There’s long been a leftist political tinge to it. I remember when solar energy was being promoted back in the late 1960s/early ’70s. It was often associated with hippies and back-to-the-landers–in other words, the counter-culture.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t changed much since then. The fact that renewable energy is an interesting technical problem by itself is disregarded.
The UN/EU climate nonsense has always been about commerce & competing markets…Science has not shown it’s ugly head (always the unknown scientists) mostly economists spouting theory. The UN needs a independent Source of money to fund it’s world Government ambitions. They may say they intend on third world redistribution, but most will disappear into the same sticky hands as todays UN funds.
The time to disband the UN is near, The method of preventing war between the super powers has changed and constant communications has become normal. The useless chatter between third world countries would be better understood without the 1960’s Caviar & Champaign parties in NYC (hot dogs & beer in the UN Tent Cities)

There’s an odd supposition in this “wealth transfer” claptrap that Western, capitalism, industrialism and technology somehow “took” everything from the backward, undeveloped (or mis-developed) POOR countries. As if Western capitalism, etc. hasn’t GIVEN so much to the world ? Not just wealth and jobs, but also numerous modern conveniences and inventions, medicine, food production, etc.
This isn’t even about wealth transfer, let-alone Global Warming or the environment. It really just comes down to jealousy, envy, and greed. These LOSER States of the UN are simply self-loathing welfare cases.

It reminds me of what I saw in high school. I worked hard at my studies and I graduated Grade 12 with a high grade point average.
The majority of my classmates goofed off, didn’t do much, and thought *I* was an idiot for keeping my nose in a book. They accused me of being a teacher’s pet and the usual comments along the line of “there are only so many As given out and you *stole* the ones I should have had”.
But, at the end of the term, I was one of the few who didn’t have to write departmental exams as I kept my average consistently high enough that I was exempt. (Departmental exams? Yeah, I’m that old!) That meant that I could work at my summer job and earn money while my classmates were writing.
I was one of the few in my class who went on for post-secondary studies, actually finished a degree, and got out of that one-horse town in the middle of nowhere. Most of the rest stayed there, married, had babies, and often got divorced.

I do not have any link available; maybe someone does, but did not Maurice Strong, one of the father’s of the AGW fraud, maintain already in the late 1940s that the reduction of the standard of living in the west and a wealth transfer to the third world was the focus of his effort?

Excellent point Al, and I agree 100%. And at the provincial level, the PCs in Ontario think they will get somewhere by jumping on the global warming bandwagon. They are stupid beyond words. You don’t beat leftists by adopting their dumb ideas.
In BC the Liberals have gone in for global warming nonsense, but the *only* reason they stay in power is because the alternative – the NDP – is so damned awful that most people cannot bring themselves to vote for them.
All that said, I do worry about the next generation of voters that are entering the system. The brainwashing that has gone on in school regarding global warming is beyond what you can imagine. Kids are not taught to think anymore, only to follow leftist doctrine. Many of them are so convinced that global warming is true that when they get around to voting they will only vote for parties that preach the same doctrine.
Depressing. A course correction may be a long time in the making, and might only happen when the true extent of the global warming fraud is revealed.
