwiches they are served, because Canadians live and breath socialism. today’s crop of citizens are more than prepared to become slaves to their inferiors in the bureaucracy. there will be no conservative rebellion or a Trump like leader and I will be proven correct as I have been for decades now.
