Kevin D Williamson on New York City Council’s perverse choice of heroes:
The Communist movement worldwide murdered some 100 million people over the course of the 20th century. The Soviet enterprise specifically, to which Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were fiercely committed — they are described as “devoted” in the Soviet literature — had at the time of the Rosenbergs’ recruiting already intentionally starved to death some 8 million people in Ukraine for the purposes of political terror. I do not wish to include them here, but put “Holodomor” into Google images if you want a visual indicator of this.

Stalin’s planned Holodomor had multiple objectives beside the annihilation
of “rich peasants” who were firmly opposed to having their land stolen and
turned into collective and state farms. Much of the seized harvest was sold
on the grain exchanges of western Europe and the proceeds were used to
buy equipment for the USSR’s armament programs.
The Rosenbergs were the cause célèbre of their day. All the usual suspects popped up in their defence and a “National Committee to Secure Justice in the Rosenberg Case” was formed. The trial was branded “America’s Dreyfus Case” by French intellectuals.
But they were guilty as sin all along.
They would later show up in declassified VENONA information and – most embarrassingly for those who had continued to proclaim their innocence down through the years – in old KGB files opened up after the fall of the Soviet Union.
The Chi-Cons killed a lot more innocent people then did the Nazis Mao was a bigger War Crinimal then Hitler ever was then Lenin deverted all the Ukrians grain shipmens cuasing massive starvation then therse the attrocities of Stalin,Kruschev,Castro just to name a few more looked upon by brain-dead liberals as great men
Do we need a greater example of how the communist big lie dulls the sense of reality and removes one’s moral compass replacing it with the politics of expediency. The Rosenbers (big C commies) were blind to the pogroms communist power heaped on their people and blind to the fact they even sold out their own country . These latter day prog soviets(small c commies) on city council also show the same sense of dulled reality and morally conflicted actions. It’s genetic in the ideology – once political officers make the leap form public servants to public controllers/manipulators Karl Marx’s primary change of human heart is complete.
My father’s generation had no time to search for the root causes of communist barbarism, he just know the only thing that would cure communism of its perfidy and atrocity was another world war – fortunately the atom and capitalism intervened and commie capitalism has sated their material lust and open cruelty but not their capacity for treachery and hegemony.
The only civilized communist is a decease done.
As a Canadian I’m envious in some ways of the UK and Australia. We have our share of unhinged female “progressive” writers, who hold themselves to a lower standard of civilized behaviour and intellectual rigour by virtue of the fact that they are indignant women, but I can only marvel at the level of fright-battery in the non-North-American Anglosphere.
Two Monuments
Of the many monuments that dot Havana neighborhoods, two in particular often surprise visitors. One is a memorial commemorating Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, convicted of passing atomic secrets to the Soviet Union, and executed following a judicial farce. The words on it read, “For Peace Bread And Roses We Will Face The Executioner. Ethel And Julius Rosenberg. Assassinated June 19, 1953.”
The other is a life-size statute of Beatle John Lennon sitting on a bench in a park named for him. At his feet is the inscription in Spanish, “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one,” from the song “Imagine.” The Beatles were banned from Cuban airwaves from 1964–66 when the government promoted indigenous music as revolutionary. The statue was unveiled in 2000 with Fidel Castro in attendance.

Occam: “blind” to the pogroms?
If I understand Orwell’s and Dalrymple’s brilliant insights into the logic of the big lie, it requires that its victims know it’s a lie. That, I think, is the import of “big”. The point of the lie was not to convince; it was, rather, to force acquiescence in the lie, and so to destroy one’s claim to know true from false, right from wrong. Here is how it works: (Note: “works”—present tense, since this strategy is as alive now as it was under Stalin.)
Once you submit to what you know is a lie, several things follow immediately: (1) You have to accept the fact that you are complicit in the lie; (2) To be complicit is the lie, to assent to the lie, makes you a liar; (3) To prefer the lie to the truth is evil; (4) You are therefore evil.
Now, to the monstrous intended effect of the big lie: Having accepted that you are a liar and evil, you are forced to admit to yourself that you are not an independent arbiter of truth, good or right. Any claim that you might make on behalf of truth, etc., is therefore without merit. Thus is the concept of the individual person, understood since the Enlightenment to be, at least potentially, a source of truth and good judgement, destroyed. (“But communism is for the people!”) Once thought and judgement in the individual are destroyed, and once God has been ruled out of court, where else can one look for guidance on what to believe and desire than to the state? Its the only authority available. Thus, totalitarianism is the only way to go! QED.
What’s fascinating about this monstrous strategy is that it works, for a time, until it no longer works. Try as the totalitarians might, they cannot destroy the connections we persons have to objective reality, and thus to the basis of good and evil, right and wrong. Persons are the sort of creature that are inextricably hooked up to objective reality. Try as any politics might, it cannot undo that connection.
Note, now, that the very undoing of the big lie strategy is baked into its beginnings: for it to work at all, its victims have to recognize the lie as a lie. How else can they do that than by having independent access to the truth?
“after the fall of the Soviet Union”
The Soviet Union did not “fall”, they did not “collapse” nor “implode”, they were not beaten.
There was a publically recorded vote to dissolve the Union.
On 8 December 1991, the presidents of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus (formerly Byelorussia), signed the Belavezha Accords, which declared the Soviet Union dissolved and established the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in its place. While doubts remained over the authority of the accords to do this, on 21 December 1991, the representatives of all Soviet republics except Georgia signed the Alma-Ata Protocol, which confirmed the accords. On 25 December 1991, Gorbachev resigned as the President of the USSR, declaring the office extinct. He turned the powers that had been vested in the presidency over to Yeltsin. That night, the Soviet flag was lowered for the last time, and the Russian tricolor was raised in its place.
The following day, the Supreme Soviet, the highest governmental body of the Soviet Union, voted both itself and the Soviet Union out of existence.
The meme that the Soviet Union “fell”, “collapsed”, “imploded”, or were “beaten” in the Cold War is based on a misapprehension of what exactly the Soviet Union was in the first place*, and in the second place that misapprehension has lead to the West lowering it’s guard and being unprepared to meet Russian intentions for Russia’s planned future place in the World.
None of the non-Russian Soviet Republics joined the Soviet Union voluntarily.
They were subverted and coerced by international communists who owed their loyalty to Moscow.
*Russia was always the Soviet Republic that called all the shots and was merely surrounded by nations(the other Soviet Republics) which Russia used as massive human shields.
Russia forced all the other Soviet Republics to join and used them until they were more trouble than they were worth and then discarded them at Russia’s convenience.
In short, the Soviet Union was always Russia.
Exactly! While the Holodomor is named for events of collectivization and the planned murder of millions took place in Ukraine, similar policy was implemented elsewhere in Soviet Russia. Particularly, for my family, the collectivization took place where my relatives lived in the Ural foothills near the city of Orenburg. Thankfully my grandfather was able to escape in 1926, but his two brothers and five brothers-in-law stayed and suffered these collectivization events. All died in labour camps.
As others above write, the lie continues and many in the US and Canada are falling for it.
This sort of fawning was bound to happen.
Is it revolting in every respect? Yes.
This is why air-lifting contemporary communists to North Korea is a must.
