“It feels good to have the Catholic Church back interfering with science.” – @SteveSGoddard

Ha, I have always found it hilarious that when insulting the intelligence of warmists, many skeptics accuse them of blindly following a religion.
Thus, the warmists could not have found a more professionally trained pitchman to sell unprovable claims and predictions as unquestionable fact to the masses.
Well, “global warming” IS a religion.
Ironic to watch the leftist CNN, MessNBC, etc, EMBRACE the Catholic Pope, while denigrating Christianity at every turn, on every other day.
Helps to be a commie leftist, being adored by the leftist press.
This is the Hammer and Cicle pope, get a load of his pendant…….what kind of “g_d on Earth” is this heathen? (with respect to God)
The current pope seems intent on being one of the beautiful people, the ones who don’t live in reality, rail against capitalism, but are OK with it paying the shot. Then again is something more sinister happening? I’m not saying this is certain or even true, but it is interesting:
Is Pope Francis the False Prophet?
“St. Malachy was the Archbishop of Armagh, Ireland. He claimed he experienced a vision while visiting Rome in 1139 AD. He said he saw every pope that would exist from the time of his vision until the last pope. The last pope would be the 112th from the time of his vision. Malachy also stated that God would judge His people and the city of Rome would be destroyed during the reign of the last pope. In Malachy’s vision, a clue was given as to the identity of each pope, including the 112th one. The clue for the 112th pope was “Peter the Roman”.
St. Malachy wrote his vision of the popes down, and it is believed the manuscript was given to Pope Innocent II. The prophecy of the popes was then deposited in the Vatican Secret Archives and forgotten until its rediscovery in 1590. Malachy’s vision was then published in 1595 and has circulated on and off ever since.”
It was not until 2005 that Malachy’s prophecies began to attract a lot of attention. Pope John Paul II was on his deathbed. Someone noticed that he was the 110th pope from Malachy’s time. That meant the next pope would be the 111th and then, if Malachy’s prophecy were true, the 112th pope would be the last pope. To some that meant the end of the world would then come.”
On February 11, 2013, Pope Benedict shocked the world by announcing his intention to resign from the papacy. This was the first resignation of a pope while in office in over 600 years. Benedict said that, at the age of 85, he no longer had the strength to execute the duties of leading the Roman Catholic Church.”
It was time to elect the 112th pope foretold in the vision of St. Malachy!” http://www.endtime.com/endtime-magazine-articles/pope-francis-false-prophet/
No matter what, he seems to be dismantling Roman Catholicism, under the guise of modernizing it. His many ways to Heaven musing are in direct contradiction with doctrine and he is treading on dangerous ecclesiastical ground.
Yup…. they really got it right last time also when they claimed the earth was flat.
And getting it wrong as usual.
Exactly! You beat me to it.
yuppers Shamrock, the world is ending, send me all your evil money!!!
good god man the world has been predicted to end for 2000 years now. Git a grip!!!!
The Leader of the “Warmin Catholic Church”.
When in “Warm” do as the “Warmins” do.
yup, one has to wonder, when you delve into ST M’s writings, how accurate he was in his prognostications…..and this ‘pope’ is doing NOTHING to dispel those prophecies.
Obama blathers all over him, what does that tell you?
The AC and the False Prophet, in the same room……………………hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm……
So what’s a body got to do to get himself excommunicated nowadays?
Piss on an Al Gore bobblehead? Carry a sign saying AGW is a crock?
Like I said, just threw it out there without conclusion or opinion, for interest’s sake. Send me money if you want, but I use my powers only for good.
St. Malachy sounds a bit like Nostradamus. An interesting bit of papal history.
The internet will outlast the catholic church. You can’t scare educated people with fear that some sky god will inflict eternal damnation. That dog don’t hunt.
The new religion is the environment. Not exactly hard core dogma but religious fervor just the same.
“Yup…. they really got it right last time also when they claimed the earth was flat.”
Er, no. That’s just another very tired old myth.
