A conservative estimate of Canada’s existing carbon-absorption capacity, based on land area and the global carbon-absorption average, indicates that Canada could already be absorbing 20 to 30 per cent more CO2 than we emit. Using the same calculation, the “Big Four” polluters of China, the U.S., the European Union, and India, which together are responsible for a whopping 60 per cent of global CO2 emissions, release 10 times more CO2 than their combined land area absorbs. Canada doesn’t seem very dirty now, do we?
So when was the last time you heard a Canadian political leader, let alone the media, talk about our carbon-absorption capacity? Probably never, because we are currently ignoring that side of the equation, for a couple reasons…

No government will never pay to absorb carbon because the goal is to get money, not to reduce carbon output. People are easily talked into paying higher taxes.

Thinking like the faithful clergy of the green theocracy, Carbon taxing is the national self-flagellating of the guilt-ridden for being prosperous. The twist is there is no “self” involved, just the imposition on the serfs from the fascist elected clergy.
And this is EXACTLY why I have been saying for a very long time that even if necessary CO2 emissions should NOT be based per capita, but rather on the surface area of the country. Because that accounts for everything INCLUDING unchecked population growth. But per capita is the ONLY way the West can be screwed out of coin.
Why should anyone pay a CarbonTax in Canada? If anything, we should be receiving a CarbonTax credit, since our forests absorb more CO2 than we emit.
However somebody has to pay for all those election promises and the cost of a 400 person delegation to the Paris Climate Games. The primary purpose of those Games was to convince those who voted for this government that they should feel guilty about the CO2 their lifestyle emits. Paying a CarbonTax is supposed to make them feel better about it. This guilt-tax concept is similar to the Indulgences sold by the Church in Medieval times as “a way to reduce the amount of punishment one has to undergo for sins”.

While I agree with the premise of the article this sentence is indicitive of what is wrong with the “debate” on “climate change”

I will guarantee you that even if the above is true regarding Canadians perspective, that Most Canadians do not have the slightest idea about the subject other than CO2 is bad bad bad, nor are they going to get any better informed on the issue – unless they take the initiative to do educate themselves. Not going to happen since it is far better to be cloaked in the comfy fur of moral and intellectual superiority that comes with parroting Lib/Media narrative.
And that is what this is being sold as – a moral responsibility to serve a greater good – so it won’t matter a whit to a lefty that Canada’s carbon emissions are net negative.
In reality, there is far more evidence that supports the idea that more CO2 will have a positive impact on the environment, primarily through more lush vegitation, and increased plant/crop yields.

Emitting or absorbing carbon is irrelevant.
Now that Canada is a 20% negative CO2 emitter, I suggest Turdeau ask for the 2.5B back and
invoice the UN for 0.5B.
Why is it, do you think, that no one in the political class ever states this obvious truth? We were brought up to assume that the world is a rational place (at least the non-rogue and previously successful parts of the Western world). It clearly is not. I am sickened by the manipulation of the population that is taking place. The intention ultimately is to implement international socialism (trans national). Carbon taxes and the phony global warming scam are key pieces in the plan. Liberals will deliver us to this fate faster than Conservatives would have. (Trump, if successful, will delay things a bit.) Poor Canadians — most have no idea what the Liberals are planning for them.
