That they did it to themselves.
That’s what Not Waiting for the Asteroid means, as in not waiting for disaster but creating your own.
Ironic that the so-called “MotherCorp” offering content for free in every medium imaginable is doing this.
It’s as if Ghostbusters wasn’t fiction, “Choose the form of your destruction!”

OT but revolves around radio and TV: Jays broadcasters sign onto virtue signalling, fail. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-broadcaster-jerry-howarth-wont-say-indians-alcs/
I love Jerry Howarth. The classiest thing was the 92 world series. The final inning was his to call but he passed it over to Tom Cheek to call the world series winning inning. He is a gentleman without peer.
Having said that, he is somewhat misguided in his assessment.
I grew up in northern Saskatchewan. Our town was surrounded by reserves. Our school was filled with kids from reserves. We played sports against a dozen reserves. Each one of their teams were called names like the chiefs, indians, braves, warriors, or any other native American slang you could imagine. It wasn’t offensive to them to be called such names. They chose those names.
It is in a world of professional offense that groups are offended with the flavor of the day. Notre Dame Fighting Irish doesn’t invoke wide spread protest. Yet North Dakota Fighting Sioux is so distasteful that the school no longer has a name.
This is a mark of the last days. Matt 24:10 “And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.”
A little off-topic … but related to the topic-premise … by way of doing it to themselves. The NFL. The National Football League viewership is plummeting.
http://theundefeated.com/features/nfl-viewership-down-and-study-suggests-its-over-protests/
By enabling mental midget, multi-millionaires like Colin Kaepernick’s disrespect for our National anthem, faithful NFL viewers are finding something else to do with their time. Sound familiar ? eh, leftist news rags ? The VAST MAJORITY of US citizens don’t appreciate the “protest” whatsoever. The protest is falling on deaf ears and blind eyes. And soon, when your contract shrinks to rational, equitable, wages … you will understand. Or maybe not. Meh. who cares. Suck your own left nut, Colin.
“…because information is the lifeblood of our democracy…” states Mr Maher. The reason I stopped reading Maclean’s is because it spewed forth disinformation (samizdat) for the left in a steady stream. The sooner the Trudeau worshipping rag is gone, the better.
Stephan (massive robocalls electoral fraud) Maher makes a salient point in that the deplorable CBC is taking over the “news business”, they are. The CBC survives and flourishes not because people watch it but because they’re part of the Librano machine pushing the notion that Canada is a Trudopian paradise, thats their job and they are rewarded for their service by the Libranos. News outlets that are not left wing propaganda machines are literally not allowed to exist so that only leaves a market for leftists who cannot compete with the obscene amounts of taxpayer cash stolen from taxpayers and handed over to the CBC… catch 22… The internet allowed some freedom, freedom from the suffocating leftist dogma disguised as “news”, but not for long. Robocalls Maher shouldn’t worry though because leftists and “progressive” forces are in the beginning stages of destroying the internet and the limited freedoms it has allowed. Soon those limited internet freedoms that have been allowed up until now will be legislated into dust by “Progressives”… and its coming soon… Open markets and freedom within the so called news business are the enemy of “progressives” and are treated as such. Complaining is fine, but nothing is going to change until there’s a revolution against the progs and the globalist fascists… and in a world full of feminazis, pajama boys, metro sexual dipshits and professional victims I don’t hold out much hope for the future.
I really dislike the Nat Post printing columns from reporters for the NY Times or Was Post. Today there was a disgusting article on Trump and his lack of friends and how unhappy he must be.
If the entire Canadian news business suddenly folded tomorrow morning, the entire electorate would be much better informed. Because they wouldn’t be getting -lied- to 24/7.
Speed the day!
As if I needed another reason to hate the Toronto team that Sportsnet keeps shoving down our throats.
I second that motion.
55 cents a word and still nothing worth reading. I’m staying here.
Its important to remember that the major share holder of the New York Slimes is the Globalist shit stain named George Soros. That should explain why the Times has become such an anti American destructive force and a propaganda whore for globalists. As for the NP, I look forward to the day that that Trudope cheering rag goes out of business for good taking Ken doll eunuch’s like Ivison, Coyne, Den Taint and MacParland with it… all of them need a good old fashioned punch to where their vaginas used to be.
I’m a huge Jays fan but it’s hard to root for this team.
