With the economy dead, the only thing remaining is to watch as society implodes. To that end, Oscar Meza, Director of the Documentation Center for Social Analysis (Cendas-FVM), said that measurements of scarcity and inflation in May are going to be the worst to date. “We are officially declaring May as the month that [widespread] hunger began in Venezuela,” he told Web Noticias Venezuela. … “As for March, there was an increase in yearly prices due to inflation — a 582.9 percent increase for food, while the level of scarcity of basic products remains at 41.37 percent.”
[…]
The is why, Español Ramón Muchacho, Mayor of Chacao in Caracas, said the streets of the capital of Venezuela are filled with people killing animals for food. “Muchacho reported that in Venezuela, it is a “painful reality” that people “hunt cats, dogs and pigeons” to ease their hunger.”
Related! “We’re going to tell imperialism and the international right that the people are present, with their farm instruments in one hand and a gun in the other… to defend this sacred land,”

“But this time, we’ll get socialism right! Also, all the other times socialism was tried, well, they weren’t practising the ‘real’ socialism.”
And to paraphrase Ronald Reagan,
“Is this it? Have we reached full socialism?”
“Oh no. It’s going to get a lot worse.”
One would think that the presence of a real life dystopian example of socialism could at lease serve to discredit the narrative of successful socialism but no, the professoriate is as red as it has been for the last century. Ironically, the McCarthy era likely did more to mainstream socialism than anything since.
I await the Sean penn telethon. Perhaps Barack will call in and pledge a few sheckles or donate his winnings from his next round of government-funded golf.
Elections have consequences. Pity those with brains but I sincerely that those who voted for Chavez and Maduro starve to the last one of them.
“As for March, there was an increase in yearly prices due to inflation — a 582.9 percent increase for food”
Huh Pikers. Let me know when they reach 1000.
One wonders how many times this experiment must be undertaken. Unbelievable stupidity.
Venezuelan, socialism’s latest new flavour.
But it tastes the same.
how long before socialism kills Canada? I wonder why we think we are immune to destructive policies that are now being expanded in Canada?
So Ontario went to see this old gypsy lady….
just look at kristianity, then you may get and idea of how long stupid lasts!!!
and maybe the pope can go down there and turn a few barrels of oil into wine, not whine
The people are getting what they voted for. Who am I to tell them they can’t have it.
Surah 18:86 “and when he reached the setting of the sun, he found that it set in pond of murky water” quran.
When it comes to stupidity nothing comes close to the teachings of Mohammed. Oh great islamic scholars (can’t say it without laughing) show us this magical pond and prove to the world your “religion” is legitimate and inspired by divine wisdom.
Can we see this pond on “google earth”?

as soon as the voting rules are changed we, old white guys and gals, are consigned to the dustbin of history. And Canada will be just like Venezuela.
Lefties are impenetrable. Point out that Venezuela has rampant crime, violence, oppression, shortages of everything to the point of starvation leading to food riots and they’ll come back with some lame nonsense like, “Yes, but they have social justice.”
Does anyone know the firearm ownership situation in Venezuela? These people are putting up with so much and doing nothing, are they disarmed? Does only the army have firearms and the people can only grin and bear it?
there is a time coming when people in n america will harvest dandelions for food instead of falling for the chemical industry manufactured need to destroy them for cosmetic reasons.
there is an appalling amount of food wasted from the fussiness of consumers, transportation, market manipulation, politics, regulations, etc.
sign of the times.
What struck me in the “related” article was how quickly the government moved to suspend the constitution. Take note, my American friends, take note.
Cite the better example – do tell us of a country that is prosperous but also does not care about cosmetic appearance.
A timely reminder. Very sad situation for those struggling in Venezuela. I think the problems there could easily spread elsewhere. The voters may bear some responsibility, but Canadian voters are not so smart either. With increasing debt loads and entitled groups lining up at the trough, we are headed in a similar direction. The outcome of the last election makes it clear that we do not particularly care about sound financial management.
The important questions are: Did the starving Venezuelans take mass transit to the riot? And do the looted supermarkets have trangendered washrooms?
The average Canadian will never hear this story. Has anyone here seen any stories about this in the newspapers or on the TV news?
Been disarmed for a decade, I believe.
Perhaps the media will one day report on how the USA led by the evil capitalist, Obama, has sabotaged Venezuela’s economy just as it did in that other workers’ paradise, Cuba.
No, that wouldn’t do. I wonder if Bush and Cheney are somehow behind it all.

