I wasn’t entirely surprised at what happened in Belgium lately.
I was a grad student in the mid-1990s and, for a year, we had a Belgian post-doctoral fellow in our lab. He was a decent and reasonably friendly chap, but I got the distinct impression that he looked down on us here in Canada. He acted as if we were a bunch of unsophisticated bumpkins and that he, an “enlightened” European, was, somehow, superior.
Perhaps he thought that, with time, he could have “civilized” us.
If he was typical of what his fellow countrymen were like, then the situation over there is one of their own making. Maybe they let in all those Muslims with the hope that they may acquire some of the better characteristics of being European.

One thing I’ve noticed about liberals/progressives/leftist/commies is that they *don’t* learn from history.
I used to be friends with someone many years ago. He quietly became a hard-core socialist and is now a clergyman, presumably still preaching from the gospels of St. Marx and St. Lenin.
He was convinced that socialism was right, good, and just. When I mentioned to him incidents such as the Holomodor and reminded him that Uncle Joe was really a bloodthirsty tyrant, as were the likes of Mao and Kim Il-Sung, he brushed all that aside. Nothing was going to sway him from his beliefs and, if a few million innocent citizens should just happen to die in building the socialist paradise, well, that’s the price they had to pay.
Then again, he wanted to ban nuclear weapons–only in the west, of course. The Soviet Union would *never* have launched a nuclear strike. While he believed in “thou shalt not kill”, he also cheered all manner of armed left-wing revolutions in Latin American and Africa–the more violent, the more just it was.
Thus bunch isn’t just blind to history. It’s hypocritical.

You did not hear about that because the media was too busy reporting on a “snitch line” which was really a help line for victims. “States rule over a diverse population”. That right there is yer problem. We used to have nation states, which were just big tribes, where everyone more or less believed the same things. When you start importing people who believe radically different things, like that you should be dead because you are from a different culture or religion you are bound to run into problems.