Scholars – at least in Europe and the Middle East – considered the earth to be spherical since at least the Third Century BC; Christian scholars held that belief as well (and even for ancient sailors, there was never any doubt about the spherical shape of the earth). What was not known for certain in earlier times – what could not be known for sure until there were long-distance sea voyages – was: did the sphere go right around? Someone had to sail off and find that out the hard way.
On the matter of geocentrism, the Church position gradually evolved towards heliocentrism. But in this instance, the Church simply reflected what was obvious to even the most casual observer of the heavens: the sun and planets clearly rotated around the earth. It would take considerable scientific observation to prove the case otherwise.
But of course, since we’re all so much smarter than all those ignorant dopes who lived before us, there’s no chance that anything we take for granted as true and scientifically valid will ever prove to be nonsense, is there?
“The internet will outlast the catholic church.”
If you say so, O great wise one who ignores the rules of capitalization!
Bet you knew the NDP would win in Alberta too.
Somehow I’m not digesting the math in St. Malachy’s vision. The Pope (Innocent 2) during 1139, was the 164th. Being that Pope Francis is the 266th…that’s 102 Popes later, not 112.
Yeah those capitalization rules….ya shouldn’t ignore them….not even on purpose.
The Catholic Church did not have an issue with Galileo because of his science. The issue was because he was using his findings to interpret what the Bible meant.
I believe it was a Catholic monk who first wrote about the Big Bang or predicted or postulated it
Except, you know, that this Pope is actually following the advice of the scientific community. Which, by the way, is in consensus that climate change is happening, and that humans are the primary cause. But by all means, please proceed with your logical fallacy.
I was wondering when we’d get an eyeful of your prized wisdom. I guess it hasn’t been mentioned to you that scientific fact is not arrived at by your “consensus.” There is no democracy in science.
The argument for AGW is not improved upon by the stature of those pushing it. Consensus can truly be found in abundance with the many clear cases of fraud attached to the politics of promoting the myth of AGW.
Your assertions are that of a high schooler. I’m kind of doubtful that you really believe them yourself. Your real aim must be to stir things up like some kind of sophomoric prank. Too shallow to be real. Your thoughts would have more gravitas at the Torstar …or take your pick of many at the MSM cesspool. You can’t really believe that any point you’ve made will have traction here. Nope. You are just being a clown.
Enviroemntalisms a new age pgan religion that demands to sacrifice of the unborn to satan just like satanists do
“…following the advice of the scientific community.”
A fraud made up by the votes of a few dozen of government granted scientists out of 2 thousand polled. Thirty thousand real scientists signed a document calling out this scam. Is New York under water yet, and how about those disappearing polar bears?
This only shows that snake oil still sells to the gullible.
It seems that the entire conservative blogoshpere is suffering an epidemic of Gellman Amnesia.
Paragraph 188 of Laudato Si: There are certain environmental issues where it is not easy to achieve a broad consensus. Here I would state once more that the Church does not presume to settle scientific questions or to replace politics. But I am concerned to encourage an honest and open debate so that particular interests or ideologies will not prejudice the common good.
You all know that the MSM lies. Why are you so gullible as to believe these lies. For a thorough and eloquent article on the MSM treatment of this Pope, go here: http://johncwright.livejournal.com/973276.html
Unless, of course, you prefer the taste of “snake oil.”
@Terentia: It’s a minor thing but it’s not Gellman but Gell-Mann.
More to the point, the Laudato Si is one huge “the sky is falling and it’s YOUR fault” document. Yes, YOU!!
The pope is not misinformed so much as he is a pessimist….at best. (I won’t even mention the alternatives). Primarily, he has no faith in humanity. He has no answers to the problems other than to imply that the entire world’s population should go back to living like it’s 1192 (A.D.)…. only with bathing….. with natural biodegradable soap of course ….. and clean burning, smokeless dung for cooking….. and bartering only.
You quote one paragraph and claim that this somehow changes everything he has said in the document. Not a bit.
I repeat. This pope has no faith in mankinds ability to solve it’s problems and doesn’t believe that GOD will intervene either. He sounds so caring and reasonable but he’s a false prophet.
