“The Canadian Supreme Court’s opinion specifically said that, in Belgium and the Netherlands, the ‘predicted abuse and disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations has not materialized.'”
Thus did a man in his 30s whose only diagnosis was autism become one of 110 people to be euthanized for mental disorders in the Netherlands between 2011 and 2014. That’s the rough equivalent of 2,000 people in the United States.

So 30 years ago or so they treated mental illness. Then they started “treating in the community”. In other words they threw them into the streets to become homeless people. Now society is going to be able to kill them. We can’t kill multiple murderers but the Supreme Court says we can kill sick people.
It’s worse than that! You can consent while mentally competent and they will kill you when you are in full blown dementia.
A woman cannot give consent to sex prior to a sexual encounter that includes erotic asphyxiation because the courts have ruled you need to be able to give ongoing consent to sex otherwise it is rape, but a dementia patient can give previous consent to be killed and despite their inability to give confirmation of that consent we are still going to kill them. I guess rape is literally the new murder and murder is now a medical procedure. And we’re still installing suicide barriers on bridges for some reason.
We don’t need euthanasia now for the mental ill, we have easy to get fetanyl on the streets.
I’ve tried without success to convince my parents of the dangers of euthanasia. The biggest danger to me is that you would consent at one point in some kind of living will and then when the conditions laid out occur and you can no longer communicate you change your mind. Too late, Kevorkian is ready to make his snuff film at that point. Never mind all the horrific nazi-like death chambers that will sprout up to get rid of various patients with costly to treat illnesses.
“In the Netherlands, doctors may perform euthanasia — not only for terminal physical illness but also upon the “voluntary and well-considered” request of those suffering “unbearably” from incurable mental conditions.”
These are entirely two different conversations and I am tired of the dishonesty of those who use the latter to defile the former. Stay the hell out of what is MY PERSONAL DECISION to make.
To deny any human being the dignity and release to end real suffering is to offer less compassion than we give to stray dogs.
As I have stated many times before, I believe the faaar right is out to deny my freedoms every bit as much as the faaar left.
Especially your freedom to have everyone else pay for your suicide. They are so selfish.
Dittos from me.
In a culture that worships youth and irresponsibility, how else would they react to old age and death?
Dying is easy.
The government rules will only apply to the immobile and helpless.
The simple “Do not resuscitate” would work well enough,if the bureaucrats would respect that request.
The state, junior bureaucrats, assume authority they never had and then impose their will upon the weak and helpless.
Small minds seeking minor power.
Just another reason to shrink government and fire all public employees every 5 years.
Funny how difficult to understand life is from a bureaucratic point of view.
Oh dear, a sexually transmitted terminal disease, how can we regulate these annoying unpredictable phases of life.
I’ll get behind euthanasia for mental conditions the day they properly classify socialism as a mental illness.
Seems like a desirable solution; Tanker
Stay the hell out of what is MY PERSONAL DECISION to make.
Gladly, don’t expect state sponsored help…how’s that for staying out of your ‘personal’ decision?
I am floored that anyone has a problem with advanced consent.
Why should anyone want to live warehoused in a facility while they lose their mind?
Under the rules today people diagnosed with such conditions have to commit suicide prior to losing the minds.
This could mean they die years before the disease destroyed them.
And people think this regime shows more respect for life?
Nonsense.
And people think this regime shows more respect for life?
Ah, so ‘respect for life’ is killing someone? Where you from, the Ministry of Truth?
forcing someone to commit suicide years before it is necessary to avoid getting trapped by the law: no respect for life.
allowing someone to live as long as they can without the fear of being trapped for years/decades in an institution: respect for life.
“….don’t expect state sponsored help…how’s that for staying out of your ‘personal’ decision?”
Good point.
Don’t know what ever happened to “banishment”, it seems like a perfect solution for those who can’t deal with or wish to harm society, without society needing to kill or imprison them outright.
They can always be hung as enemy combatants if they return.
The next step on the slippery slope will be stop treating people older than let say 80 years, their quality of life is not like it was, anyway. Millennials are pushing Boomers off the cliff.
You just want to implicate others in your suicide…as always, misery loves company. You want to decide when to die, do it yourself.
Socialists, always behind forcing others to do what they can’t, or won’t, do themselves.
Why not follow what was done in “Logan’s Run”: at 30, everyone is “renewed” in Carousel?
>I am floored that anyone has a problem with advanced consent.
>Why should anyone want to live warehoused in a facility while they lose their mind?
I wonder if you could elaborate on how exactly you think the euthanasia of a patient in full blown dementia would happen? Would the patient, having signed a consent years ago but now utterly incapable of remembering or understanding it, be lead to nice clean room where he is kindly strapped to a gurney while caring doctors gently insert the IV needles and start the flow of the euthanasia drugs, all the while calming ocean sounds are playing through the rooms speakers? I can’t imagine too many dementia patients doing that without some level of objection.
the thumpers defer to “GOD”, cuz they’re to sh*t scared to make their own decisions, just like lefties who want the state to do every thing for them
These fools released the Djinn from the bottle, and they cannot put it back in.
Belgium and Holland deserve whatever misery they suffer for laying the groundwork for the resurrection of the dreaded Aktion T4 program that the Nazis so “progressively” pioneered…
The Dutch doctor’s euthanasia of the the 26 year old ballerina with arthritis in her toes must not have made the reading list of the material submitted to the Supremes.
Do Jews automatically get to the top of the list ? Just wondering.
