I think I will side with the female Spouse..She married the worthless turd because she wanted to escape a dead-end future. The 2 year wait, until she gets her own Status, then she can dump the loser. She will be a good citizen…
I know a few American Engineers who plucked some beautiful foreign ladies, married them and brought them Stateside….They were promptly dumped once she got the Green card…Short term bliss… The poor girl paid a price…When your citizenship is the only thing of value in a relationship..You are a real sad choice…True
No,this is an issue for the federal government,and it existed long before Justin Trudeau, and will still exist long after he is gone.
This isn’t an issue of “my team versus your team” as so many bitter Conservatives are saying right now. Politics isn’t the NHL or CFL, there’s NO team in politics that deserves your blind loyalty. The consequences are too serious.
We have to hold governments accountable,and try to NOT blame everything on the current PM,because of in issue that existed years before he came on the scene, I doubt things will be much better once he’s gone.
We are led by a political elite, CPC and LPC are all members of the same club, let’s not turn it into a “lookit what Trudeau hasn’t done”,when Harper didn’t either.
Yes, it IS the Liberals issue now, let’s wait and see how it turns out.

Better yet is when they have an anchor baby. They not only have a right to stay in the country, the kid’s paid for through the divorce settlement. (I think that was the reason that a certain foreign grad student flirted with me while we were finishing our Ph. D.s….)
One of my undergrad classmates married a woman from Hong Kong in the late 1970s, back when HK was still British. She was studying in Canada at the time, but she still had to return to HK for a few weeks and go through some sort of process to make her stay in Canada permanent and legitimate.
I think that back in the 1970s you could only apply for immigrant status from outside the country.
Although I am not sure about spouses. I know someone who married a Filipino and she took a couple years to get into Canada. Apparently if you marry in Canada, they will let the spouse stay with temporary status, however if the prospective spouse tells the border guard she is coming to Canada to get married she won’t be allowed in. Or something like that.