Venezuela is simply following the familiar pattern in South America. This pattern was set in the 1800s. Corruption rampant. Petty dictator. Military will seize power. Revolution will follow. Culture, genetics, and overpopulation mandate savage killing. A new despot will rise from the ashes. Many parallels in Africa as well, in fact African infusion is part of the cause.
Oil is cheap right now. Timing of the revolution is good for oil consuming countries. We don’t need their heavy crude. Let them fight it out without interfering.
Ontario now has the No. 1 sub-sovereign debt in the world at $22,000-plus per person.
Quebec is ranked No. 4 on that list.
Under the leadership of the drama teacher, Canada will be plunged into debt even thought the economy is not in recession.
I’m hoping the price of oil will stay low for another three years so Alberta’s quasi-Marxist regime can be relegated to the scrap heap of history.
Patience to all and better meds for nme666 to cope with his irrational hatred.
Venezuela really, really needs a Pinochet about now.
Heh…
They did the socialism right, that is exactly the end result.
Without fail.
100% predictable.
If Canada goes the same way, it will end exactly the same, it will just take a longer time for the socialists to spend the other peoples money.
now now , set you flee, yer just upset because I didn’t choose the other Abrahamic base religion.
they say bullsh!t baffles brains, so I assume you ain’t baffled.
It’s cute how you guys point to this as an example of socialism, while ignoring the fact that countries like Canada, New Zealand, and the Nordic nations are not only considered socialist, but are some of the most economically successful and free nations in the world. Ah well… what else should be expected from extremists like you lot?
Ahh..John..they are “considered” socialist by those that only look at its healthcare and social services.
Canada’s wealth and prosperity has always been predicated on its adherence to capitalistic principles and democratic rule of law.
Soylent Green is about to become a reality in your socialist paradise of Venezuela , but of course, we are the extremists.
I will be thinking of you when the first images emerge of Venezuela’s leaders swinging from lamp posts.
GT: I agree with your point, but to refine my point is that this terrible situation of starvation in former prosperous areas is still in the future. what happens in venezuela shows us the chaos.
@John:
While Canada and Venezuela have similar sized and relatively small populations, New Zealand, and the Nordic nations all have populations smaller than New York City. What will happen to the Nordic nations when the oil is gone and the money runs out. We shall see.
But more to the point, culture (and genetics) matter in a society. When the culture is uniform, disciplined, educated, affluent and the population is small there is relative harmony regardless of the political system. New Zealand understands this and protects it’s borders. The Nordic countries and Canada not so much. The wheel is in spin. We’ll see how this works out in 10 years.
I think if the kinks can be taken out of hydrogen as an automobile fuel, the nordic nations are going to find out sooner rather than later, their actual level of expertise in many things again. Like, guns from Husqvarna, for example.
Note: I’m not anti-oil, I like oil actually, I’m just not optimistic for it in the long run.
If this planet had been “blessed” with limitless supplies of hydrogen, we would have been forced to invent gasoline. Seriously, it is about the worst possible choice of combustible substance for an internal combustion engine.
1. very low energy density
2. hard to store, cannot be kept liquid except in cryogenic conditions
3. very prone to leak through tiny cracks, or even diffuse through metal vessels due to small molecular size
4. cause hydrogen embrittlement of steel
5. readily forms an explosive mixture with air
6.cannot be odorized to make leaks readily apparent
I wonder if Maduro has ever heard of Nicolae Ceausescu?
So how long before True-doh further increases Canada’s debt, sending “aid” to Venezuela.
Nobody is gunning for your country, Nicky old bean, it’s you we’d like to see dead, you and every other Marxist asshole on the planet. As soon as possible.
Does that clear up your confusion?