Of course there is always the ISIS Euthanasia & Beheading Emporium. The rates are pretty cheap and there hasn’t been any post-treatment complaints from clients.
Why all the big hullaballoo about youth in asia? I’m sure there are many fine young men and women in asia. There should be no controversy.
I suppose it is one way to make sure that the budget balances itself. Killing is much cheaper than treatment you know. So let’s all hold hands, grow economy from the hart and kill those unable to defend themselves. Oh come on, don’t be offended, we do it to our unborn children already, why not do it to the mentally ill and the elderly as well?
I wonder if offing your grandma can earn you some carbon tax credits? Also, will soylent green be free only for low income students in the university cafeterias? It is a brave new world we live in.
“Belgium and Holland deserve whatever misery they suffer for laying the groundwork”
Maybe you didn’t hear?
The Holy Supremes of Canada have moved to spake through their political prophets in parliament and we will be getting much the same as Holland; the socialist holy of holies according to our intellectual superiors.
“…reason to shrink government and fire all public employees every 5 years. …”
I see too many problems with firing them all at five year intervals. In at least some jobs we’d suffer without continuity. I suggest an annual lottery that chucks out a percentage, and some of them permanently to demonstrate to the rest that they aren’t guaranteed employment for life.
I agree.
No doubt, and as spike 1 asks, “Do Jews automatically get to the top of the list”, or Christians (happened before), or freedom loving people that will not conform to the “new order”.
Colonialista, ah yes, a brave new world. Where have we heard that before, “It is for the good of the people”.
Indeed, seems like a new dark age is coming. Any so called libertarian who believes that state apparatchiks can be trusted with ending someone’s life needs to have their head thoroughly examined … preferably in a public clinic.
There may be some silver lining to it. Given how long it takes to get a treatment in publik health care industry, people stand a good chance to die from old age before the state ripper visits them. On the other hand, I am certain that liberals with connections will be able to jump the cue. Let them I say.
“It is a brave new world we live in”
A world where, if you are thinking suicide, the state and its doctors should be required to support you financially and emotionally all the way in your voyage to your long home.
Alternatively the lefties don’t want you to self-medicate for that trip and heaven forbid if you use a GUN. The state hates guns because they’re the leading cause of death by suicide.
Only the ‘functionally insane’ want doctors to become executioners on demand.
There are people who will take money to kill other people they are known to mankind as:
ASSASSINS
Folks engaging in this behaviour are no longer doctors, they are simply hired killers, for they are no longer trying to cure or ameliorate a condition.
Dr Mengele would be proud; maybe they should issue them double SS runes for their lapels, so you know your dealing with a bona fide qualified killer.
I mean if you’re gonna “ICE” folks for a fee, by appropriating the assassin’s business model, at least they should look the part.
Saving the government money on health care expenditures one death at a time,
cause it’s ‘compassionate’ to drop them in the grave efficiently!
Cheers

So… will they be euthanising HIV patients? I mean there’s no cure for that.
“Stay the hell out of what is MY PERSONAL DECISION to make.”
If someone has to assist you in ending your life, it’s no longer a personal decision.
You have no right to demand someone kill you.
Curious, will medical school be required for these, ahem, doctors, or can we just get some folks with previous experience from the prison system and they can call it a work program?
How about none may be employed within the civil service more that 5 years in every 20, as the brain damage caused by being a “career”civil servant is obvious.
Then stagger the hiring or conscription so some continuity exists.
Conscription would be quite fun,as the uselessness of so much of government would be rubbed into the consciousness of the poor conscripts.
early on in the Dutch system, a snotnose where I worked praised their application of euthanasia.
by lucky coincidence, that evening the local bird cage liner had an article raising the alarm about the Dutch applying the rules in some questionable cases. I clipped it and put it in my pocket to shove it in the face of the snotnose.
Didn’t get the chance, he was fired before lunch break.
“Curious, will medical school be required for these, ahem, doctors…”
Hey, we’ll be able to make some important efficiencies now!
For a start, we can combine the medical and veterinary professions into one all-purpose discipline.
Just how many of the murderers in Canada (or that matter the rest of the civilized world), when faced with a lifetime in prison, have requested and received, the end of their useless lives?
I’m guessing 0.
You can only wish, your dog gets better health care than you already and an average vet is a better professional than your average family doctor.
“[Y]our dog gets better health care than you already…”
That’s because my dog’s medical plan is covered by a VISA card rather than an OHIP one.
Yes, exactly, although you can buy insurance for your dog as well .
The supreme court is talking out of both sides of its mouth.
On one hand its said that risk is unavoidable and that with strict controls it can be minimized. What no one is asking is “what are the risks they’re talking about”.
AT its most fundamental level, the risk is MURDER.
The Canadian Medical association found that in Flanders Belgium, in approximately 1/3 of the cases the looked at no explicit request was made by the patient. (http://www.cmaj.ca/content/182/9/895)
That is to say, for every 10 patients whose lives were taken at their request by a doctor (can we use that word in this context?) 5 were murdered.
This is the way we reverse this.
The next time you talk to your MP (and I encourage you to schedule a meeting with them), “How many Canadians will we tolerate being murdered so that a few can live and die on their own terms?” The follow up is, “and how will we know if we’ve pass that tolerable amount”.
If you are talking to an actual advocate for this, you hit harder. “How many Canadians would you have murdered so that you can enjoy your life as you want?”
This will immediately put them on the defensive. Make them prove that they’re not murdering people. They want to take the moral high road of “dignity” and “rights”, take the higher one.