I was listening to the Tampa feed the last time they played. Freed and Wills were saying “their broadcasters are our favorite people, love Gibbons but watching and rooting for this team is tough. They never take an actual strike, they’re never really out, they just complain the entire time.”
Read the article and this was the unstated fact Maher ignores or is refusing to grasp.
That no matter how much money the government pumps into the CBC it will inevitably fail as a news organization as it never has and never will have to compete like a real news gathering organization.
The CBC is an anachronism. The very idea that we need a “state broadcaster” that depends on tax money for its survival in this day and age is abhorrent. Its not 1920 post-revolutionary Russia or 1943 Goebbels’s Germany. I mean what role does the tax funded CBC play in a multi media world of competition -A world of choice and selection? A tax funded mouth piece for the Liberal party? Producer of garbage TV? Sponsor of second rate comedy? Hardly worth the cost.
Maher has things exactly backwards. Because the CBC doesn’t need to compete, it’s the safe haven. All who work want to be secure in their jobs, it’s human nature. If covering stories one way could get you hired to a company that doesn’t need to worry about ratings then the worker should do everything in their power to get hired by that agency. This leads to uniformity of coverage. Not because it’s the right way to cover things, but because it’s in the best personal interests of all reporters to toe the line.
The CBC tilts the entire reporting apparatus in the country because they are the safe haven for reporters. The lack of need to make a profit means that they can throw more resources into new ventures (or means of delivery) than a traditional company. The CBC is directly leading to the lack of multiple voices in the mainstream. If you want a stronger medium, cut the CBC off and restore a more balanced playing field.
I am no jays fan or leafs for that matter.I only want the leafs to win when they play the had.
That said I’m no jerry fan. Mr hyperbole or bombast- take your pick. I listen to baseball on the radio every day. Haven’t owned a tv in decades. The good broadcasters can criticize their team for a poor play with class. Not jerry. He BJ’s
Have never made a bad play. Objectivity? Never heard of it.
I try to avoid CBC and the rest of the Canadian press and yesterday I was reminded why. I had a meeting in the local store with golden arches (the coffee is cheap and there is room to sit and talk) and I noticed all the flat screens were tuned to CBC Newsworld. Every time I glanced at one of the screens they were bashing Trump. Now I don’t mind a good bashing but they were doing it in that infantile way that the left ‘criticizes’. Not on substance or debate but with juvenile supposed humour. BTW I am a bit of a baseball fan but I hate the Blue Jays since I am told by the Toronto elite that that is the only games I get to watch. My love for baseball is over ridden by my loathing of the Toronto elite so I simply don’t watch it.
Whoops. ‘When they play the habs
I agree the jays are a bunch of puffed up whining bat flipping home run pimps. If there is a bench clearing in a game guess who’s probably in it? And jerrys right there along with them hyping. My favorite is his “THE BLUE JAY’S ARE IN FLIGHT” as a run comes in on a bases loaded walk. Haha nothing like home town cheap.
“They did it to themselves.” Exactly! They didn’t have the brains to see they were cheering for their own executioner.
Phantom…right on.
Actually, Wall St. killed the news biz. The mechanism was the leveraged buy-out. Global capital, seeking return, buys media properties for inflated prices. The only way to pay the notes and remain in the black was to reduced costs. The biggest cost in the news biz is content. Thus journos get gassed and ad guys get hired. I witnessed it first hand in the early eighties. It took me twenty years to understand what I saw, but as you cast your gaze about the financial world today how many “ethical” investment houses do you see?
The print media will not disappear but it is over in terms of influence. The journos that get hired today at the ‘majors’are the same people that used to work at entry level jobs with small town papers.
Cost cutting moves with the resultant shallow copy. A prescription for desaster.
I have always thought the native names were a tribute to their impact on the culture. It is the bravery and fierceness that is reflected in choosing names like Cleveland Indians. Complaints about “cultural appropriation” are deliberately creating divisions.
I fortunately did not see those articles, but I too am getting sick of their one sided drivel. Not one article on the Clinton’s corruption or the fiasco they are creating in the Middle East.
Den Tandt today was ridiculous — a completely one sided and ill informed analysis of the political dynamic in the States. Either the media is totally controlled, or the journos themselves have been brainwashed. Or maybe they are just dumb. I used to love the National Post. Now I am planning to drop it — total waste.
